I've been lucky enough to get the Meteor out and about. This time to Wales, from Worcester to Leominster then out to Crossgates and down to Bulith Wells and back via Rhayader. It was a lovely trip and I spoke to 2-3 top people.

I've not seen too many other comments about the fuel light and why it does what it does. The sender is on one side of the tank, so as you lean left and right it "sloshes" very slightly, but enough to make the fuel light dance. I've got enough miles on mine to know that when the fuel light starts it's disco, there is still 7-8 litres of fuel left in the tank! I tend to go and fill up pretty quickly as the tripF annoys me! The other thing to note is that once you're over 1200 miles the engine is fully run in, and it will sit at 70mph all day long, and cruising at 55-60mph gives a solid 110mpg.

Hi Lead Foot, thanks for the comment and the information. A few people have mentioned fuel moving in the tank but that I get behind that a little more if I was leant right over dragging my knee/elbow 😂. Jokes aside I'm very slow and upright on the Meteor, so it seems like a bit of poor design from RE if the sender is left 'dry' given the way we ride the Meteor. I am looking forward to the engine being fully run in, I only have about 350miles to go. Thanks!

Bonjour, I have the same problem with my meteor. Last summer I have done a trip in Auvergne in France (1400km) in one week. At 300km the fuel indicator is on the "reserve" but I know I can ride at least 500km with a full tank 🙂I prefer calculate the remaining kilometers instead of fuel indicator ! Except this point, this motorbike is wonderful. It's a very good motorbike for long trips. It's not necessary to pay for a big BMW ! Bonne journée, Yves from France

Congratulations, that is one of the nicest colours. I like the colour coded fenders, combined with the chrome and of course the pillion backrest. If I had known that the brown seat was available separately and that the Touring screen that comes with the Supernova wasn't all that good then I would have gone for Stellar in Blue.

Another great video thanks. One of my favourite routes is up the 44. Couple of alternative options if you don't already know them. From Rhayader continue on the 44 to Llangurig, turn left for Devils Bridge and come back through Cymystwyth to Elan Valley and Rhayader. The other is continue on from Builth Wells towards Llandovery, after 6 miles you reach Beulah, turn right for Abergwesyn and the Devils Staircase. Drop down to Tregarron and hang a right to come back to Cymystwyth and the Elan Valley. Both routes are absolutely stunning. Stick to 60 on the 44 back from Rhyader to Crossgates as the road is normally crawling with speed cameras. Regarding the bike, better overall on long journeys without the screen for comfort levels do you think?🤔 Mines on nearly 4000 miles and as you say will noticeably loosen up after 1200 miles or so and become smoother. I regularly cruise at 60mph + without issue or feeling the bike is stressed. If you haven't already seen it look st the Hitchcocks channel on KZfaq, posted a video last week on rpm against speed and potential tuning for the future, interesting video. Finally look forward to your future videos and the touring you do.. All the best.👍

Hi Jonathan, thanks for the comment. Especially for the route instructions, it's these little tips and local knowledge that really are excellent. I have been around 60mph max on the Meteor, mine doesn't feel that comfortable faster than that and I don't like holding the throttle wide open in 5th or holding on in 4th to get up to 70mph in my running in period. Perhaps my 85kg has something to do with it 😂, or perhaps as you say the engine needs to loosen up further. Regarding the screen, I've been back and forth on this ALOT as you can imagine, I have always liked the look of the/a screen and it's the main reason I opted for the Supernova (that and the brown seat), knowing what I know now I might have gone Stellar in blue. I've also spent money on the Large Givi touring to be disappointed that the buffeting hasn't gone away. When I rode without the screen first I had a lot of wind in my chest but I believe that was because my baseline was very high protection and so it took time to get used to it. After a while it was fine. For me personally the buffeting is an irritation that somewhat spoils the ride and of course the audio. I'm loathed to purchase a separate wind deflector or even the tinted Flyscreen from RE as others have reported that the wind is still and issue when these are added to the Meteor. I'm wearing an Arai RX-7V which is probably a silly choice of helmet for the Meteor given all the fins/flaps/vents so I think changing that could also dampen the noise. Thanks again for the support for the channel! 👍

Hi Steve many thanks for the comment and support. My Dad has a Mutt Mongrel 250, which I did actually review on this channel. The Meteor is a little bit faster than that but not much, most owners say they can run the Meteor at 70mph no problem. Similar to your CBR600 I also have a 600cc class sportsbike which is the Triumph Daytona 650, that is FAST and almost too dangerous on public roads. Totally understand where you are coming from. If you want to look at a Royal Enfield then the interceptor 650 is a twin with 47bhp it's punchy and pulls harder than the Meteor but nowhere near the CBR again that is reviewed on this channel so do take a look. Thanks for the subscribe, we are only a small channel and it really does keep the motivation up to make more videos! Sean

I have 350 Meteor. The fuel bar moves around on it when the tank is getting down, I think it is from the fuel splashing in the tank, when it goes to one bar it starts to blink, I go fill up, just to be safe it usually has about two gallons left, I have gone 400 miles, I bought the bike in June 2021 have not been on a long trip yet.

