Season 10 continues as Aslan and I travel the few remaining miles along the Coventry Canal, and arrive at Coventry Basin - a surprisingly characterful and welcoming place to spend a few days.
Whilst here I take a look around part of the city of Coventry and especially it's older and more historic 'quarter', which I findd to be delightfully unexpected and a highlight of my stay.
Later I arrive back at Hawkesbury Junction and enjoy a pint in the equally historic Greyhound Pub . . .

There are two things in particular that I enjoy about your videos. Firstly, you seem to be travelling as a way to enjoy your life, rather than the primary reason being to make yourself wealthy through views. It is so refreshing not to be constantly hounded for like, subscribe, Patreon etc as so many other you tubers do. Secondly, we return because your videography is absolutely excellent, with commentary that would shame many a professional. Long may you continue to fascinate your viewers with your take on a unique style of British life.

I do love watching your vlogs as the lifestyle is so different to anything I have ever experienced. Years ago all the neighbours in my cul-de-sac joined forces and hired some narrow boats but my dear late husband refused to go, saying he didn’t have time. Now I don’t travel around that much so I really do get such a kick out of your travels. Thank you for sharing. ☺️

Hi Kevin I was looking out for the 100 houses before you got to them, it's the one thing that hasn't changed along there. Yes sadly Coventry was badly bombed on November the 14th/15th 1940 and lost a lot of the medieval part of the city, the cathedral spire become the badge of the Godiva water pumps used by the fire service during and after the war. Great to see that area again after nearly 30 years

Kevin, there’s something so satisfying, almost healing to the soul, about following along with your journeys. Even a wander into the pub for a few seconds, history that has nearly been lost, gets reborn. Thank you once again for including us, I hope that your passion and love for the canals is something we get to share with you for years to come. You are a bright spot in this world.

Hello Kevin, I really like your presentation and the 'Oxford' brings back a lot of happy memories of my narrow boating exploits in the eighties. I knew the Oxford a few years before the coming of the M40 and in Oxford Jericho was a thriving narrow boat hire fleet, narrow boat and Thames cruiser building area and once out of town it was very rural in those days and I loved it, perhaps like you do. I lived on my 3LW Gardner engined traditional narrow boat Galton on the Staffs and Worcs at The Hyde near Kinver in the nineties and it was an idyllic place and area then. Most of my cruising then was on the S&W, T&M and of course the lovely Shroppie, where I eventually lived for nine great yeas near Bridgnorth where we converted a fifteenth century water powered corn mill and cruck framed millers cottage, after we came ashore. Safe and happy future cruising.

I'm glad Coventry Basin turned out to be a pleasant stopover. Thank you for taking us along to see a bit of the city, and to the pub at Hawkesbury Junction. A perfect Saturday afternoon diversion. Aconite, what an odd and (slightly ominous) name for a boat! One of the things I love about watching canal vlogs, spotting the names of passing/moored boats. Gordon Bennett!

One of the sacred places on earth for me is Coventry Cathedral. It honors the memory of those who died. Just knowing that the structure could somehow survive the bombing took my breath away, as did the lovely "new" cathedral and its St. Michael sculpture. I hope to be blessed with extended visit again someday. Thank you, Kevin, for sharing this. -Nebraska Tom

The bit showing the photo of Winston reminds me that he came to MY Peterborough (Ontario, Canada) in his "wilderness years" after WWI. A restaurant that he occasionally dined at had a copy of the famous Karsh portrait for many years on display, a later gift from the man himself.

The English countryside always looks lovely and just right, whatever the weather or season. The old English buildings and roads in the cities are warm and welcoming even in the rain. But the new buildings jar the senses; they seem to have been designed with no regard to the reality of the UK weather. Gayly painted blocks may be suitable for Southern Europe but in the UK, they just seem to emphasis how not sunny the place it most of the time. It appears the new builds are being made deliberately ugly and brutal, for some reason. For sure cost comes into it, but a little more sympathetic and artistic thought, I would think, make the new building looks more in place than they do now. And your videos are great at showing all the aspect of the country. Thank you.

Hi ya Kevin. I'm so pleased you enjoyed your visit to Coventry the basin in there is really tidy, you managed to get the best bits to see around the city but I'm informed there are more😮 but I'm always disappointed with all the new student accommodation being built. Some lovely old parts still survive, you didn't go into the old cathedral then its lovely in there all open to the sky. Next time eh. Hawkesbury junction pub must stop off there on a trip out on my kayak from Brinklow one fine day. I'm so happy I bumped into you on the big hill locals call the tump I see next time your video is out you show the views from the top I do hope the view was as good as I said it would be. I'm still star struck from meeting you, i haven't stopped talking about it, you however were very pleasant and obviously a gentleman. I'm sure you're glad you met Kev the Brinklow kayaker, I bet. 😅😅😅😅😅 Wish we could have chatted more. I could have shown you the old arches in Brinklow by rose narrow boats, no one passing by can see the arches when passing on the oxford canal by boat chugging over its a shame its all hidden but 2 arches visible these days. I cannot wait to see the next video for my home village you visited Brinklow is lovely. Pity deli was shut.. remember you cycling in lol. I'm sad I didn't bump into you while I was kayaking I may have caught it on video from a kayakers level. I met the foxes afloat while paddling , great people. Hoping to meet Elliott and Sue from Narrow Escape on narrowboat josh out this way hopefully soon. All the very best fellow Kevin I will go have a few pints of guiness my favourite beer must be a Kevin thing lol 😅😅😅 All the best from Kev, the Brinklow kayaker. Find me on KZfaq some old video of me kayaking. New stuff will come soon...😊😊😊 😊😊😊😊😊

much enjoyed your trip through Coventry, Kevin -- the WW2 history I've read about the city was the old story about W. Churchill, having advance knowledge of the bombing of Coventry deciding not to warn Coventry of the impending raid, as doing so would have revealed the British breaking of german codes -- liked certain areas of Coventry giving the "gritty city" impression I always enjoy -- the Oxford canal looks promising...
