I mention the things I love about the bike and also a couple of things which could be better !
Thanks for watching.
Be sure to check out my KZfaq channel EconomicalRides where I document my ownership experience from day one to the present day in various other videos.
Cheers, EconomicalRides.

Very detailed and polite review I have ever seen in KZfaq... Other reviewers used to go tempted while explaining pros and cons but you maintained the modulation even throughout... Seems very matured on the point you wanted to convey.. hatsoff for your effort.. love from India ❤️.. I own stellar red since Jan 2022!

Thanks Raajaa, those are very kind comments. That is my style actually, so I'm glad it came across that way 🙂 Last week I took delivery of my new RE Classic 350 and I will be doing similar long term coverage of that bike ( as well as further coverage of my Meteor of course ! ). Thank you for watching and for your lovely comment. Stay safe my friend. Cheers 👍🏻 ER.

There is another video on my channel where I compare both seats in GREAT DETAIL including all dimensions and everything which may be of relevant. Just look for my „Seat comparison video“. That is probably the most detailed comparison of two motorcycle seats available on the entire internet 😂😂😂 I‘m glad you find my videos helpful, that’s why I make them, to help others with their decisions regarding the Meteor. Thanks Dave, as you can see here, probably no bike is perfect but IMO the Meteor comes pretty damn close ( provided it meets your needs and you are not asking too much of it ). The Tripper thing is bound to get solved with an app update eventually. I'm going to brush off the surface rust from inside the exhaust as best I can and then rub WD40 into the whole area and that should take care of that too, at least for a fair while. I hope you can get a Meteor some day Dave and join in with the fun we are all having 😉 Take care Dave. Cheers. ER.

Absolutely spot on review! I've the same bike and concur. Looking forward to your seat review. I may look into a quality LED headlamp as the OEM is a bit underwhelming for night riding. I would gladly trade the tripper for a tacho. The included USB port makes phone/google maps use a cinch. It is a terrific fun ride. Take care and thanks for your review!

Thank you Michael ! The seat review may take a few weeks because I've been unable to get out in the past ten days due to bad weather and it doesn't look like improving any time soon. I really want to do a 2-3 hour ride with the standard seat before giving my verdict. So far I'm not noticing too much difference to be honest but I think the difference will become apparent after a longer ride. The video will definitely be coming though, as soon as I've done enough riding ! Totally agree, attaching your phone to the USB port and the handlebars gives you a far better navigation solution anyway, the Tripper pod is being let down badly by the current state of the app unfortunately. Stay safe Michael and thanks again for watching, commenting and supporting my channel ! Cheers. ER.

@@lowend5566 I can well believe that. I’ve only ridden once in the dark and found the standard headlight to be very good on high beam, more than adequate. But admittedly on dipped beam I would expect LED to do much better. I don’t normally ride in the dark but if that should change then an LED headlight would definitely be an upgrade worth having ! Hi BD. I'm glad you're looking forward to my next video, I am too ! I've been unable to get out and do any filming for two weeks now because of bad weather ! I literally haven't touched my bike in two weeks, apart from to make this video. But even that day, which was the only decent day we had in that whole time, after filming I had no time to go for a ride. Really missing riding at the moment ! Hopefully I can fill your waiting time with interesting new content soon BD. I can however assure you that the Meteor is worth the wait. Fingers crossed they take their time with yours and build you a good one which brings you trouble free smiles for many years to come ! Thanks as always for watching and commenting. Thanks very much Quinn Peaks Biker, I’m glad you found it interesting 👍 I think I covered everything I wanted to but it was a bit of a weird shoot. Because of bad weather, as soon as it let up, I had to rush out and film “some” video. I then had to hope that I had enough to cut something together with the voiceover which I would have to do later. It was all a bit trickier than it needed to be but when the weather is crap you have to improvise. I’m happy enough with the end product and it seems to have been well received, so definitely worth the effort in the end ! Thanks for your support Quinn Peaks Biker, it means a lot to me ! Stay safe. Thanks IK, really glad you appreciated it. Overall, based on my experience ( the Meteor now has 5000+ km on it ) I would unreservedly recommend the Meteor to anybody thinking of buying one. It has been perfect, not having a single issue in the first 5000 km is amazing and it just feels as though the bike will get me anywhere I need to go. It just feels so solid and dependable, very well put together. I don't expect that to change any time soon ! The fuel economy is excellent too. I have already managed to do over 500 km with a tankful of fuel and regularly do 400 km before I start looking for a petrol station. Stay safe IK and thank you for watching ! Cheers, ER.

