I have a JD X -320 with 550 hrs. Very happy with the tractor. It has a 22hp Kawasaki I-torque engine. Very happy with the customer service. I was able to troubleshoot it over the phone with my dealer. If you buy a zero turn, yes you save time mowing, but it's just a mower. A good heavy duty tractor like the X series or higher, is more versatile. Weigh your options and buy what fits you the best!

Dustin, I had a John Deere LX188 with the water cooled Kawasaki. Loved that lawnmower tractor but, the rear transaxles wear out. I ran the original approximately 1000hr and it went out. Bought a used transaxle it lasted for approx 500 hours on my unit and it went out. So after 29 years we bought a ZT zero turn. It mows faster and better, things have improved in 29 years. It is harder to mow a long straight line with a ZT turn than a tractor. The other draw back is trying to make a turn down a steep hill with the ZT, the rear wheels can slide and tear up the grass.

Dustin the trick I use is a vise grip on the blade, and hit that bolt on the spindle with a impact socket on an Ingersoll Rand air wrench.

Hey Dustin! A very good idea and so simple. I plan to use the idea on my Snapper 360 42""zero-turn mower.blades. I got a $30 boat winch to lift the front of the mower to get to the blades and now a simple way to hold the blades. I should be able to do the job in a safe manner.

Thank you!!! We have 8 acres to cut and use both a tractor and a John Deere D130. The tractor is more efficient and nice to have around but I think the John Deere cut looks better. Tractor itself and maintenance more expensive. Diesel too. My advice is stick with the D series. But I couldn't figure out how to position the C clamp so....

I just completed the process of determining what type of mower to buy. Ton of research and decided on a Toro zero turn. The strength and thickness of the steel of the frame and fabricated deck along with the three year unlimited hours warranty. Suggest you consider a 60 inch unit which will come with a 24.5 HP commercial engine. You’ll end up with a residential mower with a residential mower price but built to the level of a commercial mower. Good luck, my new mower is still in transit.

I note that it is about 2 years since you posted this so I'm not too sure that my recommendation will still be valid but: I solved my deck removal problem a couple of years ago. At the time Harbor freight had their mower lift on sale and I had a coupon so I gave way less than a hundred bucks for their lift. Today's price is somewhere near $140. don't know about any coupons. I lift the front of my mower on that lift and take a air powered torque wrench to my blade and they just come off with no effort. Same with re=installing. My home compressor is enough to power the cut rate torque wrench I got in a set from Lowes on an after Christmas clearance sale, once again for way below what they usually charge. Good luck with you new digs.

Hi, My mother has a really old riding mower. But it runs well. A neighbor had been maintaining it. I went over this spring to get it out of shed for her. and Noticed the blade is shot. the bolt tightens itself as the blade is spinning. the bolt will always loosen if you turn in the direction where the cutting edge of the blade is being forced into your hand/woodblock/whatever is being used to keep the blade from turning. turn the wrench the same direction that the blade spins.

Used (unless you got a fat wallet) Kubota utility tractor with a deck, 3 pt and bucket. Lower hours the better. 25 hp or so. Place your size you'll want it. Installed these on a riding mower kzfaq.infoUgkxetgfkJxfdT_B2vGYP-uNTLaBbim9OKTD . They were sharp out of the box, although I've never liked blade edges that were coated...not quite as sharp as I personally want. Using my belt sander, I removed the coating from the cutting edges and refined the edge enough to shave with them. So far, after three runs, these blades are holding up as expected. Even after hitting a few fallen 1/2 inch or so branches, the edges are still sharp as heck. No edge dings, no warping, etc. As far as installing them, the cutouts were of the proper size and shape to fit my aging Craftsman mower. Very satisfied.

A zero-turn mower is a likely overkill for any single lawn. I can see nothing they do better than a regular riding mower except they do it quicker. For a business it would eventually pay for itself in time saved. 4 1/5 acres probably will take an hour with a riding mower and 20 minutes with a zero-turn. $1800 vs. $3800 or more.
