Haha - Loving how there are now comments suggesting that an XC Mtb is just a gravel bike with flat bars... after a year or two of seeing the internet full of people saying that Gravel Bikes are just old school XC Mtbs.... It is, in fact, a mountain bike. Looks like a good one. It'll go up hill quick and keep you on your toes on technical stuff, unlike a big bounce enduro bike that'll be slow on the climbs but more capable on the downs. Sounds like you nailed it... and had fun, which is what matters. Every bike is a good time, right?!

I built up a Trifox MTB frame. It’s dope asf. Spared no expense on components, custom built wheels ect. It weighs 20 lbs.

I'm a big advocate for if you're going to have one MTB, let it be an XC bike like this and slap a dropper post on it and a max-width tire up front with loads of grip

To me if it rides on gravel it's a gravel bike. I've had a Specialized hybrid with a 1 in h steer tube, 700c Bontrager Race rims and 37mm tires since 2006. It has rim brakes instead of disc brakes and a flat bar with MTB components. I used discarded parts from a bike store I worked at and it's been an awesome ride. Yep I've riden on gravel!

Try chunkier XC/light trails tires to remove that weird feeling of loosing control in the corners and put a dropper on it ;)

Aye! Shoutout that RoadHoles Four Loko Jersey. One of the best ones I also own. I’ve been looking at that Trifox frame for a min, and I’m glad someone I watch regularly is reviewing one. I may finally put it in my cart 😅

I feel carbon bars generally do help with hand and arm fatigued, especially if you're running a 35mm handlebar diameter. It looks like your setup is an integrated stem/handlebar so probably the best comfort at expense of being able to tweak the bar rotation. I actually don't know why 35mm is becoming the standard. 31.8mm has never felt noodlely and is comfortable with either aluminum or carbon bars.

Looks like they sell a dropper too, I'd love to see that - or something that might be in the spirit of the channel, the Trans-X Jump Seat - fully manual so you can pull it out and slam it into whatever frame you want that weekend in 10 minutes.

So I discovered this by accident and I could be wrong... but Iremoved the twitchiness from the rear end by running a wide low profile XC tyre on the rear and a skinny downhill tyre on the front. Wider at the back like a lambo baby!

The acid test would be one of the big manufacturers to give you an XC bike to review and compare.

You might want to get one of those lever(on the seat) actuated droppers from KS. May want to try a wheelset on your Breezer.

Longer stem may fix the “twitchy” feel! Also, it may be slightly big for you 18-19 inch would be a better fit!

Yes, carbon bars do help with vibrations A LOT!
@thelifeofjessejames
@thelifeofjessejames 2 жыл бұрын
Regarding the carbon bars: Yes. That's part of the selling point for them, the fact that they're better when it comes to absorbing vibrations and reducing arm pump. I have One Up carbon bars on my full suspension and it's a noticeable improvement over the stock aluminum bars
@Metal-Possum
@Metal-Possum 2 жыл бұрын
I recommend using slip on grips, Oury grips are my favourite, and they absorb the vibrations a lot more than anything with a plastic sleeve inside it. For gravel/light XC type stuff, laminated bamboo handlebars (Passchier) offers superior comfort.

Can we get a follow up if you have changed anything? I just ordered their MFM200 frame and rigid fork for a gnarly "gravel" race this winter. I'm thinking a rigid XC setup starting with drop bars if the ergonomics work. I think I'm mostly migrating everything off my old Niner rlt9.

I have a 29ner hardtail for Cross country with no dropper🤦‍♂️ , going from a 160mm enduro bike the downs are definitely more difficult , xc bike feels that little bit twitchy in the downs with the fast rolling tyres skinnier bars and a seat up your bum 🤣🤣 but it kinda makes its that bit more fun in a dangerous kinda way , but the ups are the best ever 👌👌👌

Descending is in my opinion the only place a hardtail suffers. I love my plus hardtail and all my friends ride full suss, the only place they out do me are on the chunky descents.
@johndef5075

Exactly. The fun parts. I started on no sus, then hardtails, then full. At 59 I aint going back. Last time I tried to ride a hardtail like I ride my full sus it was so sketchy I sold the bike the next day😅

Honestly, that bike looks better suited for more chunky gravel riding than traditional single track mountain biking as it sits. I'd be using it as a gravel bike myself or put better tires and a dropper if you're wanting to continue to use it for mtb
