Күн бұрын

After the last Off Road Test Run on 2S LiPo and 2x2S LiPo in Parallel I got curious and wanted to test and record the Traxxas E-Revo VXL/Velineon 1/16 with a 2S and a 2x2S LiPo in Parallel on tarmac/on road too ... and watch the differences.
Thank you for watching!

I guess the result was as expected so this is also a demonstration of which battery set-up not to use on tarmac unless one has a wheelie bar or/and a lot of wide open spaces (and do not care if gears/motor/esc gets damaged) ... and I guess, it is also a demonstration of how it should not be driven/controlled. I gotta get used to the fact that this little thing really wants to flip and roll over as much as it can.
WARNING! DISCLAIMER: Traxxas do not recommend running your E-Revo VXL 1/16 with more than 2S LiPo and normal/stock gearing. This could damage internal gears, motor and ESC. Refer to your manual for safe driving set-ups.
You can watch the NiMH, 2S LiPo and 2x2S LiPo in Parallel battery test run on a ball field with the Traxxas E-Revo VXL Brushless 1/16 here:

Hope you enjoyed today's video and demonstration!

I think you are still running on a 2s battery but just higher mah battery. Based on your connector. It is a parralel connector. Use a series connector to become a 4s.

Yeah exactely. Everything was explained a few days after the upload and the title was changed etc. 😉

Explains why mine was never twice as fast. I used to own one 10 years ago. Now the batteries are dead tho, car is fjne.
@johnheden

OK, so you used a parallell connector, meaning you keep the original voltage (2S), but double the capacity (mAh) for longer run times. This will usually also lead to slight improvement in acceleration because higher current can be delivered. If you had used a series conector, you would experience a car nearly impossible to control due to the extremely high voltage (4S).
@NordicRC
@NordicRC 5 жыл бұрын
Yeah, exactly! couldn't have said it better. At the time of this video I was absolutely new to all this "series" and "parallel", and at that time I believed (because of the increased speed) that the voltage must have changed :-) But I was soon corrected here just after the upload so I got the chance to learn more :-) Thanks for the fine comment and explanation, John.

Hi Guys! With the help of a couple of kind and keen observer-friends I have corrected the title and description! (Thank You!) This video and the last video, as most of you know by now, is not a demonstration of 2S vs 4S but instead a demonstration of a single 2S LiPo battery vs 2 x 2S LiPo battery in parallel. I'm a newbie at this "LiPo" so I believed what I was told when I bought the batteries - especially when I tested the two battery set ups against each other and found a huge difference in performance/acceleration. In my head, that could only be explained by a huge difference in volts so I didn't question my information. But apparently 2S is not just 2S and other factors than volt can be involved. I'll leave the explanation to better folks, untill I'm sure I actually understand it correctly myself :-) I'm very sorry if I have misled anyone in the last couple of days. Luckily I had help and the mistake is now corrected. Consider this as a disclaimer ... I still can't get to an understanding of why a single 2S and 2x2S feels so different ... I think the footage speaks for itself. Would love to hear an explanation if you have one :-)

Nordic RC Visions could it be that 2 batteries in parrallel increases the C rating and can supply more current even at the same voltage? Hence more power?
@Harkeness_RC
@Harkeness_RC 6 жыл бұрын
Yeah I agree! 2s is Enough for this, 4s you got hardly any control. Might also be that the car is too light too. Great video👍look forward in seeing your next test run. Awesome stuff😃
@NordicRC
@NordicRC 6 жыл бұрын
Harkeness O7 Thanks! I actually made a mistake on this one. It's only running 2S both times. Found out that if it actually was 4S it would probably be dead by now :-) But second time it's a parallel 2x2S. What a difference still! Can't get my head around why it would make such a difference though :-) well, I make mistakes and live and learn while doing it :-) Thanks for watching, my friend.

He he, quite uncontrollable, at least with standard shock set up and no wheelie bar etc. But still alot bigger (more like 1/14) than the 1/18 WLToys that go just as fast :-)

