This is film taken of our Tri-ang Hornby Collection layout taken at the London Festival of Railway Modelling at Alexandra Palace in March 2010. All the items on the layout were built in Britain by Tri-ang Hornby in their Margate factory between 1965 and 1971. The layout features contemporary Series 4 track and station buildings from the extensive range produced by Rovex during the period.
Please note that the address of the website has now changed from that shown at the end of the video, it can now be found at: www.thegoodsyard.co.uk/trianghornby/

Nice Collection. Tri-ang still have a following by some of us. Better build quality and maintainability than the current Hornby range. A better product in fact. What current enthusiasts fail to recognise is that old engines need old controllers to perform best. Thanks for sharing. Mon

Loved seeing the stock car with the giraffe ducking its head at the footbridge!! Haven't seen one of those in ages. A truly great collection there too, some of which I once had.

I see that you have the rare to find double curved level crossing. I had a large double track loop over and loop under Super 4 layout (32 Foot circuit) with System 6 branch line between 1972 and 1979 which had a curved level crossing on it. My late father built the layout when I was 10 for my brother and myself and it was great fun. Sold all the track and action accessories in 1979 and built a larger Peco Streamlined layout controlled by Zero 1 DCC until a house move in 1982. I now run an end to end layout as tail chasing can grow tiresome after a few laps.

I loved the video, it brought back memories of my old Triang Hornby railway I built up in the 1960's and early 1970's. Most of my locos were secondhand bought from garage sales and were in very good running condition. I only wished I had kept these and the older wagons etc., they would be worth money now for a collector. The few locos I bought new I found were not as good as the early gear, maybe the tender drive wasn;t that good, I don't know. Thank you for putting the video on You Tube.

The R408 turntable on my layout was first produced by Tri-ang, it lasted through the Tri-ang Hornby period and well into the Hornby era. It was compatible with Standard, Series 3 and Super 4 track. Latterly, following the introduction of System 6 track, it was supplied with converter tracks to allow it to connect to the finer scale rail section.

I have used modern controllers to get good, consistent control of the locomotives. The automatic exchange system at the back uses magnets and reed switches to stop and start the trains.

2:55-3:00... I don't think I've ever heard a little kid fussing in a Brittish accent before. ..All very cool stuff you have here, but it's so clean! Looks almost brandy-new. I always used my own antiqueing techniques for realism. I always wanted my stuff to look slightly rusty, used, broken in, beaten up by regular usage, like real trains do. (Well, here in America they do, anyway.) I had mostly Tyco & Bachman HO guage, with Roco military miniatures, and a few matchbox cars...

Is this based off a specific track plan? Would love to do this

Your DMU problem could be related to the sleeper chairs on the curved track sections. The old DMU's have deep flanges on the wheels and some Hornby curves have higher sleeper chairs than those on the straights. This combination can cause poor running and stalling on these track sections. I have solved this problem in the past by reducing the height of the sleeper chairs with a needle file, you don't need to remove very much plastic to eliminate the problem.

Google "Hammant Morgan", "H&M" or "Clipper". Hammant & Morgan (H&M) were the usual manufacturers of power supplies for Triang-Hornby train sets.

We have a Tri-ang model train set that has to be over 50 years old. It's been stored well, has a power supply but it's set for English power (we're in the States). What might it be worth?
