The jokes about the DIs wanting guys to drown were on point. They wanted a few guys in my platoon to get dropped so bad, trying to get in their heads every second of swim qualification. It was hilarious 😂 they kicked me out of the pool and I didn’t even touch anything. Hard to fool those instructors, they’ll kick you out if they don’t like the way you look 😆

Don't worry about swim Qual. It's not like regular swimming, they'll show you what to do and how to do it..just do it exactly as they show you..and keep a distance from others in the pool, because if someone loses their shit and grabs you and you both sink ..you still fail even tho another pulled you down.

If you're a good swimmer you'll have no problems at all. My high school phys ed teacher was an ex marine so I had a huge advantage. He taught his classes during pool week exactly the same way it was during swim qual. Idk what they call it now but I swam WSQ, the best qual you can get and the DI's never fucked with me again.

Funny stuff. I was an 1803 with a CWS1 qual. Serving as a swim instructor in 2009 at MCRD San Diego was one of the most enjoyable things I ever got to do.

1980. I went to swim call at Paris Island. 150 lbs 30" waist. Negative buoyant, floating on my back, my nose barley poked through the stairs water. Boots and rallies on I still passed.

Idk what they call it now but I swam WSQ level 1, the best qual you can possibly get. There were only like 5 of us at the very end out of 3 companies to get it. After that the DI's never fucked with me once. It was smooth sailing til graduation

TuLeaf they didn’t held me back ...they will give you multiple chances to pass it ....so for us it started on a Monday and the last day to pass it was on a Saturday or Sunday ...so therefore Monday and Tuesday I failed the swim qual and Wednesday morning I passed it ...they’ll make sure you pass it tho 👍🏽

Just make sure you are in good physical shape that's the biggest problem older guys face is that they just can't keep up because some of their bodies have already been through a lot

You will get a nose full of water. Lat one arm across your body and flutter kick until you level out. Frog kick after that and you will begin to ascend to the surface.

Yes they will teach you certain techniques on how to swim in boot camp but I prefer if you learn them now instead of waiting ...it’ll be easier once you get there ....trust me I’ve been through 13-weeks of hell 😂...
