Really nice video! I live in the third world, is hard for me to get the books, but a friend lend me this same version, and this tipe of videos makes it easier. Your voice is definitely an asset.

@@robinfitton8078 Greetings from Argentina then! Is really hard to get and be able to afford things from outside, the Dollar-Peso exchange is awful, and for RPG books and such we don't have local publishers (for most of mainstream literature we do have), so once again, thanks for sharing your process. Yesterday i made the rolls for the initial subsector.

Love the video. You are spot on that it is vanishingly unlikely that dice were used in the subsector system placement in the Traveller Universe as published.
@rainking42423 жыл бұрын
At the beginning of the chapter, it says you can add a -2 or -1 modifier to your roll if you want a less densely populated subsector or +1 if you want a more populated one. It's possible they used one of those methods for that example.

Very interesting, I want to roll up a subsector as well now. Shame about only haveing one group of pirate's. Maybe that's like a free port of Tortuga, where all the pirates hangout. But they useally spread more far a field... Maybe there is a reason other then the navy that human piracy is not that prevalent?
@RottenMechGaming3 жыл бұрын
Yes I will factor that into the next phase of detail. There could be other reasons like piracy is supported by the Navy out here and perhaps legitimised so much that they don’t register on the map.

If you had a red die and two white dice, you could roll if the system has a planet (red die), AND the star base level (2 white dice) at the same time. I think that 50% chance of a planet is too high. Maybe roll 2d6 and on a 6 or less there is a planet? (41.7% chance of a planet.) Or say that there is a 40% chance of a planet being in the hex, and roll 1d10 and 2d6 at the same time. I would also say that I am allowed to lower 3 star base levels (in out of the corner areas with little trade), and could increase the star base level of one world (in a thick section where there should be a lot of trade). That would in one go, make the map more logical. Don't try to make it TOO logical. Little weird areas are great for getting creative juices flowing. ("Why doesn't this planet have a better space port? Maybe it is on a moon with 20 km thick ice over the ocean and the base is underwater. No one likes the 3 hour trip thru the ice and mining is a pain so they have grown slower.") Pirates could also be a planet with no central government. Two countries fighting, and if you are trading with country 'A', then country 'B' feels that you are fair game, and vice versa. Or perhaps, the pirates have become the government, and there are super high transit fees enforced by war ships. Warm regards, Rick.

An alternate way to do a sector is in Star Without Number. You just need 2d6, a d8, and a d10. Roll 2d6 add 20 to the number and roll the dice to see what goes where.
@RottenMechGaming3 жыл бұрын
I was going to give that a try soon. I have a copy and wanted to give it a try.

@@RottenMechGaming Another thing to get your mitts on is a copy of the 1977 Traveller Rules. They lay out a dice chart on how to do Trade or Express boat routes.
@RottenMechGaming3 жыл бұрын
@@Typhonis007 Thanks I think I have the 77 World building book because it has a method to dice for jump routes. What book would have the Trade and Express Boat routes? That would be a really nice extra layer for the map.
@Typhonis0073 жыл бұрын
@@RottenMechGaming The world-building book is the one with making trade routes but I think common sense is also needed. Depending on tech level you want the Class A starports to connect by the shortest route. With the number of connections being the highest jump, a ship can attain. Remember A and B starports are the big ones. The rest isn't as important unless they are along a jump line.

I looked up omnigraffle and I didn't see a PC version. What would you recommend for creating a sector on a pc?
@RottenMechGaming3 жыл бұрын
Affinity Designer. Its both Mac and PC. They have started to capture the old Adobe crowd with their products and Affinity has shapes, so you can built hex's. I am looking at shifting my content into it rather than Omnigraffle. Just need to find the time. Also there is one very good deck-builder Traveller fan on the facebook group and he uses it AD for deck designs, so it has some support in the community.
@Number013 жыл бұрын
@@RottenMechGaming Thank you! I'll check it out. Hopefully, you'll do a video about AD when you have time. Deck Design would be interesting. I'd love to hand out cards (digitally) for items, weapons etc. Or print them out for adventure planning.
