On the morning of March 15th 2023, Box 0942 was transmitted on a single source phone alarm for a fire on the 18th floor of the infamous Sherry-Netherland Hotel at 781 5th Ave. Shortly after arrival of the 8th Battalion companies, a 10-77 was transmitted for a fire in the 18th floor penthouse. Companies had a difficult time locating the seat of the fire, and faced additional challenges such as members stuck in an elevator, and running out of air on the fire floor. Division 3 ordered the 2nd Alarm be transmitted and the fire was knocked down in little over an hour of the initial box.
The fire is being investigated as suspicious due to law enforcement activity in the apartment when the fire broke out. For more information visit: abc7ny.com/sherry-netherland-...

As a german i'm highly impressed that literally no one is making room for the FF trucks and even crossing the street infront of them or trying to sneak through a gap between... In germany, if you hear a siren, nearly all cars stop and try to get to the very left or right of the road and wait until the rescue vehicles arrive or until it is clear that they aren't coming your way. Americans are like "its a free country, i can go wherever i want whenever i want no matter what and i've been here first Mr firefighter so back off your truck and get out of my way" 🤣🤣🤣

@@dangelokeenlance3749 not closing the roads puts emergency personnel in danger, there's a risk that personnel on the fire ground could be struck by a vehicle.

@@dangelokeenlance3749 well as a fireman we work much safer when the roads are closed and traffic diverted. Simple really.

@BOC no, what he's saying is if you block the roads, the gridlock will only get worse in the surrounding area. If the gridlock gets worse, you're not going to be able to get any more units to the scene.

Great video, watching from NZ, still amazes me how people don't care and just walk infront of engines etc blocking them

It ain't that we don't care. FDNY has over 200 engines, 143 trucks, dozens of special units & as many as 330 EMS rigs out there. plus thousands of police RMPs, hundreds of private ambulances which take 911 calls too. In other words, this shit happens every day if you get out in NY. We all gotta be somewhere & the boss won't take, "Oh I stopped to watch the pretty firemen" for an excuse. It's just part of the daily congestion in New York County, bka, The Borough of Manhattan. We love our FDNY & they know it. Being ignored in NY is being accepted. We letchou know if we do groove on you. Thanks for playin', Kiwi.

Great video and scenery shots especially of the FDNY apparatus and them arriving on the scene, also i noticed, that you don’t hardly see to many tillers arriving or on scene in many of the FDNY video clips anymore, mostly scopes and rear mount Ferrera ladders these days.. just saying..🤔🤔🤔💪🙌🏼🔥🚨🚒

FDNY still has a dozen tillers and word is they are replacing a few older ladders with tillers in the coming year or so.

Funny. In my country in Europe, high rise buildings must have a built in hydrant on every fourth floor. No need for the fire fighters to pump water high and carry heavy hoses upstairs. And cars do move over for emergency vehicles. I don't know why people don't do this, but it looks insanely egocentric.

Welcome to America, where we have a certain way of doing things that works for us. Also, high rises in the US and even some smaller buildings have these things called standpipes, some of which are fed by the building's fire pump and others by fire engines. Firemen attach the hi-rise packs to the standpipes and boom, ya got water. I'm sure the so-called "built-in hydrants" you guys have are just that, standpipes fed by a building's fire pump. Also, its not that people in NYC don't care, its that there is nowhere to go to move out of the way except to continue to drive or stop and create congestion. The vast majority of New Yorkers (and indeed American's) love the FDNY and NYPD; they are legendary here in the states.

why do American firefighters appear to be so slow with next to no co-ordination ? They don't ever seem to be in a rush.

Strolling about like they are window-shopping or walking their dogs on a sunny afternoon. But yeah with enough manpower that also seems to be effective because the house didn't burn down or was just designed well to resist fire.

the work might not look like it from afar but actually doing it requires a decent amount of precision so its better to go at a more steady pace.

We observe our surroundings and never run into anything. We take our time to do proper scene size ups. Also FF arive on scene to go to the command center to get orders to go in a necessary assignment. Remember injured firefighters help no one.
