Great stuff Oscar, brings back a lot of memories! 'Albert Hall' was my third OO loco following the GWR pannier and the 0-4-0 industrial '254' and my first (and last) tender loco for some time. The chuff sound thrilled me but running was always hampered by wheels that picked up dirt like it was going out of fashion. The gloss finish gradually flaked off and the loco was then subject to a 'now regrettable teenage' detail with the addition of wire handrails, vac & steam pipes, screw coupling at front, crew and reduced loco-tender gap. Over four decades later Albert Hall remains with me and is in a 'playworn state'; a loco that I'd like another example of to run in original condition.

Hi, Barney Nice to hear the video brought back great memories and that you still have your original model, I think many of us made improvements to model railway items as teenagers, all great fun at the time which is as it should be, I remember trying weathering locos and rolling stock having read several articles in Railway Modeller in the late 70s. It was definitely entertaining at the time... All the best. Oscar

Hi Oscar, Nice opening sequence, illustrating the need and advantage of motorised points on a layout like yours. GWR is the other end of the country for me and as a youngster never saw any locomotives however the design and livery of GWR models has character and they are a treat to watch. Thanks, Gordon

Love the way this layout exposes the myth that old style Triang track and locomotives cannot provide the functional operational fun that DCC with nickel silver track, electro frog points, stay alives, etc say you need. Mind you that turntable looks like it needs the tires if Hades to turn. Great stuff!

Hello and Good Morning. The Sunday morning coffee and watching Your trains run. Thank You. The development of models in a range of model railways. The range of over fifty years ago that we find to add to a collection we never had but looked at the dream of them running so long ago. My model railways is N gauge with stock the same age. Have we fared any better, he he. Great, GWR running session. Thank you.

Hi Oscar, lovely running session today. I think the Albert Hall was the second loco that I had new out of a box after the pannier tank, or it may have been the GWR 0-4-0 R077, it was one or the other. I had a thing for Great Western back then, even though I lived at the other end of the planet. Nice to see it this morning. I remember the change to the matt finish, I didn't care for it that much. Steam locos, to my mind, were splendidly shiny. All the best Guy

Hi Oscar, wonderful opening sequence there! The Triang Albert Hall is a lovely model isn't it? I was lucky to find a nice boxed one bought from the model railway stall that used to be on Chesterfield's Thursday second hand market. I think that 1966 catalogue must be just about the high point of Triang, such a fabulous variety of items with Model Land buildings, Minic Motorways, the electric locos and catenary, and to top it off the old Dublo models added too! That Dublo canopy really looks the part on the station Oscar, i think it was a super idea to have both Triang and Dublo together on the same layout as they really do complement each other don't they? Well, thanks again for another wonderfully interesting video! Regards, Antony.

Good morning Oscar, that was a brilliant opening sequence, it demonstrates how usable the layout is. The Albert Hall is a nice looking engine and with the chocolate and cream colestr coaches it makes up a nice train. The late 1959s and 1960s of was the time my dad got me interested in railways. I think my first train set was a small blue tank called "Nellie" you've featured her before, I had her because my mums was called Nellie so it brings memories. I see as part of Hornbys nostalgic range? They are reissuing this model, so I think I'm going to get it, I've not been successful in finding an original in a good condition or I've been outbid on ebay. Anyway good running this morning enjoyed every minute. Take care Eddy xx

Hi Oscar , excellent video and as always thoroughly enjoyed the catalogue review . 1966 was a very special year as so much product variation was now becoming available , especially from the ex Hornby Dublo , Minix and Model-Land ranges . The Rovex team really knew the importance in capturing childrens imaginations and excelled in this edition . In many respects Triang were looking at both the present and future with their product range . From the ultra Modern & contemporary stations , overhead catenary system as well as the latest Model-Land releases it all made up to a truly wonderful landscape for so many of us that would continue on to this day . Sadly by the late seventies the colourful optimism would be replaced by a more low key product range , no doubt caused by dwindling budgets and an ever changing toy market.

Evening, great you enjoyed the look through the catalogue. As you say the Rovex team really knew the importance in capturing children's imaginations, It was full of very enticing and exciting items. Today's catalogues with far higher production values are full of very many highly detailed products with numerous variations don't have the same excitement as these older catalogues which were offering far less sophisticated products. All the best. Oscar

For future information, Oscar, the gold 'thing' on the pannier tank fire box is a safety valve casing - a GWR speciality which was coloquially referred to as a 'coffee pot'..