Great video! Always thought those are only up to 3S. 4S is from another world. You need a wheelie bar with a lenght of 50cm for a "normal" run on 4S. Would be interesting how fast it goes on 4S :)
@NordicRC
@NordicRC 6 жыл бұрын
Thanks, mate! I believe you're right! Changed the title and the description box and added a comment. Good thing I have friends here like you that can help me get down to earth and correct my misleading mistakes ;-) It's actually running 2S both times ... I think, lol. Was told that the connector should set the batteries in series, and since the change when running it was huge, I didn't think twice. Well, anything else than a single NiMH 6S/7S or a LiPo 2S is brand new to me. In my head a single 2S and a 2x2S in parallel should produce the same speed and acceleration, but apparently not :-)

shenlonco Thanks, Steve. Sigbarth RC has just told me that the connector I'm using is a parallel. So it should be 2S with both batteries. Why is it running A LOT faster then? I'm very confused. Hope I can use your experience :-)
@ShenRC
@ShenRC 6 жыл бұрын
Hi I I had a connector like that with mine when I used 4S it does appear to be parallel may have picked the wrong plug up? but there is a 100% sure way to test this and see because It's hard for me to see it the connector the video. Get both charged packs hook them up to your Y harness and get a volt meter and test the + & - on the end that connect to the esc if you get way higher than 8.4v then it's the correct plug and if not then it's running parallel but you will still get a bit more speed because the batteries together act like one big one letting more amps flow through them... but 4s voltage will be insane...let me know what your voltage reads.
@NordicRC
@NordicRC 6 жыл бұрын
shenlonco Thanks! Good idea. Will do that when I get to mine. It would be strange if it is running 2S with the two batteries. It feels so different. Not just 'a bit' more. In the vid I can't even give full throttle without flipping it over on the roof. I can easily do that with one battery even though it sometimes produces a wheelie.

Because the slipper clutch if it’s all the way right it grips the gear more but If u loosen it the spur gear will not be as tight on the pads behind the spur gear so it pins a tiny bit when eve I hit the throttle and it is harder to do wheelies

Basildon Trail Blazing Buddies Yeah, even on 2S it could need a wheelie bar (and a different shock set up). Hope you're having fun with yours still, even though you got the passion for the big, beautiful slow trail trucks right now. Love your build videos. Wish I had more time in between family and work to watch them. Thanks for watching, my friend.
@BasBoyRC
@BasBoyRC 6 жыл бұрын
Yes not a good year for bashing as the grass areas have never been right. They do not get cut very often and with the rain we have had the grass is a constant mess on top so would just trash a car as grass can get so badly wrapped round drive shafts. So the trucks are more suitable to play with and have been going more towards trailing. But you was right disappointed not to get to build the gearboxes on the Cross kits.

Ha ha ha, this is an excellent example of why I am too nervous to run lipos, and still run nimhs and brushed. I have 2 brushless combos I can use, but until I venture into the world of lipos, they will stay in thier boxes. It maybe my 2018 new years resolution to bite the bullet and go lipo : ))
@NordicRC
@NordicRC 6 жыл бұрын
Hi Derek! We are much the same :-) Had a really hard time switching to LiPo, and I haven't made the switch completely. I still run a lot of NiMH and brushed. One can use both. You should try 2S LiPo - it's like a NiMH that has been fully charged one minute ago (a fully charged NiMH 6S actually has a voltage above 8.4 but drops very quickly) and stays like that for nearly the whole run :-) And it doesn't feel like too much in a 1/10 model like it does in a 1/16 like this. The only downside, for me personally, is the fact that one has to put them in storage mode in between runs. So for the impulsive runs (where I have no time to charge) I just use my NiMH that I store charged.

HauntedByApplesauce Buy a tougher truck. For the money something like the 1/10 slash is more of a longer lasting drivetrain set up. In my experience the mini has tooo much horsies under the hood. Breaks to easily. Anyway I just spent the same amount of money on a new 3s blx Arrma Granite and what a Rock solid Beast. For the money it's better to find something that's tougher than the mini or a brushed version I'd highly recommend Unless you have experience with high power RC cars. Hope you decide good. I know this is a old reply. I'm curios did you go with a revo and how did that fair for you. 👊😎

Sorry for the late reply, but sometimes youtube/google’s notifications don’t show all comments, sadly. But again, thanks for the tip. Wheelies can indeed be fun. A wheelie bar for this one when it’s running on asphalt could be kinda cool, so it wouldn’t flip all the way and land upside down.

@NordicRC 5 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I know :-) Corrected the title and everything. Still much more punch and a little extra top speed with the extra amps in parallel. But of course no where near a 4S. I also learned that the electronics are rated to max. 12S NiMH or 3S LiPo. Though I have seen a few short speed run videos with it on 4S. It's insane on 4S. I'll stick to the 2S LiPo :-)

The spur gear the pads behind it are gripping it harder so it catches more when u hit the throttle so if u loosen it half a turn it will be harder to do a wheelie b cause t spins the gear a little bit more and it don’t grip as quick and hard but u can still get max speed on it
