I'd personally very much like to better understand this from the angle of coping with childhood emotional neglect or even more subtle form of emotional disconnect with caregivers.

I agree with Mathias about how some places make therapy inexpensive, just around $20-30 bucks. I work for the Commonwealth of PA and one of the benefits of working for the Commonwealth is having free counseling up to 6 sessions, and then paying $20 afterwards.

Many therapists are people with bad personalities who weird stuff in therapy. My first PhD therapist told me to get a handjob at an Asian massage parlor and my second group PhD CGP therapist was a full blown cult leader within the law and told me to abuse my grandma with dementia. A lot of therapists will just get you to blame your parents to win you over even if it hurts your life or will assert themselves on you saying they are better at stuff than you like better at working out or sports.

As a man, I was raised around porn since age 3-4. Call it childhood abuse, but really we just loved crammed environment and there was porn in the library and on TV. There were porn books around the house, sadly my dad had a porn issue that he didn’t really hide well enough, and the kids somehow seek it out and then conceal it, my mom liked having porn around and didn’t take steps to not have in the house, it seemed she didn’t care about it but she let it be, like she thought it was normal for kids to take an occasional interest in porn, and then I couldn’t imagine life outside of porn and kept watching it for escapism, stress relief and emotional support until I was 40 years old.
