Babymetal has a natural shelf-life. I can't see Su and Moa doing this in ten years time. What they do next is the interesting question. As their English improves, so will their opportunities beyond Japan. They both play guitar, so maybe they'll build a band around them. They may also continue collaborations with other bands. Given their career to date, you can be sure that whatever they do, it won't be boring. 🤘🔥

You should watch the Unhelpful, Helpful guide to BabyMetal. Getting into BabyMetal now is weird because of the fact that they been around 10 years and you have to realize what songs are on what albums and how old the girls were when they were recorded/filmed.

I've personally seen them play a venue that barely holds over 1,000 ppl (Fonda Theater, LA, USA), and I know they've played smaller venues. BABYMETAL busted their asses to get to Arenas & Stadiums. The Fonda show was in the summer 2014, when it was 97°F all day, then the venue Air Conditioning broke... To finish the show, the venue opened every door & found all the fans they could, but it was so hot in the room you could easily see the sweat & breath in the air. BABYMETAL tore the house down with a blistering 90 minute set and encore. Moa was treated for heat exhaustion and hospitalized overnight, when it was over. I feel it is important to say that it was the girls that pushed themselves that hard, their parents were there as chaperones to protect the performers welfare. I was behind and met their families for that show. I know a lot of American bands that may have barely trudged through a show under those conditions, and possibly cancelled, but BABYMETAL didn't hesitate. They've had nothing handed to them, as Artists.

Good reaction. Their beginnings were a whole lot more modest than you think. They started as a sub-unit of a bigger Idol group and were provided absolutely no budget for costumes or anything (they had to borrow clothes for their first costumes) as the expectations they would ever succeed were zero. When they started playing their own concerts they began in tiny venues with a 150-250 capacity and even played the food hall at one festival. I've seen a video of them playing in a shopping mall. They worked hard to get where they are now having begun with nothing and with everybody expectiing the whole thing to be a short lived and soon forgotten experiment. On the song writing, the songs are written for THEM so that they can relate to the lyrics, some include references to things that have happened to them (eg Uki Uki Midnight) and it seems they have more input than most of us imagined, especially the more recent songs. I'd say there are many metal musicians and vocalists who have never written a word or a note - and given the girls were only 12 and 11 when they started and had never listened to metal I suspect their efforts wouldn't have matched up to the well crafted songs written by professional song writers and composers that they now have in their catalogue.

They were formed as the exact polar opposite of a super group lol. They were a sub group of a kinda smallish Junior Idol group (Sakura Gakuin), that was formed on the idea of their producer with zero budget. They had to borrow clothes for their first costumes, and their first shows that they played apart from SG were in tiny little clubs. They worked their way up, although their ascent to larger venues was pretty fast...they caught on quickly.

Babymetal was not created as a supergroup. Quite the opposite. They played to plenty of small crowds. They still do. They love to perform and they can do a 3000 person arena every 3 days. Su has said that was 'addicted to performing'. You're going to see the big shows because they look cooler and they are the ones that are professionally recorded. When Babymetal was formed they were 12 years old. They had no budget and there was no band backing them. If you want to see how they started this was their third ever live performance. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/jst0mtymnqvZp3k.html It was a crazy concept that not a lot of people believed in. If you want to see what they look like now in a small show this is a VERY good fancam. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/d5yUiNmJyLXXXWQ.html If you want to see others there thousands of fancams of Babymetal in small shows. As far as not performing their own music. I don't care how the sausage is made. I could not care less about the tender feefees of the musicians. If there is a group of people who get way more credit for everything they do than everybody else does it's musicians. Secondly they do things with this that no band that writes their own music could ever do. They do 15 different genres of music on every album. If their songs were written by others and they made the same music as everybody else then you might have a point. But they create something that you could not ever do in the traditional way.

dude, they started in front of a hundred people, in a tiny warehouse, they worked their way up to crowds like this. They are a huge team who all collaborate. the choreography is related to the story of the song.

The large shows are almost all in Japan. They regularly tour the world and play in much smaller venues of 1500 to 3000 people. They are never going to get close enough to touch but they are much closer. Who gets insulted by saying they have poppy vocals??? That is exactly what they are. They describe themselves that way.

Okay. So, some background that I haven’t seen covered that may be helpful. Firstly, as the others said, this was not a supergroup. When they started Amuse didn’t give them a single penny to perform. The girls had to wear their own clothes and performed for super small groups to a backing track since they couldn’t afford live musicians. The person who founded them, Kobametal, didn’t conceive the idea of a super group, what he saw was a young girl, Su-metal, who had the most powerful and clear voice he ever heard, and being a metal fan in a country where metal was dying, he had the thought that her voice was strong enough to be heard over the wall of sound that is metal. He then conceived the idea that melding the cultural phenomena of kawaii which started in Japan in the 1970’s as a form of counter culture against the strict and suffocating conformity that is Japanese culture would mix with the western counter culture surrounding metal. He then went to the company, who, like I said, basically told him he could do it but he wasn’t getting any help. He picked Yui and Moa because they were in the same group with Su at the time, were friends, and were both also very talented. Another note is that the kami band, while session musicians, all really care about the girls and are friends with each other. Also, saying that they aren’t singing about things they care about is wrong. Each song has meaning to them and the meanings of the songs have matured with the girls. For example, gimme chocolate is about wanting to each chocolate but worrying it will make you fat because there is so much societal pressure on girls to be thin in Japan. Headbanger is about a 15 (now they have changed the lyric to 20) year old girl going to her first rock/metal concert. Starlight is a tribute to the Kami band member Mikio who died after falling off a roof while stargazing. This list goes on and on. The people who wrote the songs wrote them so that the girls would connect with them and bring emotion to them. Also, it is not just ghost writers doing the music. Road of resistance was written in collaboration Dragonforce for example. They also played the song for the original album recording. Also, if you want to know just how loud and well supported Su’s vocals are you should watch her absolutely obliterate Rob Halford in terms of volume when they sang painkiller together. Also, be aware that BABYMETAL base lore. Like a whole backstory about how they were chosen by the fox god and what their mission is and on and on. This will become more obvious as you see more songs and is very obvious at concerts where they have whole informational song intros. This is interesting because it means some songs have 2 meanings. The lyrical meanings and their significance in the lore at pivotal concerts/tours. Overall, I have some words of advice, using the word gimmick in general turns half the baby metal fan base (called the one) rabid because we have spent 10 years convincing ignorant metalheads who believe that true metal has to be some guy off pitch screaming into a microphone with pit stains and a beard that we are valid. I am not insinuating that you think this way but that is what that word triggers so if that is not what you mean/want to happen I would choose another word or phrase.