Hi Jerry, thanks for the comment here. Its in such a mild state of tune your not going to hurt it by going over 60mph!! Plus if you dont let them have it the bloody things wont loosen up properly!! When fully ran in they will hold 70 all day easy!!. And the extra momentum helps get up the hills lol. When fully ran in they love 60/65 and run super smooth when still tight they are bloody awful and feel so strained.

Hi Andrew, thanks for the comment. You'll have a lot better weather to run your bike in as mine was delivered in Novemeber! If you follow to the letter the guidelines then you're going to be going around 47mph max and this is quite slow for A roads. I did around 50-55mph on mine and had no problems. I hope you have nice weather for the rides and keep in mind the engine really loosens up after around 1000 miles. More fun 🙂

Agree about the screen - terrible buffeting at ear level makes for a miserable ride. What is the solution other than removing it like I have done? The Meteor is guaranteed to do 400km on a tank regardless of how driven, so ignore the hopeless fuel gauge, which is affected by hills and leaning and use one of your trips to judge fuel stops.
@MindfulMotorcyclist
@MindfulMotorcyclist 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Andrew, apologies for the late reply here. The buffeting is a pain isn't it, I had fitted a larger screen from Hitchcocks in order to try and reduce this effect and that didn't work either, but please have a look on this channel to see the results (anodically of course). I ended up running with no screen - Fireball mode I was calling it. This is undoubtable better as you get a light air rushing noise instead of a buffeting that sounds like storm waves crashing into a harbour wall 😂. The downside to Fireball mode is that there is more wind resistance into the body and this makes 70mph for longer periods a bit more challenging. Oh gosh, regarding the guage I did a 200 mile ride on the weekend, the fuel warning light came on and off around 3 times, I can't make head or tail of it. One time it went from one bar flashing to 3 bars (over half full). The trip as you say must be the only way to accurately work out when you need to top up. Thanks for the comment.
@andrewoh1663
@andrewoh1663 2 жыл бұрын
@@MindfulMotorcyclist I have made a couple of new mounting bars out of 10mm galv rod - bent to the same shape as the real ones. These are longer so I can raise the screen up a bit, but I haven't got around to testing the idea yet. It's summer here - hot and dry for months so the lack of screen isn't an issue, but when the winter comes I might change my mind. An advantage of removing the screen is that I can hunker down on the tank in headwinds and going up hills allowing me to hang on to higher gears for longer. Would a proper top half fairing look silly on a cruiser?

Hi Tim, we have E10 fuel which is 10% ethanol and lower octane, typically called 95 and then we have E5 which is 5% ethanol, premium fuel and is 98 octane. I have read and watched videos of long distance motorcycle rides. One subject comes up and that is the comfort of seat. What is your thought about the stock seat in the meteor?
@MindfulMotorcyclist
@MindfulMotorcyclist 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Robert, thanks for the question. This is a very interesting one. The touring seat is an optional extra which I have fitted. It is not much more comfortable than the standard Meteor seat in my opinion. Where it differs is that it looks a lot better (why I upgraded) and has increased support towards the rear of the seat. It is also a bit flatter so allows you to adjust and shuffle around in the seat which aids comfort. So the way it was described to me is 'For shorter journeys the standard seat is fine for anything over 1.5hrs the touring seat is better!'.

I have a meteor 350 fireball and I'm 6ft & 21 stone and the meteor seat is as comfortable a place to be as any of the 30plus bikes I've owned and better than most..especially considering the weight is firmly on the seat..I actually spaced the back of the front seat by 15mm as I tend to sit partially on the pillion seat and the height difference made it uncomfy at first..now it's 2-3 hours comfy easy!

Ps the touring seat although more supportive foam actually reduces the length of the seat so if you are tall and like the room then it will make it less comfy. The standard seat with a memory foam topper by a seat recoverer would be absolutely the way to go I think

That is funny, I did that also with my first bike (Kawasaki Ninja 650) I added levers, radiator guards, crash bobbins, tail tidy and an exhaust system and then sold it for a minor loss. I did swap the exhaust back to standard as the buyer (who was a dealer) said it was easier to sell on that type of bike WITHOUT a modified exhaust, the exhaust was an akropovic as well!
