This mci 9 seated coach was in storage waiting to be sold. Just days before the sale of the bus a giant tree limb fell from the sky and stabbed a hole right through the bus skin. It took out the parcel rack overhead storage shelves. Poor Lance has had a run of bad luck lately.

Hi Scott, i feel so bad for Lance he's lucky to have a friend such as yourself. I've had Covid 2 times, it's nothing like the flu believe me, hopefully things will work out for Mr Lance, Scott stay warm and dry get well.

The best part of this event is that nobody was inside the bus. But it's really great that the buyer wants to continue with the purchase as the damage is "only a flesh wound" - that really says something about the general condition of it.

I am sad to hear that you are/were fighting Covid. I have had it twice and to say it is beyond horrible is an understatement. I am very happy to learn that you are fighting it well and are even in good spirits throughout it. This is a "Hey Lance" moment that I NEVER saw coming! I feel sad for him too.

The roof skin repair is very easy. The way I would repair the hole in the roof skin would be 5 easy steps. The first step is to enlarge and square off the opening. The second is to take a pneumatic flanging tool which looks very similar to a nibbler and create a recessed flange around the squared off opening. Step 3 is to form a curved patch panel using the same thickness aluminum as the skin, it could be curved using a slip roller or by hand on an the area of the roof adjacent to the damage or whatever method the person prefers to use. Step 4 is to bond the patch to the roof using 3m panel bond or Lord Fusor, both products are very good. And the 5th step is to finish the repair by skim coating the repair area with the filler of your choice, followed by block sanding, priming and painting. Welding is not a good idea due to multiple reasons. Properly bonding a patch is stronger than rivets or welding.

@ChrisHarding-lk3jj 2 ай бұрын
@@thisbusandus1452The actual metal repair would only be a few hours of actual work. To clean up opening and flange opening would take around an hour. Fabricating a patch panel and getting it bonded in would probably be another hour and with lord fusor 110b adhesive it would require a 2 hour cure time. Filling, sanding, priming and painting could be completed in two hours. The exterior roof skin could be completely repaired in 6 hours time. The interior repair is hard to estimate with what is shown in the video.

@@DellAnderson If you used rivets you would have a noticeable repair and just adhesive alone is more than strong enough. Rivets would also create wavy areas in the roof skin.

My heart sank when I saw the damage. If there is any upside to this it is that it was not one of his Custom Coach conversions. They would be much harder to fix correctly, especially if it happened inside the front house air conditioner evaporator compartment for example.

I saw a shed that the owner said that a limb had fallen on that I proved that it couldn't have fallen from the tree that he said it came from. First, it was the wrong species. Second, we couldn't find a fresh broken place on that tree. Third, the limb went horizontally through the wall between 2 shelves without hitting either of them. With a little bit of looking around, we found the tree that it looked like the limb with a fresh break about 75 feet away. Beyond that point there was a lot of trees with limbs broken out of the tops. Apparently, he had a close call with a tornado that didn't come completely down to the ground.

Man that sucks, but could have been worse. A former employer had one of their buses written off when a 2.5 foot diameter tree branch from a neighbour's tree dropped on it and the chain link fence between the properties, crushed the roof on poor old #26 to the seat frames and blew out every window in the process.

In a storm the only safe place is an underground bunker. I have found pine branches in my yard from trees that are at least a quarter mile away. About 30 years ago, my wife woke me up asking me what the noise was that woke her up. It sounded very much like a couple of freight trains passing each other with a formation of fighter planes for good measure. We were just about to get out of our trailer when I realized that it had already passed us. We had big trees knocked down just a short distance from us but the smaller trees were undamaged. It went directly over our neighbors with no damage to their home and touched down in the next town. It took some roofs off but no casualties.