Some metalheads dont realize that Yui’s vocals on St Anger really fits the aggression behind the beat... that “sweet innocence” belie the sinister intent of the delivery..... There’s something unnerving when you hear it.... perfection.

babymetal was not created as a supergroup, that is a myth. They started out small and worked their way up. Here is a clip of them in their first solo show in 2012, in front of a sold out crowd of 200. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/hLp0bKV3ttqdpZc.html How the group started was Su was singing an anime theme song in a girl group at the age of 10, and a producer, Kei Kobayasho, Koba-metal, saw her and noticed her power ansd stage presence. As a producer he envisioned her singing metal which he is a big fan of, and a couple years later he had an opportunity to work with Su. He recuited Yui and Moa, and cut a single. They borrowed clothes from fellow students and teachers to make stage costumes, and that is how they were for a couple of years. Koba once said he could not produce metal band in Japan, but he could do Babymetal. Metal was just not that popular a genre at the time. If you wanted to cash in on a vocalist, they would have gone JPop. Babymetal has always been about the music. The hyper marketing came later with success. As far as writing songs, it's a different culture, different system. Marty Friedman ex Megadeth has talked about it. I can't say how Babymetal works, but I know singers in other bands come up with an idea for a song, and then someone else in the band will write it. What Babymetal does come up with is the choreo - the ideas for the dancing star with Moa metal, and they work with a choreographer to take her steps and make it into a routine for the concert. Su has a lot of input on the songs, they don't do a song if Su doesn't agree to it, so if she isn't feeling it she'll pass. And Su directs the mixes for concerts. They're a lot more involved in the creation portion than you would think. And Ghostwriting. Ozzy. Just saying.

I think you're forgetting who they are, and also what they do when you're thinking about letting fans get close enough for them to touch. Not only could they interrupt the dancing that they do. Also, they started out as young 10-12 year old girls, not something that random people should have a chance to be grabbing at. Now the two left are attractive adult women. Once again, not ones you want to let random people have a go at. Don't underestimate their humble beginnings and how much work it took them to actually make it. You're seeing videos of them years later from performances in Japan. It's easy to get the wrong impression when you're only seeing shows that come from bigger shows, 5 or 6 years after the band started, and 2 albums in.

As a punker from waay back to present and all I've ever experienced is bands close up and personal and doing music they wrote I would go to a babymetal show in a New York minute. Joy is hard to come by in life. They bring joy. And, yes they don't write their own stuff but take this song: it's about basically hey, you guys who are selfish should not even talk to me. 'Catch me if you Can' (with great Kami band intro solos, btw) these girls taunt 'Oni' a Japanese ogre who searches out the naughty children. ' Ijime, Dame, Zettai ' is about anti bullying, Megitsune is about, basically, breaking free from the restrictive role of the Japanese woman, Headbanger is about a girl going to her first heavy metal concert. So someone is absolutely writing with these girls and their role in society in mind.

Yeah, BabyMetal Started as a metal club in a school setting. Then they went to a tiny venue where their hard work eventually led them to 10 years of success. BabyMetal often expresses the love of their fan base. This a good reaction!! IDK about these ghosts writers... However, l have been watching BabyMetal since the beginning unless you are talking about 2010 when these ladies we kids in middle school. If so then yes. 💀 💕 / 🔥 😡 😡 🔥 It's kind of like every orchestra in the world. Symphonies don't usually write all of their own music. : ) It's not like Metallica threw away all of the existing guitar and bass parts of their songs when they added new members that played those instruments. Most Metal bands don't rewrite all of their lyrics when they've had to change lead singers. I'm not knocking the independent spirit. I'm glad that groups exist that do everything themselves. It's great to have that perspective. I just don't need or expect that to be the entire music world. Much of the footage you saw in this 'Sis.Anger' compilation was from Tokyo Dome. They played two sold out nights in a row back in September 2016. That venue holds 55,000. Their first headlining show was at Rock-May-Kan in 2012. That venue holds 250 people. Metal music is a niche genre, even in the UK and USA. Even more so in Japan. No one in the industry was throwing money at BABYMETAL when they started. They originated as the "Heavy Music Club" sub-unit of a school-themed Idol group called Sakura Gakuin. If you watch their first music video for 'Doki Doki ☆ Morning' it's pretty clear it was a shoestring production. Su's coat was borrowed from one of the Sakura Gakuin teachers. Moa's vest was borrowed from Yui, and Yui borrowed hers from fellow student Raura. The girls taught the skeleton dudes in the video the dance moves themselves. It wasn't until they started to blow up online that their producer Koba was allowed to even submit a business plan for BABYMETAL as an independent group. It's a testament to their hard work, the charisma of the members, and the high standard they have for their songwriting, choreography and staging.

Elvis Presley never wrote a song, he is credited with one, but that's unsure, never did him any harm not writing songs. I've seen Babymetal play in places that hold 1.2k, they don't need the special effects, they keep you entertained all the time. The solo 1st live they did was in a place that only holds 250. God I wish they'd do a 2 hour set, the longest they do is almost 1 1/2 hours, the last tour they were on stage for an hour.

