Last week I made a concrete subfloor leveling in the living room which connected with a long hallway. Customer already installed tile in the hallway and I should install a hardwood and attach it to the tile. Subfloor quality was so low and I had to make it even in two steps. First time I patched the most lower spots. In this video you'll see how I make a final leveling using my lovely trick. You can support my channel buying this tripods. Here is link on my website page - - Floor Screed Tripods - bit.ly/2uVCPfX

this is a GREAT tip! i usually run my straight edge on a 1/4 inch plastic tile edging to raise the tile that little bit to meet hardwood, but this way is cheaper and easier. Thanks for this looking forward to seeing more...btw im subscribing.

Your videos are pretty awesome! So far I've seen most of them as I wrap my head around the engineered wood floor installation I am about to embark on! It'll be a 2nd floor installation on a plywood subfloor that is a little warped and definitely uneven. I am curious to know what is it that you are using as a straight edge? That really long grey piece of metal?

Same technique for brick pavers on a driveway or for concreting you can attach a batten to a wall and notch your screed timber for the same effect. Thanks for sharing, planning and attention to detail make for a better finish. Nice job

quick question....how does the spiked roller help at the end because it seems like youve eliminated any "bunching" of the self leveler with the passing back and forth with the straight bar. Ive attended several TEC meetings where they show how to use SL and basically they say just give it a pass with a concrete smoother or straight edge. How does it help smooth the SL after it seems you have already smoothed it with the straight bar?
@Maxid1
@Maxid1 8 жыл бұрын
+ProfessorKA0S It's only level after he screeds it, it's not smooth. It's got a bunch of ridges in it from the screed,
@allybally1160
@allybally1160 8 жыл бұрын
Your supposed to use a large spiked rake, or just an average plasters float... not recommended for a novice though ... the purpose of the spiked roller is to remove imperfections and high spots in the initial finish and leave a smooth finish, without the spiked roller the finish left would not be good enough to receive floorcoveringslike vinyl etc although good enough to receive carpet and in this case Hardwood although I would always use a spiked roller regardless!! Bear in mind self level screed can only be applied up to a depth of 6mm .. after this an aggregate should be mixed to form a more concrete like texture!
@ProfessorKA0S
@ProfessorKA0S 7 жыл бұрын
Ok thanks for the information on the roller. I have a good deal of experience levelling floors but use a combination of dry pack and/or scratch mixtures. Not so much with self levelors just due to the cost.I think your 6mm maximum is dependent greatly on the self levelor used. I have gone to TEC meetings where they have products that can go far above 1/4 ". I believe many are 1-2" in a single pour.

hello I have a garage I wish to use the leveling compound as a builder told me it is better than using cement. The problem I had was the existing floor was cracking and creaked when I walked on it. So I uplifted most of it up it came up easy as most of it fell apart. it seemed to be made off cement with small stones in it. So do I have to use a primer on a garage concrete floor their are bumps but the concrete looks in good condition . On instructions of leveling compound seems I may not need a primer , can you help?

he was using the straight edge with block clamp, to attain a certain specific height so the two floors would be even after installation of the wood, He was not simply leveling a floor out, it had to be precise. You could have done it without getting on your hands and knees and I could have done it standing on one elbow.. Let's see your video ace.

I don't have a video but if he marked the wall where he needs it to fill to he could of just poured it instead of slopping around .and even the reps from mapei and dap will demonstrate this way so there you go ace

I wouldnt advise mixing your product on your dry primer or using nova plan. Plani patch would have been a better choice for that instance or a screed mortar for thicker aplications. Dont get me wrong, if it works for you, give er! its seems to have worked out. my concern is using a screed with a self leveling product. youre asking water to run up hill.

Hi Bobby, what is "cutback"?
@bobbygordenakaredneckbilly3856
@bobbygordenakaredneckbilly3856 6 жыл бұрын
Cutback is the black tar mastic used before the 1960's and used to install asbestos tiles. Dangerous to remove. I have wet scraped it down to the concrete the best I can. However as many people know, it is never "gone" it permeates the concrete. Grinding and sanding is highly NOT recommended due to the asbestos.

When you pick up that $38 a bag leveler, spend another $6 and get the primer that goes with it. Don't try using motar or portland cements. They WILL crack, then your floor will sound like you left a bag of potatoe chips under it.Ask me how I know this. A nice straight 2x4 works perfect for trowel.

Robert I know how self leveling works, 30 year concrete contractor, I get the screed to achieve a certain height, but for some of us we don't need them.
@sqnhunter
@sqnhunter 5 жыл бұрын
And you thought that self leveling meant that you dont need to screed over? The answer to you question is simple. It may or may not self level, but until man becomes a machine and can calculate exact volume on said uneven floor, then man will always place more product.... then screed to his ideal of perfect finish height of level. Nothing like being perfect chem level and finding your 3 mm higher than you would really like to be. On any job. Nothing like wasting 30 years, eh? !

The wood and clamp creates an offset (wood floor thickness) that will ensure the tiles and wood floor are on the same level after the screed dries.

Self leveling compound isn't intended to be a finished surface. It is only meant as a base for tiles, parquet or ceramic; and hardwood strip-type flooring. A usable hard surface could only be obtained by using a sand/ cement screed, which would be a minimum 50mm thick at the highest point of the concrete.

Name explains it. Just imagine a paint roller with spikes on it. It evens out and gets bubbles out. Epoxy floor people use it a lot. Search epoxy flooring

bubbles really only appear if compound isn't mixed enough. in regards to self leveling only. 2 minutes high speed and you rarely see bubbles
