I have an old M7 too, from 1967! Mint, original box, sealed crew bag, and all the paperwork it had, including a "leaflet" . Was part of a "job lot" pack from ebay; and i was surprised when i opened it, do to box was wrapped in some packaging paper, tough the description did mentioned that the lot has a Triang M7 too (with the class 31 + a Hymek with the rest of the rollingstock).

Great video. I used to see these at Farnborough North (Reading-Guildford-Redhill line) in the 1950s.

The M7 looks in very good condition compared to some of the sad examples that I see at exhibitions and swapmeets! It also sound and runs more sweetly than some its more super detailed successors! maybe i am looking through nostalgia-coloured spectacles. Great stuff Oscar , very entertaining.

I was just packing some of my Southern models, and have the original Tri-angHornby M7 in mint condition with a very good box. Simon Kohler told me not to sell it, so I have kept it as it compares very well, as a model, to my two recent M7’s.

What a great video for us B.R. Southern Region steam fans!! I remember when the Hornby M7 was first issued back in 1967, it was a magnificent locomotive then and it has held up very well during the intervening years, it’s an amazing model and it’s almost 60 years old! There is something very special about M7s, they really were maids of all work but there is something extra about them which I just can’t put my finger on… The M7s were superb tank locomotives, they were not just an attractive design but highly capable and were equally at home shunting stock at Waterloo station, handling branch line trains with ease and banking crack expresses such as the Atlantic Coast Express on the extremely steep inclines on the Barnstaple to Ilfracombe line. Thank you Oscar for another excellent video I look forward to your next offering!! 😉

Great Opening shots and another informative Episode thanks - I do like the Truck arrangement under the bunker on these, similar to the Adams Radial, Very reminiscent of “Old World “ Machines - this has motivated me to give my Southern M7 (olive green xo motor) a long awaited Service this Sunday morning - Many thanks Oscar 👍🏻

I don’t always comment on your videos, but rest assured that I watch and thoroughly enjoy each and every one. Over the last few months I’ve been busy putting together a small layout in a spare room and have taken out my stored Tri-ang items, while acquiring a few new pieces, mainly track of which very little has survived over the years. Your channel has been directly responsible for rekindling my passion for the hobby. Thanks for taking the time to make the many videos of all those wonderful vintage items. Cheers from Canada!🇨🇦

Very enjoyable video again Oscar. Sue and I thoroughly enjoyed watching the M7 and 2MT on the elevated section together, and those 70's Hornby Southern coaches look great with the M7. We both thought that it would be interesting to see all three variants of the M7 on the layout at once to highlight the subtle differences between them. This would be interesting to do with some other models too, such as the Tri-ang Hornby Halls, Flying Scotsman, and for Diesel fans the A1A-A1A Brush type 2 which had something like 7 Variations by the time it was retired by Hornby. Then there are numerous Dublo models as well Looking forward to next week's video, best wishes from Gloucester.

Good morning Oscar, it's Martin from Hull in the East Riding of Yorkshire. Just watched your excellent video about your M7 tank locomotive. I have always liked liked tank locomotives especially the M7 class. As always it's a great pleasure to see your different rolling stock running round your wonderful railway. It's quite possible that I may have had an M7 tank locomotive myself, I seem to recall having one in my disdant past. I do remember having a Jinty 0 - 6-0 locomotive in BR black livery. Well it's 08. 20 am, Sunday morning and i am going to make a cup of tea and have a toasted tea cake ( I finally remembered to buy some. Lol) well Oscar, keep safe and have a good week ahead and ill see you next Sunday and thank you once again for a lovely video, oh and my son Ben said to say " hello Oscar " I am looking forward to next week's video already. 👍🚂☕🙂

Great video this morning Oscar, that M7 is a fine looking model, really like the opening smokebox door on that, the dioramas you could do on a layout with a small feature like that, unfortunately it’s a feature we don’t se to often now, it used to be done by bachmann as I have 2 locomotives that have opening smokebox doors, great running session here as well, keep up the great work Oscar.

Hello Oscar. Very busy times here, it took half the day to get a break to watch this week. I have a great liking for the M7 so this was great to see. The Southern Railway green was much darker than the BR Southern Region green it seems. The SR coaches looked great behind the BR loco I must say. Cheers Oscar, take care. David.

Hi Oscar, Nice running session and lovely M7. ‘Putting away’ episodes are a necessary evil but all part of it and the reward is a fresh look at something nice. Good morning Oscar. To say there is ten years of modeling growth between the loco and the coaches, they look very good together. I, too, team up my '67 M7 with my '77 suburbans. It's a very good-looking set.... and all running on Series 3 track. Great video as always. Thank you. Brian

Hi Oscar, Nice running again today.. The 0-4-4 tank pulls well up the gradient.. It's nice to see the two trains on each side of the top station. That return loop works really well.. Nice to watch. My Grandson will be happy to see the R 59 working with green coaches again? His favourite loco, pulling his favourite colour? Thank you for that? The running session at the start of the video, was a great start to the day's proceedings too.. Well worth watching.. It must have taken a lot of editing for that bit of running? Looked very nice though..