Understand Su has input as to the lyrics as do most singers (AKA Freak Sinatra). As early as Doki Doki Morning, she requested lyric changes to make easier for her to sing. Moa with Su create the primary dance steps for each song, from that they work with their choreographer Mikikometal (Mikiko Mizuno) to "fine tune" and finalize the dance routine. The arena is the Tokyo Dome where they sold-out 2 nights running, dome capacity 55,000! Each night was a different concert.Biggest audience they performed in front of 2014 Sonisphere (GB), estimated 60,000 who most had no idea who Babymetal is!! Needless to say they conquered.

Babymetal's first concert where they were the headline was to about 150 people. As of others have said they were not formed to be a supergroup, they just turned out to be super. You could see Babymetal in the US in venues that only fit about 2k or so just last year. The first time I saw them in San Francisco about 4 years ago the theater only could fit about 1,500.

You mention the exact problem that I had with Babymetal for years...until I decided to 'put my head out of my ass' and look at it ovjectively. There are no 'ghost writers' as the people who write the music are clearly mentioned. And just how many AWESOME musicians are out there that 'no one' ever hears about? All the guest musicians who've played for the kami band have their own projects and excistance as musicians and the project Babymetal actually gives them a huge stage while providing them with an income with which they can finance their own stuff so I think there is a win-win situation in there which might be overlooked by some [as it was by me when I was just 'They don't make their own music so I can't really respect them' ^^'' -jep, not my brightest moment. It was a really narrow minded thought of me, especially because there might be a lot of musicians who actually enjoy working with other people on music they wouldn't have played on their own - and therefore wouldn't have written for in the first place. It can be a good oppiortunity to gain bigger knowlege of different playing technics and styles and thereby shape you as a musician.] There are different types of music [industries] in this world and in the end I think Babymetal found a good way to combine two of them and maybe it is exactly because their music isn't super deep from a lyrical point of view that they can create such strong emotions of joy and promote kindness the way they do. I really liked your reaction :) Now if you would like to listen to some musicians who write their own stuff: Please react to Dir en grey! Vinushka would be a perfect song if you haven't heard the band yet. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/g6uglc6frrqXe6M.html Otherwise, check out Vanitas which is one of their calmer songs kzfaq.info/get/bejne/l9aUgsSWv6e1loE.html

They play small venues. I've seen them twice where I was within 10 feet of them and their energy, professionalism and especially connection to the audience/fans is absolutely, genuinely fantastic. You don't see as much of that in the arena performances but hell, the same applies to any band where distance is too big. The girls are primarily singers and dancers not songwriters but they definitely have a lot of input into the songs they choose to do - especially as they have got older.

I understand your point about the songwriting. On the other hand, it's not unusual for a typical band 5 five musicians that only one of them writes the lyrics, or only one or two write the music. So even then there's two or three band members who didn't write them... But what's even more important, as least to my personal taste, the fact that everyone involved in BABYMETAL only does the thing they are doing best is really noticable in the result. I think that their performances are top notch in so many areas is because of just that.

Let me first say, I really enjoy your reactions/analysis. You're just starting out with Babymetal, so it's more than understandable you don't know much and maybe heard/read a lot of misconceptions about them. I think most Babymetal fans know that and try to help you with their knowledge. And let me apologize in advance for the long ass post... that's kinda my thing these days, they create a life on their own. You have to see the "writing their own music" from the perspective of how this all started. You can't really expect 11 and 12 year old girls, or in the case of Sis.Anger 16 and 17 year old girls, to write their own music, especially if they're new to the whole metal genre. They were, or still are when it comes to in front of a camera, Idols. And while there are Idols who write their own stuff, it's more common they have teams behind them who do everything for them so the "only thing" they have to do is perform the songs. The whole Idol culture is very different to everything that exists in the west. I could write an essay about all the problems and benefits this culture created, it would probably go way beyond the scope of a KZfaq comment (if you're interested, let me know ;)). And that's maybe how Babymetal started, but at least since 2017/2018 they have much more input behind the scenes as you may think. If I understand this whole process right from what I've read, Moa for example creates or refines the choreos and everything that goes along with it from a "blueprint" she gets from MIKIKO, their choreographer. She adds/changes stuff, does timings, adjusts the choreo to every one of the three Avengers (the rotating dancers without mics who replaced Yui on stage) because they all have different styles, etc. And Su is very involved in the melodies and writing of the songs, even if producers and writers lay out a foundation beforehand. The other thing you mentioned, about the supergroup, they were everything but. They started as a sub-group of a newly formed idol formation of more or less unknown 10 - 14 year old girls with a school theme, called Sakura Gakuin. Their first performance was in front of ~150 J-Pop fans in the so called "Red Brick Warehouse". And Babymetal's first "solo concert" was in the legendary Rockmaykan in Tokyo, which has a capacity of around 250 people (they are going to do a livestream in December out of the same venue to celebrate their 10th anniversary. Half the revenue will go to the venue, which is dying because of Corona pandemic, and the tour helpers). They didn't even get budget to buy costumes, they had to borrow them from staff and other members for their first video(s) and performances. And that's basically how their first two years went. Metal was all but dead in mainstream Japan after the disbandment of X Japan in 1997, there was absolutely no money to be made with it, so the management from AMUSE was probably thinking "yeah, let this madman (Key Kobayashi, who had the idea and is still their manager and main producer) do what he wants as long as he doesn't cross any lines and stays within Sakura Gakuin's guidelines". Their first show with a budget big enough to "hire" a live band for the full concert was in 2014, so 4 years after they were founded. They almost exclusively play small venues outside of Japan. There are a lot of fancams of the new songs on KZfaq from the last tour, other people linked a few. They also did a 5 concert series called "Five Fox Festival" in mid-2017 in a few "Zepp" venues, which have a capacty from 1500 - 2500 people roughly, even though they performed in front of 55k people in Tokyo Dome only a year before (that's the big circular stage in the Sis.Anger compilation). And one last thing for this already too long post (again, sorry for that), the whole point of "forming organically" is way too overrated. I can't really think of too many bands who really formed organically. To give an example, for me it's not organic when one guy/girl places an ad in a magazine/on the internet because he/she is looking for 4 strangers he/she can form a band with. If you really look at it, Babymetal was even formed more organically than these bands. Sure, there was also a guy who "placed the ad" (to stay with my example), in this case it would've been the manager, but all three band members knew each other beforehand and were friends already.

