Had both....And luv all Roti... But Trinidad's Roti and Curries are usually seasoned and flavored a bit better that makes it more desirable.

Puri means bread and Roti means "layered" bread in the old Caucasus language. Puri is made for sweets. Roti is made for vegetables, meats, or butter. These flatbreads were made by Caucasus-Indian women who arrived in Guyana and taught their recipes which spread like wildfire into the Caribbean. Dhalpuri, however, was invented by tribal Indian women back in India using Caucasus flatbread but they misused the words.

@kemoy_martin In Trinidad dhalphiurie is made with split peas mixed within the flour. There is also paratha which is like strips of roti (without the split peas) - so the curry can not be wrapped inside as you experienced with dhalpourie. BTW split peas is known as dhal (sp).

All Indian flatbread is a certain TYPE of roti, and there is 3 main types and each type has a few variations...first is de 'sada' roti type a basic type which is common in everyday household meals; it is essentially naan bread which is a more popular name it is known by (variations are garlic naan, tandoori naan or the fried version)...paratha and puri roti types have a lot more going on and they are mostly reserved for parties and social events and everyday commercial enterprises (roti shops)...paratha is loved for it's buttery softness and flakyness (variations are aloo paratha and a sweet version named 'rote')...Puris has a handful of ground lentil center-stuffed in the dough making process and the end product has an oily surface (most popular is dhal puri which has ground split peas and a variation would be peas puri which is ground pigeon peas)

Guyanese food is just top Caribbean food. Trinis just repack food from India none of the ingredients they use are unique to them . Thats why Guyanese restaurants always outlast trinis everywhere abroad.