Good morning Oscar, it's Martin from Hull in the East Riding of Yorkshire. Hope you're having a good start to this Sunday morning. Well I've just watched your latest video and as always it was a masterpiece. I never fail to be amazed at the beauty and characteristics of your locomotives and rolling stock. The GWR Hall class locomotive is a classic among railway locomotives. I know they were never named after people but I have always wanted a Hall class locomotive with my name on the name plate, as my surname is HALL. Anyway back to reality, it was interesting to see the difference in the finishes of the two Pannier locomotives, they both look interesting but if I had to choose one of them I feel drawn to the shiny one. But it's still nice to have both of them as it shows one how manufacturing has changed over the years. Well thank you once again Oscar for a great video and as always it's time for my tea and toasted tea cake. ☕ Keep safe and have a good and safe week. 👍🚂🙂

Good morning Martin. Hope you're enjoying the bank holiday weekend just having a cup of tea myself. I'm thinking I'll walk over to the allotment before the rain set in later during the day. It was an odd choice of finish for Hornby the matt plastic, the deep gloss shine definitely looks a little more impressive for a model locomotive. All then best. Oscar

Thanks Oscar, lovely video, nice to see the difference between the Panier tanks, I was interested to hear you mention overhead catenary, I have been going back to watch your videos with the super 4 layout and the steeple cab, AL1 and EM2 locos, I have bought a few unloved EM2s this year nd got them running plus I treated myself to a twin pantograph AL1, which had some of the worst soldering I've seen! but it's hsppy now, it would be great to see some running again on your layout, thanks again.

Hello Oscar. The running in the opening clips was superb, toy trains just as they should be. I've always liked the pannier tanks, very boxy and business like. The real ones were very powerful for such small machines. Your Albert Hall runs great, I am looking forward to getting mine up and running. I thought the chocolate and cream coaches to be in great condition. I can imagine the real restaurant cars being without steps as passengers would not be boarding or alighting through those doors, they would most likely be for servicing the car. Have a great week, David.

I like the gloss finish on the GWR 0-6-0 PT loco, the matt finish looks too dull to me . but each to their own. It is the safty valve bonnet or cover... on the GWR PT loco near the cab. I don't recall ever seeing a matt version of the loco.

Hi Oscar, I really enjoyed the early part of the video. Seeing the points being set for different routes and watching the trains move, is a great way to start a video? I personally prefer the shiny version of the Pannier Tank.. I have never been enthralled by the dull finish on some versions, It would probably be a good base to do weathering on? The "Hall" Class is an interesting loco.. Nice to see it on a couple of different rakes? I find it very interesting to make up trains as they are depicted in the catalogues.. Searching through the collection to find the right wagons or coaches? I often end up with different couplers throughout the train though. As some of the stock that I choose, may be from an earlier Tri-ang era?..... Thanks again for having a fun time with the trains... Rob... Is there a connection at all, possible, between the Hornby Dublo and Tri-ang tracks? It may be interesting to use a converter wagon to move some Tri-ang wagons onto the Hornby circuits? (Only 2 rail Hornby wagons could go the other way of course)? But some cautiously placed uncouplers and isolator tracks, to keep the locos on their "home turf" could probably make it possible to swap wagons on an intermediate and isolated piece of track??? Food for thought? (as if you need more to do)?
@oscarpaisley
@oscarpaisley Ай бұрын
Good evening Robin great you enjoyed the footage of the trains making the way around the railway the various routes. shiny version of that little tank locomotive is the probably the best looking, Hornby seemed spend quite a time making those matt finishes in the mid to late 70s. They must've had a thinking behind it? You're not the first to suggest a possible connection between the two systems. Probably the way the railway is at the moment it would be complicated rerouting rails. I did have it in mind, but at some point it may be possible to have the overhead locomotives run from 2 to 3rail, again, possibly another layout, there is only one practical place to have catenary on the current railway and it's nowhere near the 3 rail. Of course that would bring up an excuse to acquire the hugely expensive Dublo version of the BoBo electric, something I've been trying to avoid... All the best. Oscar
@robinmathews2446
@robinmathews2446 Ай бұрын
Hi again Oscar, I had not even thought of the Overhead Power as a possibility? You have had more experience than I with the OHPS, I'm certain? I never even gave it a thought. (But it would be another different piece of running)? No, I only thought, of a Tri-ang loco pushing wagons onto an isolated piece of 2 rail then joined (after an uncoupler) to 3 rail track, uncoupling, and then having a Dublo loco approach the other end of the isolated bit... It would then couple on to an adapter wagon, while staying on 3 rail track to pull the wagons away? Using an Overhead supply loco to operate over the two types of track, is something that I had never dreamed about? Wonderful idea though?

Once again another nostalgic video,and so good to see when you realise how much depressing information is on tv and the internet including youtube. This is not a criticism, your railways capture the trainser box artwork I used to dream of, I remember how good the bos was compared to an oval of track, a battery controller and the 2 car emu from Christmas 1959. I am w9ndering if you ever had or have a desire to build a sceniced model railway? Regardless, I love your videos, something to look forward to every Sunday evening here in Aus.

Good morning Steven I had to go at scenery on my railway as a child, remember being quite disappointed with it, obviously I didn't have the skills at the time but since getting back into my railways it hasn't been something that I've fancied trying again, and I don't think I have the necessary skills. I do enjoy seeing the terrific layout and attention to detail at the model railway shows. I think I will stick to track on the board and a little bit of it elevated here and there. All the best. Oscar
@Steven_Rowe
@Steven_Rowe 2 ай бұрын
@oscarpaisley whilst yours is not sceniced I like it for the fact it isn't and that it's the classic trainset box layout, also it you the total flexibility to pull it and relay it without damage to track. The model railway hobby is interesting because you can specialise in certain skills. Your skill is the nostalgia skill and the history you supply on each item.. I seem to remember in the early 1960s that Hornby Dublo ran a castle class for some astounding amount of miles, around 300 I think from memory.