They actually started out playing in tiny venues when they first started, Meguro Rockmaykan was their first solo gig as BABYMETAL(Look it up on google image search, it's comically small). They've played in many intimate gigs throughout their career and it works amazingly well imo. Nowadays in 2020 they still play a lot of smaller gigs especially when they tour outside of Japan, in Europe and the US and such. As for the focus on the dancing in this song, the lead singer is Suzuka so naturally the so-called 'Black Babymetal' songs featuring Yui and Moa aren't as focused on the vocals. Cheers.

You have to see BABYMETAL rather like a top-notch symphony orchestra than the band you know from the neighbors garage. I use to call them a metal performance group. Over the years they got more and more influence in the way they perform. Nowadays they, for instance, more or less develop their own choreograpies which will then be honed by a professional choreograph. And sometimes members of the Kami-Band are involved in the writing or recording of a certain song. But, in general, BABYMETAL is much more a group effort starting with the song writers and ending with the guys (or gals) doing the lighting at their live shows.

This is a live compilation, not taken from the same concert. The stage you mention, the huge round one, was from their Tokyo dome concerts. They held two concerts there in two days. 50 000 people on each one, completely sold out. Those two concerts were at the end of one of their world tours, and they are famous for a multitude of reasons, one of which is, a lot of people from all over the world flew to Japan just to attend those concerts. They are available on Blu Ray and DvD, and they are most likely, the best live concerts a metal band has ever done (yes I am including Rammstein, SlipkNot and other epic non metal concerts that are famous and impressive, BabyMetal at the Tokyo Dome trumps all of them).

Hmm... I think you are understanding Babymetal as a label marketing pop-like production and even if it has some form of it as it was produced inside the japanese idol industry, it is far away to be the case. Let's talk on their formation because it is a very peculiar story. Once upon a time a guy who was an avid metal fan and had been walking around the at that time small Tokyo metal underground scene, *Key Kobayashi,* happened to be working on a bakery stand in Japan festivals. That made him make some contacts on the industry and ended working as small producer in an idol label called Amuse, that was his first step into his dream, make metal great again. Amuse had a little children band that became famous around 2008, *Karen Girls,* composed by three ~10 year old girls, one of them, *Suzuka Nakamoto* (now Su-metal). Koba(-yashi) heard her and thought _this girl has a penetrating voice but will never outstand in pop music,_ and the madman thought, why don't she... Soon after he with more people on the company started a project in which they simulated a music high school with idols in training called Sakura Gakuin, with little sub-units that touched different themes. *Kobayashi* moved strings so he could get *Suzuka* on his care and inside this program they started the project he had envisioned, took the two tiniest girls in the program to accompany *Su,* and founded a heavy metal sub-unit, by the name *Babymetal.* Amuse didn't give a shit to this madman idea at first. They spent two years performing as part of Sakura Gakuin and they had to even borrow the clothes for the girls. Koba wrote (and still writes) with the assistance of other guys the songs, and they started to perform independent as *Babymetal* and out of Sakura Gakuin two years after the birth of the band. At the start in very little underground metal venues, for example, this was their first solo show as an independent band at *Rock May Kan* (July 2012), venue for 250 persons [song:Iine!] kzfaq.info/get/bejne/nJ1_f8aonrWveIk.html But thanks to the talent of everyone involved it started to grow. And we are here now after several years, a worldwide phenomenon and the biggest japanese band out of Japan ever. That stage you just watched was *Tokyo Dome* at 2016, two days for 55.000 persons each day, their biggest venue ever. But even to this day Amuse doesn't put too much finantial support to them as they are more centered in the idol industry that's what they do. This is nearly a personal project for *Koba.* On watching Babymetal live is also not like a normal band, this works more like a show. Same way you can't really judge Cirque du Soleil by the audio track. Thank you for the video and sorry for the long post.

"Kobayashi moved strings so he could get Suzuka on his care and inside this program they started the project he had envisioned" Just curious, why do I see sometimes that Koba pulled strings to get Su in Sakura Gakuin ? Wasn't she good enough to be selected ? I might have missed something (or misunderstood, that is the most likely lmao)

She was of course, together with Ayami Muto were probably the most known girls in the program. But even months before Sakura Gakuin started Koba was already writing the songs for Su, Doki Doki Morning probably. Babymetal was already in the making as a project for her before SG started.

Yes, BABYMETAL had to work hard before they could be accepted by the company. No company in their right mind would put money in to a "cute metal" genre that did not have a demand or fanbase, and metal in Japan at the time was not a good money making niche. I would like to add that in the beginning that they use to perform at small warehouses and food courts in front of 100-150 people. Here is a link to their first performance of their first song "Doki Doki Morning" at a Sakura Gakuin "festival" in a warehouse back in 2010. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/qLKGfNCfstTck2Q.html One last thing that I always have to mention is that when BABYMETAL was formed, the 3 girls were very close friends and were like family...which is evident in their many emotional Sakura Gakuin videos. This is not typical of a manufactured band.

