Hi everyone! Here is another installment of Trans Voice Technology! In this video we will discuss a solution for the cough. While there are many paths and strategies to feminize a cough, here is perhaps the simplest.
The human ear has a tendency to hear the "attack" of a sound as more important than the other parts of the "envelope". By manipulating the attack of our coughs, we can reprogram the way people hear our cough. Regardless of how masculine the actual coughing sound, if it is started by a feminine attack, the cough will be heard feminine.
Executing this is quite simple. First, start with a high pitched and bright "ehh" sound. Work on creating the sound easily and consistently. Make the sound, then gently cough after it. After being able to perform the two in sequence, work on reducing the space between them until it is heard as one individual sound. If done properly, the feminine attack will "wash out" the masculine cough.
I hope this short little tip helps everyone! I'll be releasing another major video soon! :D
warmly,
Amelia Zheanna H.

Not gonna lie this is already making a HUGE difference for me. I don't exactly identify as trans, I'm predominantly a straight guy but I've had a feminine side I've desperately wanted to personify for years and never had the confidence to do so until now. I think my increased vocal range from drama and voice acting has helped as well but your combination of tutorial based teaching as well as scientific reasoning really help in understanding how all this works and I finally feel I can give Fiona a voice that I feel comfortable using when she decides to come out ^-^ Thank you so so soooooooo much!!

great advice in general for all sounds I think. Great thing to keep in mind for voice training too. the quiet to loud transition from first consonants to vowel sound would be the attack of your syllables, while the vowel to trailing consonant of a syllable you can not try as much. This might keep you from sounding like you're trying too hard (and therefore, making it noticable that you are feminizing your voice on purpose), since the release would have less tension. Will keep this in mind now

It's extremely useful at the thrift store when you're laying out all the clothes you've collected while deciding which ones to get, as too much coughing keeps people from entering the personal area necessary to do that safely, as they seemed to get a little grabby for the clothes you're laying out~ Also if it's summer, use the winter coat rack for the layout area, as people are least likely to be looking for cold items when it's hot.

I had a quick question for you. I have been using a voice pitch analyzer app to try and get a better idea of what my voice "looks" like and it's measured by hertz 120-280. When you raise your larynx height does that translate to higher hertz much? I have found it doesn't raise it much at all for me and I'm wondering if maybe I'm not raising my larynx high enough, or its simply pitch that I lack
@TransVoiceLessons
@TransVoiceLessons 4 жыл бұрын
No. Raising the larynx and/or other techniques to raise your vocal tract resonances should not cause an increase in pitch. Most untrained or amateur voices have trouble separating the two variables though because of some fancy acoustic laws lol. However, we are trying to gain independent control of pitch vs resonance. Pitch analyzers will only show the fundamental frequency of your voice. You can use this to your advantage though. Sing a single note so that the pitch tracker doesn't move, then try to brighten the voice without moving the pitch. If the voice changes but the pitch doesn't on the application, you know you are tweaking resonance.
@unclecuddles5232
@unclecuddles5232 4 жыл бұрын
@@TransVoiceLessons Well that's a relief but also poses a new problem for me. I'm ungodly monotone. I have been my entire life. My pitch is almost non-existent and barely more than vocal fry, and as such adding pitch feels incredibly foreign and it's hard to tell if it's at all "believable" or what is "normal". Any insight there or had students with the same problem?
@veronicagorosito187
@veronicagorosito187 4 жыл бұрын
Female voice is not in the pitch. It's about timber. The formant is more important than resonance, indeed. Raising pitch will cause cord damage. Work on the formants instead. PS: a high pitched male voice is just that. It still sounds male. Formants are the key.
@TransVoiceLessons
@TransVoiceLessons 4 жыл бұрын
Gitana Maldita while the overwhelming majority of feminization is achieved through the modification of R1 and R2, raising pitch will not damage the vocal folds unless the speaker uses too much lateral pressure/closure which increases friction and wear on the folds. Your vocal folds can function healthy at any pitch aside from the top and bottom 10% areas (roughly). This can also be altered carefully but is not necessary. Formants are good but gender is realized through non harmonic sounds as well (voiceless consonants for instance) so we should try to recognize and practice R values not F values since formant describes the harmonic-resonance relationship and R is purely about resonance frequency of the container.
@veronicagorosito187

@@TransVoiceLessons hi! Are you from UK? I find difficult to understand due to me being spanish speaker. I get USA english much easily 😖 I have a low pitched voice and no one hears male, just female. Only when I tell them, they start to use male pronouns and start to talk about "gender and sexual things". Weird. Well, I think it's a mix of R&F, but it's personal. Every phonatory system is unique. Work on everything and find what suits yours. You're a nerd with this topic! Are you into sound engineering?

Hi there! It works! It may take a few days for my assistant to get back to you. I'm currently searching for another assistant to help us as we are somewhat behind on E-mails! I appreciate your patience ahead of time. :D