Another good video ER. Fully concur with your views on the Meteor, think you made the right decision in buying the Meteor. I used to have the Himalayan, great bike but also had its foibles however at its price point still represents excellent value. However, I struggled with the uncomfortable seat, seat height and the high centre of gravity which made it difficult to move around in the shed etc, once on the move its fine. I'm a 32" inseam by the way so 2"" more than you. The Meteor is far more comfortable in stock form also and a more relaxed ride, I don't regret making the change. I find the standard hand rails difficult to grip to get the bike on the centre stand however for £7.00 (UK) Hitchcocks at Solihull supply a bespoke handle for the purpose and it's an easy fit onto the shock absorber, recommend it for anyone who struggles. Look forward to your follow on videos, thanks.👍

@economicalrides
@economicalrides 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Allan, thanks for the compliments, I appreciate them. I have now done nearly 6000km on the Meteor without an issue and last weekend I even took it off-road ( check out the trailer "Hell Road" on my Channel for further details ). The bike is incredible, I just can't say enough good things about it. Regular rubbings with WD-40 are keeping the interior exhaust rust at bay so the only real complaint remains the Tripper app, which hopefully RE will improve soon. So mechanically I have zero complaints but do bear in mind that I don't generally ride in rain and salt. In the UK a fair few people are having the catalytic converter rusting quite badly ( it sits just under the engine and obviously gets all of the muck thrown at it when it's wet outside ). If you keep the bike clean and dry it looks as though there are no issues to worry about ! The fly screen is the official Royal Enfield "Tinted Fly Screen" accessory, your dealer should be able to order one or you will probably find one on the bay of e if he can't get one. I think it really suits the bike, it just finishes it off for me. It also keeps the dead insects off the clocks and cables which can otherwise be a real pain to wash off. So worth having if you like to keep your bikes nice and pristine too ! Hope this helps. Cheers Allan, ER.

Hi again RS, yes, in a later video I do say that the issue is easily alleviated by rubbing it with WD 40. It then looks black again and never gets any worse. It does need repeating from time to time but I just wipe it again every time I wash the bike and it’s fine. I can wholeheartedly recommend the Meteor, it really is an amazing all rounder and so enjoyable to ride. I now have 6000 km on mine without a single issue and will be taking it in for the 12 month service next month ! Cheers RS, let me know if you do finally get a Meteor, I think you should 😉 All the best,, ER.

hello again E R i watched every minute.i always enjoy your videos. i got my brown meteor two weeks this coming tuesday. i have completed 100 miles as the weather at times has been mucky. also we live in a farming area and so roads are mucky too. you and other viewers may be interested i fitted an optimate cable to the battery,with the plug in end cable tied by the rear footrest bracket. i always use optimate over the winter if unable to use bike for a few weeks. i did have a couple of false neutrals but think my size 10 heels were to blame not positioning my left foot correctly. keep up the good work.

Thanks John for watching and commenting. Glad you enjoyed my latest “production” which I managed to film on the one day that we’ve had in the past ten days where it wasn’t raining or blowing a gale ! I’m glad that you’re out there in all conditions enjoying your Meteor John, that’s the spirit, top man ! Yes, I too have an Optimate cable on my bike and I think for the winter a battery tender is absolutely essential, whether the battery is on or off the bike, although on the bike charging is far more convenient because it enables you to get out on the bike straight away, should an unexpected beautiful day suddenly appear. Judging from what I’ve heard from Himalayan owners, the batteries RE fits are not the best and don’t cope very well with lack of use, so all the more reason to keep them on a charger IMO ! I think a few people struggle with foot placement on the shifter, you need to be careful not to preload the gearbox. If you do, as soon as you shut off the throttle, you could end up shifting gear unintentionally. Since I have petite feet I’ve always managed to put them where they need to be and have never had a problem 😇 Thanks for your lovely comment John and I really hope you get some decent weather to get the next 200 miles and the first service out of the way asap. Good luck and stay safe. Cheers 👍 ER.