Something a lot of people don't mention. Babymetal is mainly designed to be a live performance troupe. It's based on the 3 groups. You have "Babymetal" which is the two girls. (Su-Metal,Moa-Metal), Then you have a recent addition called. "The Avengers" which is a rotating cast of girls who take up the third spot next to Su-Moa. The Avengers change based on the venue/country. While also changing during different songs during the same concert. And then you have the 3rd unit. "Kami Band" Which is broken up into 2 sub units. East/West. All the band members rotate in/out based on their own schedules since they also have/belong to their own bands/projects as well. Now you have all the support staff. Which i'm sure is massive! Including song writers , choreo, techs etc. Now you were curious about Babymetal writing their own songs...Normally that is not the case. Except for one song. "4 no Uta". Which was written on a tour bus by the two youngest girls Moa-Yui. They took their idea to Koba-Metal (Producer) And he turned it into a reality. Hope that helps you undestand some of the dynamics involved with this band.

As others have pointed out orchestras and opera singers don't write their own music. Popular music has a long time tradition of using songwriters. Singers like Bing Crosby and Frank SInatra had songwriters. Rock acts use outside writers. The emphasis in rock culture on the band doing all the work of writing the music and lyrics and performing it is actually a bit unusual in the history of music. On their last US tour they did the LA Forum arena, but most of the other venues were like a few thousand. Not exactly intimate but not a stadium.

They have more input in the creative process than you think. Su the singer held up one song for 2.5 years because it wasn't prefect. Once they all worked on it for a while she said it was ready and it on the next album. She comes up with a lot of the melodies, even her older sister came up for the melody at the start of one of the songs.

Why does musicians and singers have to write their own music, but we are ok with actors not writing their own movies? Babymetal does have a say in part of the songs and dance moves, SU will come in to hear a song and do "la la la" singing over it to show how she want the singing to go, then lyrics are made to match that, Yui & Moa have gotten "homework" like watching movies and comming back with idears for dance moves that rhen are worked with to create the whole dance set. Still good video, thx for the reaction.

It was a 360 degrees stage and with a big screen above it and 2 smaller stages on top of that. The screens might have been 20 meters (60+ feet) high, maybe that includes the lower stage.

The girls were 11 and 12 when they started and really had no idea what metal even was so writing and composing their own songs would have been pretty sketchy. They did write the one song though. They are adults now but its probably a case of, if it ain't broke don't fix it, when it comes to the song writing. Btw its kawaii Kah wah ee not kah why. Not trying to be the language police, I just brought it up because the way you pronounced it is more like their word for 'scary '. Unless I don't know exactly what ghostwriter means, I think most or all of the writers are still 'part of the team' so to speak even if they don't perform. The girls do contribute in the writing process. Su has talked about her forming the melodies in songs, and Moa also works with the choreo, now that there's 3 rotating members, making sure they express themselves live in the best way possible. Their creative work is definitely more behind the scenes, but it's clear and undeniable how much goes into their live shows where it matters. Let's see Tokyo Dome (massive stage in this video) as an example: think about the choreo changes required due to the rotating stage, when they're going to other platforms or when they're going on top of the whole thing (yes, there's platforms at the very top above the screens). The amount of work that goes in for them to pull off 60-90 minute shows consistently and perfectly with all the singing and choreo is insane. It's completely understandable that it feels weird when performers aren't performing what they wrote, but to me everything else they do makes up for it. I can't think of any metal group that can pull off what they do. Also, their vocals are poppy. That's the whole point. Kawaii + metal. Don't know why people would be pissed with that, but people get pissed about everything these days so... Great reaction! I think you should go for 'Megitsune' (OFFICIAL) next. It's probably their best music video, and song according to most fans. It's a classic that I think you'll love. Peace.

Regarding the songwriting: I kinda doubt the girls and the band have minimum effort on the songwriting process. They are not credited for songwriting that's for sure, but that does not mean they knew nothing about it. I believe they are involved in the process. - Some songs took years of processing before ever performed (e.g. NIGHT NIGHT BURN). - BxMxC was said intended for Yui & Moa but it never came out until 2019, after Yui departed. - They of course wrote the lyric for Song 4. - The musicians wrote some parts in a song (Leda Cygnus wrote the solo part for Arkadia, Herman Lee and Sam Totman for Road of Resistance). - Suu-metal seldom perform NO RAIN NO RAINBOW because she feels she has to summon the right feeling to perform it. - As I understand it, songwriting process in Babymetal was a back and forth process between the writers, performers, and temporary studio musicians. Regarding the smaller stage performances: Babymetal performed in many small stages, particularly in their early years and during road shows. In one particular instance, at the 5 Fox Festival 2017, the audience was sorted (Black Fox show was man only, Red Fox show was women only, Gold Fox show for teenagers, Silver Fox show for kids and seniors, and White Fox show for audience with corpse paint). I attended one of those smaller shows in 2013. It was not that extravagant, not that intimate either, just somewhere in between. They used to have meet and greet event for the fans, but the last time that happen was AFA Singapore 2012 as far as I know.

Nice reaction again & thanks from Japan 有難う💛。 The words used in this lyrics are harsh, aggravating and brutal. But the combination of such overstated aggressiveness and their facial expression (overly serious and a little smile) indicates they are trying to encourage boys and inflame their guts. That is why the guys at the venue shout to the girls' moves smilingly and happily. I love their sideward kicks which are cute and tender not intending to hurt anyone. And the scene at 10:50 in your video where Yui & Moa spread their arms and shrug their shoulders a little bit saying "what shall I do ? (to guys begging them for forgiveness)" is lovely.

You'll need to forget about what music *should* be before you'll be able to grasp what BABYMETAL actually is. Go ahead and listen to a studio track, but it's not going to be representative of the band's actual product at all. The real band is all about the live experience, whether in a large or small venue, and about the choreo, and about getting the audience hyped up and chanting and jumping along. The studio tracks are sort of like just blueprints for what the songs will be once the audience gets to participate.

I try not to look at it as a "band" and look at it as a "performance". It's like a metal opera. None of the people performing the opera wrote anything, but they execute it beautifully. It's a great performance nonetheless. They don't care if they wrote it. They just enjoy performing it beautifully to give you an epic experience. Sure, you can think of it as a band. I am not trying to argue if it's a band or not a band. To me it doesn't really matter. I just like something if it's good or not. It's not a cheesy gimmick is the difference. It's an epic gimmick. If you want something more mature you should listen to their newer stuff like Distortion, Kagerou, Starlight, Elevator Girl, or Pa Pa Ya. Pa Pa Ya is their most popular statistically. Kagerou is my favorite. If you watch Kagerou live they do a solo intro.

