Sunrise Express Izumo & Seto (寝台特急サンライズ出雲瀬戸号) is Japan's only overnight sleeper train which runs everyday. This time, I traveled from Takamatsu Station to Tokyo Station (高松→東京) on a private room with a bunk bed called “Single Twin” (B寝台個室シングルツイン). It's a 800km (500 miles) trip that takes about 10 hours.
The train was delayed that day so I could take the bullet train (Shinkansen 新幹線) as well as the sleeper train at no extra charge.
It's expensive to stay at Single Twin alone, so I recommend you try it with your friend or partner. You can reserve a room of your choice and buy a ticket at the ticket office of any JR station.
☆★☆This is what it was actually like!☆★☆
--Sunrise Seto, Private Room with a Bunk Bed--
* Transforming from bed to seat was cool.
* The Single Twin room is vertically long, so my head didn't reach the ceiling even when I stood up.
* I was worried whether the upper bed would break.
* It was a pity that there was only one electrical outlet.
* While the train was stopped at the station, some people looked into my room from the platform.
* There is a guy washing his underwear in the washbasin.
* Thanks to the train delay, I was lucky to be able to ride the bullet train at no additional charge.
A challenge to visit every country in the world... "Japan" is the "1st" country that I visited out of all the 196 counties in the world.
☆How to get to this place☆
* Takamatsu Station: About 40 minutes by limousine bus from Takamatsu Airport 🚌

* Tokyo Station: About 40 minutes by limousine bus or monorail, JR and Keikyu Line from Haneda Airport ✈️

My train was delayed and they offered me free replacement transportation so I could take the Shinkansen (bullet train) as well as the sleeper train. ☺ In cases where a limited express train or Shinkansen operated by JR is delayed for more than 2 hours, they can refund the express fare to passengers without any fees, but unfortunately this time my train was not delayed that much.

Japan seems to have fantastic customer service, at least regarding traveling by train. In Germany delayed trains are very (!) common and you rarely are eligible for compensation. Most times you have to suck it up.

So cool, I never knew Japanese trains do run late, could you share if you know how it was delayed? Due to weather or track faults or just the coupling took 30 mins longer than expected?

Got to love Japan. I love how they have smoking and no smoking rooms in most hotels and trains. It's so futuristic. Lesser, 3rd world countries just tend to ban smoking everywhere. Also, I think the prices are very reasonable for what you get. £160 is a great deal for an overnight stay and transportation. In the UK a train for similar distance would cost more, and be of a lower standard. I alse love the way that you can pause the shower without forfeiting your remaining time. You can ewy yourself, stop the shower, lather up, and then rinse with the remaining time. So smart.
