This actually came in as a job, and the lady did not like the quote I gave her to try and fix it (with the added caveat that it might not work even if I do get it going). So she left it with me to throw away, and I thought I would see if we could make this poor cleaner work again...

Love your videos! I feel a stab of pain in my heart whenever I see a Miele vacuum cleaner being used with non-genuine bags since it's almost a death sentence for the vacuum cleaner itself. The one in the video was in an appalling state, heaven knows what it was being used for.

Sam, you know what you are doing and you also inject humour into your work and that makes all the difference . You accent remind me of one of the Monty Python blokes , not sure if it is Graham Chapman or Eric Idle though . Think it is Idle .

I assume that three legged device you soldered back together is the silicone controlled rectifier. Used for the motor speed control, it's worth checking condition of the commutator and brushes as you have done. Any heavy arcing between these components can blow the SCR. I have had this happen on washing machine speed contollers in the past, usually worn brushes or the commutator has gone into meltdown. Excellent videos, +1 subscriber.

That makes sense, as they usually die after the bag splits, the fan fills up with crap and goes mega off balance and the comm takes a sand blasting which it can't like. It's almost handy as it makes picking up cheap dead ones a worthwhile gamble!

I know, poor thing. When I explained what had happened and sent her the pictures she honestly told me she didn't know how that happened... I just kept quiet!

you fixed the mosfet haha good job. obviously that piece is a weak spot, it looks like that middle pin actually blew up. i'd look out for your solder job to melt if you work the machine too hard... but I can't imagine what blew it up in the first place lol

Any idea what’s wrong with mine? I have the same model and when you plug in and press power the light just flashes and you can’t change the power. If you repeatedly press power button it’s like it’s trying to start sometimes you hear a whirr then it stops and just flashes?

Why skip over the troubleshooting part...? I, and others alike, are also having that issue with the lighting up but no power, but cannot deduce what was the cause of that issue without inclusion of the troubleshooting itself. Please elaborate, if you can. Kind regards. EDIT: For anyone having similar issues as described above and shown at 11:38; in my case the Triac was defective (one of its legs was blown out). This is located in, and accessible from, the motor itself. Replacement of that part requires resoldering, the part itself only costs a few bucks. Good luck finding any though, I was fortunate enough to find one last shop that had some in stock (next stock expected january 2023 at mauser and rs).

Hey I've got a C3 and I took the motor out to dust it off and now the vacuum doesn't turn on but only shows a red warning light? I've tried turning it on without the motor and it's the same so it looks like power isn't going into the motor? Everything is clean and what not so I don't know what the problem is, would you be able to help? Thanks

any idea how to remove the bearing inner ring from the motor shaft? one of the bearings has disintegrated so it needs to be removed, but the inner smaller ring is still attached to the shaft. I also would like to replace the second bearing as preventative maintenance (and the fact theyre sold in pairs).

You need a bearing puller to pull the inner ring off the shaft now. Reasonably easy once you have it though! Both bearings are the same size so replacing both is a good idea. The armature should near free spin once the casing is assembled. If it binds up you might need to tap the fancase bearing up or down a tiny bit

Hi there! I'm repurposing my old Miele for a project, and I'm trying to figure out whether I need to ad an overtemp switch. Do you know if the Miele motors have one, and what temperature It's set to?

Hi! Miele motors have it built into a small pcb that sits inside rhe motkr housing (where the wiring loom plugs into, thats the pins off the pcb). No idea what temperature it's set too though, they run very warm even when fit and healthy!

Was the shaft that the aluminum fan goes on/off a left-hand thread?

Yep, so it self tightens if needed when spinning. They can be tight, grip the fan with a thick cloth too I cut my finger again the other day doing it on a Karcher vacuum! A fan makes deep long cuts...

Hello pal. Thanks for the video. Im trying to repair my S8730. There have been no problems at all. But suddenly it wouldn't start. There is no light at all in the controlboard when I plug it in. But I cant find any fuses. I have tested both contacts. What could be wrong?

Oh dear... Assuming the fuse, flex and switch test good for continuity with a multimeter, I've known the pcb inside the motor to crack a solder joint or 2, and needing a reflow, but that's a motor apart job...

@beko1987 i was hoping it was the motor thing. Because that would be easy for me. I tested the contacts for continuity. And that the cable roll actually delivers power. But I get no lights at all in the board 🤔 I guess it should light up when plugged in, pressing the power button.

So what exactly was wrong with it? You soldered up the thermal cut out and rather skipped over the detail.

guy, why in the world would you cut out the trouble shooting part? seems like qite a few of us have the same damn issue with light up and no start!!!!

Because the troubleshooting doesn't always work... Its either a bad coil connection or the pcb needs the solder joints reflowing (I've done other videos on repairing miele motors). Equally I've had times when nothing works, mieles are hateful things to troubleshoot sometimes 🤷

@@beko1987 Hi Bought a s512 cat and dog plus for £25 all in. Motor and body is good but the hinges are not right but can't see why? Must be bust somewhere but design has improved I think. Started stripping down to clean. I've got another one on the way with pipe and poles and in better condition so I'm practicing on the cheaper one that maybe handy for spares. I'm going to use one as a work vac as my shop vac is too noisy for residential jobs and my big festool is too big to use for general cleaning and carrying about. I like to tinker so your videos help. Thanks. Nothing much online regarding bearing replacement so I guess most don't bother? W

Super glue and soda and filed down when dry for main plastic catch lug repair as never found anything that works as well on plastics Total cost was £30 having bought everything off ebay.