I went to BabyMetal show in San Francisco. Venue capacity was probably 1,000-1,500. The stage is probably 5ft from the front row. BabyMetal brought the same energy & professionalism as what you’ve seen in their BIG shows. As for BabyMetal was a “super group” from their creation. Answer is no they weren’t. Amuse didn’t actually think BabyMetal would blow up as they did. They didn’t even have the funding to have a real backing band. Performing in an anime convention isn’t necessarily considered big venue. The girls were preteens when BabyMetal was created. I understand the critique that they don’t write their own songs. I don’t agree with that critique but I understand it. But BabyMetal isn’t a typical Metal band. Far from it. The fact that you said that you’re ok with makes you more open-minded than many others. As for the members of the Kami Band, they have their own music projects outside BabyMetal. The Kari Band for Japanese members. Galactic Empire for the American members. I’ve read somewhere that members of the Kami Band really appreciate what BabyMetal gave to them… an opportunity to travel the world, perform in countries they might not necessarily have had the chance to perform on.

BABYMETAL 101 Founded 2010 and produced by Key “Koba” Kobayashi from the Amuse Inc. talent agency. Babymetal name comes from the birth of a new style of metal fusing j-pop with metal creating what they call Kawaii Metal (Cute-Metal). The group currently consists of Suzuka Nakamoto aka “Su-Metal” (22 years old) sometimes referred to as Vocal and Dance, and Moa Kikuchi aka Moa-Metal (21 years old) sometimes referred to as Scream and Dance. With a rotating trio of girls filling the third slot, in a 3-member formation. These girls are known as Avengers and are Kano Fujihara (16 years old), Riho Sayashi (21 years old), and Momoko Okazaki (17 years old). They are supported by a rotating selection of talented backing musicians known as the Kami Band (Kami is usually poorly translated as gods, but in truth it more closely means awe inspiring spirit, entity, or object) It is why they are dressed in white to look like ghosts or spirits, though Kami being used as God(s) is so common in translation the white outfits get lost. Past Formations. Heavy Music Club Era (2010-2012) From 2010 to 2012 Babymetal consist of a three-member formation, Suzuka Nakamoto (Age 12), Moa Kikuchi (Age 10), and Yui Mizuno aka Yui-Metal (Age 10). First starting out as the Heavy Music Club as a subunit within the Developmental Idol Group created by Amuse in 2010 known as Sakura Gakuin. Sakura Gakuin is group that introduces girls between the ages of 10-15 to music, dance, modeling, and acting through Japanese Pop idol music and culture. Given a school theme, all three would be a part of Sakura Gakuin until their graduation from it in the same school year they would graduate from Japanese middle school or 15 years old. Suzuka graduated in March 2013, and Moa and Yui in March of 2015. Sakura Gakuin is a fantastic group with great kawaii jpop songs in their own right. During this time there was no lore, and the girl’s costumes were more punkish in nature which they helped create. They also didn’t perform with live music, using a backing track or the “Skeleton band” people pretending to play music behind them. Music Video of this Era Doki Doki Morning Iine (Pronounced EE-NAH spelled i i n e) Headbangya Babymetal Era (2012-2017) Starting in 2012 with the Legend I concert, Babymetal began its slow divorce from Sakura Gakuin, and was the first introduction of the Kami Band as well as the “Lore” that is still heavily involved in Babymetal but makes far less sense than it did during this time. The Lore is complex and involves a battle against other evil idol corporations, gaining powers running a resistance group, all at the direction of a mythical deity known as the fox god, against an all power enemy known as Akiba. The first Legend show I was the Kami Bands introduction to the end, but it also had the Skeleton Band which is seen in the wildly popular Gimmie Chocolate Music Video. This was followed by Legend D, and then Legend Z, in which it was learned that Babymetal would continue as its own entity after Suzuka’s graduation from Sakura Gakuin in March of 2013. Slowly over 2013 the Skeleton Band would be phased out of all live shows, as Babymetal came into their own. Babymetal as it is most commonly known as with Su-Metal, Moa-Meta, and Yui-Metal, Kami Band, and a somewhat understandable lore is what consisted for the majority of it’s existence. Also established beyond the 3 member formation, they had 2 other set ups, one was what fans called Su-Solos, and it would just be Su on stage with the Kami band, performing a solo, and the other is known as Black Babymetal by the band themselves, which consisted of just Moa and Yui. Music Videos of this Era Gimmie Chocolate Megitsune Rondo of Nightmare - With mischief of the Gods Intro (Su Solo and a great expedition of the Kami Band) Road of Resistance Live in Japan (Co-written by Dragonforce) Iijime, Dame, Zettai Live at Sonisphere (No More Bullying Forever) Karate The Dark Times, The Chosen 7 Era In December 2017, Yui would miss the Legend-S concert for health reasons, these health problems would prosiest into 2018 and greatly affect the 2018 touring season bring the “Chosen 7” formation, consisting of Suzuka Nakamoto, Moa Kikuchi, and 2 backing dancers Minako Maruyama, and Minami Tsukui. Changes they would not tell fans and all throughout 2018 communicate extraordinarily little causing lots of pain for all involved fan and performer. This era is noted by their strange armor like costumes, sometimes referred to as Elf Armor. To make the poor communication, and Yui’s absence wasn’t bad enough, one of the more regular Kami band members, Mikio Fujioka passed away after falling off a balcony in late December 2017 while star gazing. A beloved and incredibly talented musician lost leaving behind his wife and only child. In September 2018 Yui would formally resign from Babymetal, stating her unspecified health and wishing to move on. Babymetal themselves announced that the group will move on focusing on Suzuka and Moa. (Something many idiots within the fandom refuse or are too stupid to understand) In October Babymetal had a concert called Dark Night Carnival which added dancers, Shoko Akiyama, Saya Hirai, and Kotono, placing a total of seven girls on stage. This was also done without warning to fans and was an absolute mess. Babymetal would finish off the 2018 tour season returning to the 3-member formation with just Saya Hirai joining them in southeast Asia and Australia. Ending one of the most troubling times in Babymetal’s history. Music Videos of this Era (These MVs do not feature the members in them at all) Distortion Starlight Metal Galaxy Era The current set up was first introduced in 2019 during the Babymetal Arises concert in Yokohama, before the start, the “Avenger” support dancer concept was explained in the lore, and the concept thanks to communication and a maintaining of the 3 member formation brought Babymetal out of dark times brought about during 2018. Babymetal seemed to have returned to its roots with the Avengers, as 2 of the three (Kano and Momoko) come from Sakura Gakuin. The third Riho, went to the same performing arts school as Suzuka during the same time, Actors School Hiroshima aka ASH. Music Videos of this Era Pa Pa Ya Elevator Girl Shanti Shanti Da Da Dance (Avenger confusion) Which Avenger one sees can be confusing for those new to Babymetal. For the Music Videos, Pa Pa Ya, Elevator Girl, and Shanti Shanti Shanti, it is Kano Fujihara, who was just 14 years old at the time. Da Da Dance is a compilation of Momoko and Riho and a splicing of 2 different shows. In most fan cam videos of the American and European tour it would be either Riho or Momoko, as they toured with Babymetal in 2019. Kano had responsibilities with Sakura Gakuin as its president, a position Suzuka and Moa both held in Sakura Gakuin, and she’s never flown on a plane before. Some fans for 2019 did throw a stupid temper tantrum over the use of new Kami Band members who are from the west now known as the West Coast Kami Band, but like how the girls won over many, so did they and the payoff with the Legend Metal Galaxy concert was well worth it. COVID Era COIVD-19 has messed up a lot of things for everyone, Babymetal had to cancel their Asian tour, as well their big 10th Anniversary on October 10, 2020. Forced to keep it rather tame something very unlike Babymetal as even in their failures like the entire 2018 tour they do it septically. The question for many fans is what of the Avengers, since COVID, Avenger Riho Sayashi has signed with a new agency and has move on to other projects, including starting a fan club, which appears to rule her out of ever being an Avenger again. Kano Fujihara has graduated from Sakura Gakuin on August 30, 2020, a near 4 month delay. However, she and fellow Sakura Gakuin graduates Soyoka Yoshida, Tsugumi Aritomo, and Momoe Mori in the formation of @onefive. Which leaves Momoko Okazaki as last standing Avenger with no new commitments. However, Kano was technically in Sakura Gakuin, @onefive, and Babymetal all at the same time for almost a year so it is possible she will still be an Avenger. Gimmicky, yeah right buddy, 10 years, they proven they are the real deal with amazing performances and HARD af vocals and music. BABYMETAL is an experience not some band standing there just screaming and struming their instruments. People need to expand there minds and just feel and enjoy. Top best LIVE band out there... They are exceptional in a small venue, The Tab in Atlanta GA, small venue Awesome performances Su and Moa just rocked it, the barrier was sooo ckose you could almost touch them 🤘The Wall Of Death there was insanely wicked, we were sardines undulating off the ground. BABYMETAL 10 years and still Legends 🤘🤘🤘

