Tour of the only home Confederate General Jackson ever owned. Lived here from 1858 to 1861 while he taught Philosophy at VMI.

They already changed the name . It was the Stonewall Jackson house. Lexington also renamed the cemetery named after him. History is being stripped away.

I guess there really is no reason for tourists to visit this place anymore because they have destroyed the original history. I guess the Red Hen showed the real demographic of the people that live there.

@@Chris_at_Home it's not the locals , it's the outsiders who run the college and are on the tourism board. The locals are very receptive to Lee Jackson Day

I have been reading S.C. Gwynne's book "Rebel Yell" about Stonewall (excellent book) so your tour of his house was timely. Thank you. Someday I would like to tour the Valley. I live in Colorado.

Yeah. I just finished that book, also. Great read. I dawdled at the end, 'cause I knew it was Jackson's impending demise. Made me sad.

If you are a Jackson fan, plan a week and visit virginia. All his battles, and the Shenandoah Valley are close within a couple hours drive.

This was a very cool explore, Chris. Stonewall’s sister, Laura Ann Jackson Arnold was married to Stark Arnold and they lived in Beverly,(W) Va. and the home she lived in while married to Stark still stands, but privately owned. They had an Uncle John Jackson who was an attorney in Clarksburg, (W) Va who was married to Mary ‘Polly’ Payne, a sister to Dolley Madison. So by marriage Stonewall was connected to the nations 4th First Lady. Thank you for sharing this!

Jackson also had ancestors who fought in the Revolutionary War but no one talks about that when they think of Jackson. Every officer Union and Confederacy during the Civil War no doubt probably had ancestors who fought for the patriots in the Revolution

Really enjoyed the tour. Thank you. I was impressed with the bed that had the foot board that rolled and you could pull the quilt up - interesting. Thanks again!

I went there last Oct 23. I was really surprised how small it was. But he was a professor and not a rich man.

In the 70's, I played the violin at Christmas festivities in the Jackson House. A prominent part of Lexington.

Sadly, Lexington Presbyterian Church, where Stonewall Jackson attended and taught Sunday School, burned down a few years ago. That was the church we attended while we lived in Lexington. It was always fun to sit in his pew and read the plaque.

Jackson did not teach philosophy! He was a professor of "Natural and Experimental Philosophy". Today, that is called Physics. BIG DIFFERENCE. Some think Jackson was a stupid hillbilly but a professor of Physics is not a stupid person.

Pathetically, VMI has gone completely woke now and Jackson's statue at the Sallyport to the VMI barracks was torn down.
