I am a young nurse whose second passion behind taking care of others is travel. I have been seriously considering travel nursing while embracing the van life. So glad I found this video as I was apprehensive about that lifestyle considering I'm a female. This just goes to show it can be done! Ready to continue following my dreams while embarking on new adventures. Safe travels!

She is independent but like her, I too am scared of 'mechanical' things failing. Unlike you Chris, I would not be able to fix whatever. Great video as always, audio was difficult for me to hear comfortably, I'm not sure if it was her tone of voice or the audio. Thank you for sharing this insight to being a newbie on the road. If you’re in Southern California, Trans-Gas Propane (Glendale) is the least expensive to refill tanks. They can help test leaks & gauges as well. Propane is odor-free. A scent is added to protect life. In southern California especially, if anyone sees your dog inside a vehicle alone in hot weather, your windows will definitely get broken by Peta adherents to free the dog and you’ll be cited. Just so you know.... Please make sure that you ensure provisions for A/C for your dog if you’re working 12-hr. shifts. It’s a huge deal in California. Important topic to cover on vlogs...

Growing up, I had a best friend who was a girl. I've known her since we were 2. Started school together and would do our homework together. She became a nurse. She married a classmate from High School who became an engineer for Standard Oil. Since she married, she never had to work. Instead, she travels with her husband. They lived in Alaska while he worked on the pipeline, then moved to Scotland. Then they went to China, Argentina and too many other places to name. They finally retired this year to their home in Diamond Bar which they bought when they married.

Oh Julie.. what a life you have... I am so jelly.. I guess my hubby had that van years ago and used to take his kids all over the country to run cross country.. I have been watching Van living for quite sometime now and I just retired from 35 years of service from VA Medical Center.. You look like an awesome nurse.. I spent the first weekend in St Joe Missouri with a bunch of people for the eclipse with my hadicapped niece.. She had a nice bed in the back of my Town & country but my bed did not work out and the first night that she made a move I thought someone was outside our van.. First night jitters.. Can't wait to follow your adventures.. Tisha- Topeka Ks.

Don't use velcro. It's annoying to clean around, everything will have to have the same locations of velcro. Use a magnetic or steel plate, you can put kit around the edges so nothing gets underneath, it's easy to clean, anything magnetic will stick to it anywhere. It's a little more expensive, but not really, and a HUGE increase in easy and comfort. Stick magnets in or under anything, or use magnetic stuff, you can get plates, foldable magnetic sheets etc, it's still cheap, and you won't need much.

Hi from New Zealand, I am a male registered nurse and have live out of a Van, since 2005. Although, NZ nurses are not as well paid as an American nurse, it's an excellent paid for a single person. NZ high cost of living is the reason I live this way, and I thoroughly enjoyed this gypsy lifestyle. I use to work as a bureau nurse or relief nurse, and I was sent all over the country, covering for nurses on holiday or maternity leave. Living out of a van was cost saving and I got to see my country. Please to know not the only nomadic nurse.

Pretty cool interview. I feel her fears about messing up a system in the van, as I've had the same thoughts about not wanting to break my new to me home. She's doing it the way I want to when I graduate, only I'll be a traveling lab tech instead of nurse. Would've liked to have heard more about her career, pros and cons of it, how she makes it all work. Not spending much time on that topic seems like an opportunity lost, especially when the thing holding so many people back from traveling full time is giving up their career or figuring out how they'll make $.

Great interview, Chris. You let her talk. You didn't make it all about yourself, like so many other people do. She seemed to be very happy with her life choices. I met a traveling nurse about 30 years ago in Juneau. She lived in a travel trailer, which was very expensive to put on the ferry. A Roadtrek makes more sense if you want to explore Alaska. I think I'd trade that dog in for a chihuahua, though. (Just kidding! That's a HUGE doggy.)