I suggest that you start at the opening of the foxhole: "Doki Doki Morning", "Gimme Chocolate", and "Iine!" (you'll be amazed at how this all began!). Then "Catch Me if You Can" and "Headbangeeeeerrrrr!!!!!". Finally, "Karate" and "GJ" pretty much rounds out their best (aside from what you've already seen).

Your choice, of course, that as an artist you prefers to write your own songs. But most-likely you end up with an album with some good tracks on it and the rest is just a bit of filling because your inspiration let you down or a deadline forced you. Then I'd rather leave that to a team of professionals that put their heads together and that results in an album full of hits (They really aren't the only onces !! ;-). What the hell does it matter to the end user (Listener) how it was created ?. In any case, I will not give up my sleep for it.

I was gonna say something about the stuff you keep bringing up, but most of the comments already covered that. They started really small and built up. Also it isn't their band. They're employees of Amuse inc. It's a massive group because Babymetal sells way better than just about all of their other properties combined and even than other mainstream bands and they put in the work. They've been accused of a lot, and just about all of it isn't true. They're legit

Well I think you need to check the earlier concerts They were play in front of just a couple of thousand fans Also they have played at the house of blues They also have written their own songs YUI and MOA HAVE A BLACK BABYMETAL SONG CALLED SONG 4 that they wrote and I believe that SU-METAL HAS CONTRIBUTED AND WRITTEN SOME OF THE SONGS REMEMBER WHEN THEY STARTED THIS WAS NOT A SUPER GROUP THEY WERE ACTUALLY A SCHOOL PROJECT VERY SPECIAL IDOL SCHOOL BUT STILL A SCHOOL PROJECT THEN WHEN THEY GRADUATED FROM MIDDLE SCHOOL THEY SUPPOSED TO LEAVE THE GROUP AS SU Was THE FIRST ONE TO GRADUATE, they have become very famous and popular so the band was moved to next level and they kept playing as BABYMETAL till today They always had the talent to deliver great performances You should check concerts of 2011 and 2012 Look for DOKI DOKI MORNING LIVE And check out the earliest performances