Thanks Oscar, I do love the M7, I have a black one and a grren version, for some reason both models have their bodies glued to the chassis, I guess as a quick repair but so much glue! why? thanks again.

Morning Paul, great to hear you have a couple of versions in your collection. The body shell on these are very fragile, especially underneath the smoke box door. I wonder if glue was thought to be the only option as a fix. Thanks again for looking take care. Oscar

Hi there Oscar ,, I really like the M7 locos as I bought 1 from Western Australia around 2 years ago and but had all the fire box glow but had a blown globe so I ended up taking all of it out but have kept in a safe place to use it later if needed. The one i got is a good runner and just needed a good oiling and cleaning and is a ripper. The smoke box door is in tact and does open and close too though like you said its only ever opened once and that will do me. Ive also bought another M7 along with a heap of other locos and that one was a non runner and it was all there but really just extremely dirty as it sat in the guys roof for over 40 years so i pulled it apart cleaned it and it is a good runner too and the firebox glow on that one works a treat. You mentioned the number on the door being slightly crooked well it must be a triang thing as both my M7's have the same crooked numbers on both of the opening firebox doors. I also bought just today a R.59 tank 2-6- 2 loco and its a gr8 little runner too but its not a black one buts its a dark green colour but the front of the boiler is black. It has made in England on it and I got it foe $70 ausd I also got a rake of dark green Triang R.29/221 southern carriages and they havent been touched in 40 years either and has open box axle and sleeved wheels. Are these also compatible with the centre carriages in the dmu units of the same colour as they look quite similar to the other ones that I bought a few years ago but cant remember if they are or not. The only thing i can think of that is different from the other ones is the ones i got today have the mark 2 type couplings on them. I really do enjoy cleaning them to look like brand new but with there playworn features. Thanks again for your informative video's for us to watch and learn from. Cheers from John in Australia.

Afternoon John, they sound like great models. It's always good when these things come back to life with a bit of a clean and very rewarding. The 2-6-2 tanks are lovely models I had a black one with mk2 couplings given to me as a child, so I have a soft spot for these now. The green ones came along about 1960 first with solid wheels and double lining before being upgraded to see through wheels with steel tyres / magnadhision and became single lined around this point, the black ones came along in the mid-50s first with acetate bodies. The green coaches you mentioned are R.229 S.R.Main Line Restaurant Car and R.221 S.R. Main Line Composite Coach these were available with both Mk2 and Mk3 couplings and are not quite as dark green as the R.334 centre centre for the DMU and are a slightly different in design and I don't think was ever available with Mk2 couplings becoming available in 1961. I've included a couple of links below with reference to the coaches. Great to hear you enjoyed the video. Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment. It's very much appreciated. That was a very nice running sequence at the beginning, lots of good varied shots. Those old silver seal wheels do run very smoothly but it's a shame that the spacing is so wrong on them. They worked well on your track but don't do very well on Peco code 100 points, I have had to swap loads of them out and now have a tin full of them plus old plastic wheels.
@oscarpaisley
@oscarpaisley 3 ай бұрын
Evening Rob, great to hear you enjoyed the opening sequence. I'm always surprised when the silver seals work so well, the early variant will be metal axles are much nicer running but these later ones with the plastic square section and push on chrome/ Metal tyres can be quite variable, I think chrome/ Metal material used can rot away overtime, I'm not sure whether this is too due to previous storage or just poor material. Thanks again take care. Oscar

Hi Oscar, Lovely looking M7. Really nice condition. s you may have guessed I have several of these in my collection. Not quite in as good a condition as yours. But several of them have a problem. The bakalite/plastic pick up bases have broken up and have to be jury rigged to work I was wondering if you knew anywhere where you can get replacements. Even plastic printed ones will do. Anyway another great Sunday video to watch.

Afternoon Jared, thanks again for looking in. It's great to hear you have M7s in you collection. I've not come across any replacements/ reproductions for these collection plates, it would be nice to have reproductions of these along with those for the Lord of the Isles / Caledonian single which are also very susceptible to damage. All the best. Oscar

Hi John, it's a great little device. I do have one, but haven't had it in a video, there are some pictures of them and the variations at this website.www.tri-ang.co.uk/giraffe.html it was later developed into the sniper car for the battle space range. The original car was produced between 65 and 69 and the sniper car 69 into the early 70s All the best. Oscar