@economicalrides 2 жыл бұрын
😛 Ruby says Hi ! Yes, the Indian version of the app already sounds pretty good, so hopefully it will arrive here eventually. I don't doubt that that particular con will soon disappear. The rust in the exhaust is slightly offensive to my OCD bike condition condition but I will just whack a load of WD40 in there and hope for the best ! So overall, there are no cons which are likely to be of a permanent nature. Thanks for watching SB ! I really struggled to get this video out. We had one day in the past 10 days when it wasn't either raining or blowing a gale. As soon as I had my weather window, I dropped everything, got the bike out of the garage and started filming. @@economicalrides we have a weather window today; we'll have 50 deg F or 10 deg C today. Later this week, on Wed or Thu, we'll have 58-59 deg F, or almost 15 C!; for this time of year, that's warm here in Pennsylvania! I not only want to enjoy my Meteor; I want to burn off some fuel, so I can put regular in it. Since the manual stipulates 91 RON fuel, I was putting 91 octane, or premium, in it. I'd FORGOTTEN that, here in the US, we use Anti Knock Index, not RON-duh! We always seem to do things different here on our side of the pond... The AKI averages both the RON and MON together, and that is the AKI used here in the US; the formula is (R+M)/2. Anyway, 91 RON is equivalent to what's 87 octane here, as computed on the AKI. 87 octane is regular grade fuel, which is substantially cheaper; it's over $0.50 per gallon cheaper. If I were to fill the whole tank, I'd save $2; since I never let the tank go empty, my saving per fill up will be less. Even so, those savings will add up over time. Plus, I think that the low compression engine will run better with regular. I'm anxious to see how it runs when it has regular in the tank, as it'll burn sooner and quicker vs. the premium fuel I'd put in it, i.e. is better matched to the engine's compression.

@@markymarknj OK. Found this one too now ! Great weather here this week too, would love to get out and film but too much work on at the moment. Never mind. I'm sure the weather will turn to sh*t in time for the weekend ! It sounds like I'd need a pocket calculator to figure out which pump to use in the States 😂 Here I have a simple choice of 95 or 98 octane but since hardly anybody buys 98 octane, more often than not the 98 octane pumps are out of action and 95 is your only option. Next time I am feeling financially liquid and I need to fill the Meteor up, I am going to try him on 98 octane and see if it makes a difference. Others have said the engine feels smoother on 98 octane, so I'd be interested to try it out. Make sure you get out there and enjoy that weather while it lasts Mark ! Cheers 👍 ER.

@@markymarknj don't forget America uses corn syrup ethanol in our regular 87 etc.. I run that exclusively in my cars and trucks only. My Bikes and all small engines get a steady diet of Premium Non-Oxy (no corn). It gums up hoses, jets and tanks
@markymarknj
@markymarknj 2 жыл бұрын
@@andyostertag see, I always did the opposite. I run premium in my car, as it has a 10+/1 compression ratio that's not regular friendly. I always ran regular in my small engines, since they're low compression; they derive no benefit from higher octane fuel. As for my bikes, it depended on what the compression was on them. On my ZRX, I ran premium. On my Meteor, I've run regular in it. Oh and BTW, there's only ONE non-ethanol gas station in my area, and it's like 20-30 minutes away. Thanks to the EPA, I'm afraid that we're stuck with ethanol. As for how ethanol can damage stuff, trust me, I know; I've EXPERIENCED it! My W650 had a messed up carb jet on it. I had to run a bottle or two of Seafoam through it, letting it idle for a long time, to clear that out. I've had to have carbs rebuilt on other bikes-again, thanks to ethanol damage. Thankfully, modern, EFI equipped bikes like the Meteor are designed and built to handle ethanol. Also, since they also operate them in India, I'm sure that they're designed for low grade/low quality fuel. Anyway, my Meteor runs better on regular than on premium; with 9.5/1 compression, premium won't do anything for me.

Brilliant video ER. I have heard from a few that the exhaust gets rust a bit too quickly. The chrome exhaust on the stellas and supernovas seem to have it even more. And the tripper nav, again yes it needs a update. That could be a deal breaker for some people.

Thanks again ER ! Actually there is a follow up video to this review coming out tonight or tomorrow. I forgot to mention one of the most important things about the Meteor 🤐 But anybody taking in BOTH videos should get a very good idea of what the Meteor is all about, which is basically what I am trying to achieve here. I do have a satisfactory solution ( for now ) for the exhaust rust on my bike, which also gets a brief mention in my next video. I already have a couple of channel members who are upgrading their chrome silencers to stainless ones, which are available from India. As you say, they don't seem to be holding up too well to UK weather. I'm hopeful that my exhaust will be ok, since I am a softy and no longer ride when it's wet out 😝 Thanks again for watching and commenting ER. @economicalrides
@economicalrides 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Gerald. Yep, I mentioned in the video that I’ve adjusted the chain just the once so far. We need to stay on top of the silencer corrosion issue too. The chrome exhausts are suffering and my black one isn’t fairing too well. Considering the quality of the rest of the bike, I think RE’s exhaust supplier is providing silencers with coatings less durable than RE has specified. I think RE needs to know about these problems and have words with this supplier. I can see a load of silencers being replaced under warranty at this rate and that would be a real shame for RE, who are clearly striving for top notch quality in their products. From what I’m hearing, only the silencer is letting down the rest of the bike at the moment ! So let’s collect the data and keep on top of this issue Gerald. If a clear trend emerges, we need to make a noise about this one. I enjoy your channel too by the way, so keep up the good work buddy ! I struggled to get this video done too. I had one dry afternoon in ten days so stopped everything I was doing, got the bike out and started filming. I had no time to come up with a script for the audio, so just recorded the video and did the voiceover later. It made for a time consuming edit but I think in the end it was worth it. I feel your pain though. KZfaq is hard work ! Stay safe Gerald. Cheers 👍 ER.