Great and constructive reaction, eventually you will get used to the vocals LOL. I get what your saying about doing your own music, but its a different culture over there in Japan "Obviously" and from what I understand and have been gleaning from my Babymetal journey; these girls seem to me to have been under the microscope by talent guru's since they could walk probably. They have been trained to sing, dance, be boisterous and in the public eye from a very young age and they are conformed to be comfortable with it and not show any downside or negative emotion. Seems a bit harsh from a western perspective, but again, different culture. They were thrown together into an experimental "club" and thrown to the wolves without much support from the Production company. They did a Music video Doki Doki Morning and it caught fire and Babymetal took off. From what I have read and this doesn't pertain to Babymetal, Most of the Idols in these groups or clubs are beholden to the production companies when they join these "clubs". The contracts are very specific and usually not to the favor of the artists. This has nothing to do with Babymetal that I know of, but there are several stories out there about how abusive some of these production companies are to their artists in Japan. One thing I've noticed from watching Babymetal is that every song has something cool and good for everyone. The messages are great and hit on alot of "sensitive" topics in the world and in Japan. They hit every musical spot there is and some like most of it, some don't like all of it, but there is always something that makes people say " COOL" and smile. We see it in every Babymetal reaction guys do out there. Keep up the great work, hope you do Headbanger Live "legend of 1997 concert" Thanks to whomever put up this translation, just wish there were translations on all their Official video's. Some translations seem to be way off and completely change the meaning of the songs. Just my 2 cents.

I think the stories of super-restrictive and harsh contracts are just that, "stories." Amuse and Hello! Project are consistently top ranked for how they work with their talent. Raura Iida who was a founding member of Sakura Gakuin (and in-between Su and Yui/Moa in age) said Amuse did not care about her personal life. The only requirement was that she take the work seriously and keep her grades up in regular school. And H!P seems to have treated Riho well as she was willing to guest appear years after "graduating."

Yeah, I understand what you are saying about being a vocalist feeling weird about singing someone else's songs, and I will assume that is the case with all singer/songwriters. But in reality, MANY talented singers are not good at writing songs, so have to have someone else write lyrics for them. Elton John does not write his own lyrics and has a partner, Bernie Taupin, who handles that for him. Then there is the fact that there are many bands who's lead singer does not write his/her own lyrics. If I remember correctly, DragonForce's lead singer doesn't write the lyrics for their songs either....Sam (the guitarist and founding memeber) mainly does.

The lyrics of the songs are often from the perspective of young girls, so the subject matter is miles away from what more traditional Western bands. Reading a translation of the lyrics, would probably help you to better understand their music.

Bit late to your video pretty reasonable comments i feel from your perspective. Babymetals not for everyone but many big names embraced them and saw there potential to bring new fans into music they may never have considered. As for writing there own music, theres all sorts in the industry some good at writing lyrics and or writing music who don't want to be on the stage. There are good singers and good musicians and sometimes a combination of all these things each equally valid i feel. You have to remember Su metal is only 24 (moa's around 22) after a decade of performing with babymetal, not forgetting her actors school, karen girls and sakura gakuin days shes been pretty busy all her life. her goal is to be a singer songwriter so shes most likley been working towards this. Also its Yui and Moa in this without Su she has her own solos, Good video though.

It was nice that they didn't announce that Yui had left the group until the morning that we had tickets to see them again. It wasn't comfortable yet as they had spent so long together. Two girls replaced Yui but they didn't sing and the balance was off. I was hopeful they might find a replacement for Yui but even Su and Moa are hired help and disposable. Still love them and follow them and hope they survive the transition to adulthood. Swapping out three girls doesn't seen to make as much since as having one that you can use as a promotion and income tool. Su is the real deal and a power house, her future will go as far as she feels it should.

Because this is my reaction and my opinion.. I also stated I like their music but I can see different perspectives regarding the band. I spoke about my personal opinion.. that is literally the entire point of a reaction video. I only have myself to compare to what I prefer. It doesn't make what they do right or wrong.. you chose to watch my video.. reactions are literally opinion based. I never once spoke as if I was right towards anything I spoke about just provided my opinion and I literally stated several time what MY personal preference is. My personal opinion isn't fact.. its simply just that... A personal preference. This is my reaction video so "I" will use "I" when speaking about myself.. you don't have to take me seriously. Reactions are not supposed to me bowing down to every band I listen too. I will give my personal opinon on them good or bad.. I dont overreact and I don't kiss ass to any band I react to. This is called honesty. You don't have to watch the videos I release. I dont just watch and go omg they are amazing and then end the video that's not me. Im sorry you don't like someone being blunt.

@@TrintonTaylor Allow me to respond...The misplaced authority when you're talking about Babymetal is based on faulty info and assumptions based on nothing. The result is, you are not giving an opinion, you simply place them in a fantasized category you just made up. They did NOT start as a supergroup, they did NOT play for large audiences for three years. Your consistent use of "I" was irritating because there is no similarity at all between your position as a musician and them. These girls started in their EARLY TEENS, implementing your own ideas about songwriting and musical input on them regarding their repertoire is simply ridiculous. They needed constant guidance and protection, let loose in a male dominated, rough music niche. And of course most of the time they did not have a say about the performance of their songs. What metal compositions did YOU put out at age fourteen? However, their execution of the songs were impeccable and brimming with energy. Their backing band, consisting of a few of the best metal musicians of Japan, had nothing but praise and love for them. They expressed it as the love one has for very talented little sisters. They saw things in the perspective of the girls, and admired them for what they did. Maybe it starts to dawn on you now why your reaction was misguided for the most part. Again, humbleness.

@@laughingbuddha2948 Couldn't have put it better. Again, a lot of people do make assumptions, but if one is humble and accepting, can go ahead and correct oneself. It doesn't do any harm to try and understand that there is a world beyond the imaginary boundaries and notions we put around oneself. I have been a metalhead for many years but BabyMetal as an unit was something which hit me unprepared. It takes time, but if you allow yourself, you will uncover something immensely beautiful.

I saw them at a smaller venue in Copenhagen, and they killed it. I think outside festivals, they are still not mainstream in Europe, and play mostly smaller places. Doesn't seem to affect their performances. But I would just LOVE to experience them in a huge japanese venue.