I first found this channel like a day after the first video was posted, when you rolled it out the first time. I thought to myself: well, he's all happy now, let's hope the reviews don't progressively get more and more negative over time, and fortunately they didn't. Not crazy about that rusting issue though, it suggests that what some RE critics say might actually be true. In any case, I couldn't imagine a better bike for back-road adventures if I designed it myself (although I'd rather have a more powerful front brake, being one of those guys who prefers not to use the rear brake, but this is minor). So glad your experience is turning out to be a good one , and as for me, if I can ever get myself to where I need to be in order to enjoy it (I hate and boycott city riding), I'll be sure to buy one as a first order of business.
@economicalrides
@economicalrides 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for commenting Jack. When I started the channel I always intended to mention both the good and the bad because of course everybody is going to big up the bike they own just because they went out and bought it. It's easy to fall into the trap of trying to convince yourself that you didn't make a mistake by telling everybody that your bike is perfect. I realise that those kinds of reviews are pretty pointless to anybody actually looking to garner some actual information about a specific model. So as far as I am aware, I've always been honest about my ownership experience and will continue to be so. No bike is perfect and I have no issue with pointing out the things which disappoint me slightly. If my Meteor ever breaks down or needs any warranty work done to it, I will of course mention it here. This is important information for somebody thinking of buying a Meteor. Re the rust. I'm going to go at it with a toothbrush and then smear WD40 around the whole area. I think that should clean it up pretty well and hopefully stop it happening again. It would be a cheap and easy fix if it works. And the Tripper just needs an update to the app before it becomes truly useful. No doubt that will happen at some point in the near future. When it does I will report back on the update here. Thanks for watching and commenting Jack. So is the plan to move out of the city at some point and then start your own personal Meteor journey ? If so, I hope things fall into place for you and you can make it happen soon. Until then, feel free to share my Meteor journey with me on this channel ( as you have done from the start - such endurance - hats off to you ! ). Thanks Jack, stay safe and good luck with everything ! Cheers. 👍🏻 ER.

Hi Hejakma, Thank you ! As far as I can tell, that is actually the case. I think the black painted silencers are more prone to the internal rust. However my Meteor now has 6000 km on it and the regular wiping with WD 40 has ensured that the silencer now looks nice and black and it is preventing the rust from becoming a problem. They didn't blow all of their hard work by giving some parts a shoddy finish. It really looks as though care went into every single visible part of the motorcycle and yet somehow it still came in at a very reasonable price point. RE deserve huge credit for the effort that went into creating the Meteor, they clearly created it with a lot of care. The massive success the model is having globally will hopefully convince them to continue working in this way with all future models. Great videos ER. I have a yellow fireball which I've had since september when it was 10 weeks old and had done 360 miles. The previous owner couldn't get on with the riding position. The biggest fault in my view is the fuel gauge when I've done around 160 miles, drops to one bar and then tells you how far you've been since it came on. I don't need to know this, I need to know how far I've got to go. I set one of the trips to zero when I fill up but this is taken over with the count-up leaving me with no reference point. I reckon 250 to 300 miles should be about right on a fuel tank. I am currently sorting out luggage (rack and panniers) to make longer journeys more pracitical. I might also fit less extreme bars as I find them cumbersome in traffic but not sure what ones yet. It's a lovely bike though and delightful to ride.
@economicalrides
@economicalrides 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks John, I’m glad you are appreciating my videos 🙏 Yes, the fuel gauge is inaccurate but that’s the case with many motorcycle fuel gauges. That forces us to use the odometer to know when to fill up and I quite agree, it is annoying that the F odometer keeps putting itself in the foreground. I am forever hitting the trip button to get my range odo back when the fuel is low, that is a fair point. The F odo is often more of an inconvenience than a help ! I’ve mentioned in many videos that unless you are riding on the motorway, it should always be possible to do 400 km on a tankful. I think 250 miles should never be a problem, bearing in mind that I have managed to achieve over 300 miles with normal riding. I think you should be looking to fill up from 240 miles or so. In my experience, when the fuel gauge stays stuck at one bar and the fuel light stays on permanently, you still have 100 km or 60 miles worth of fuel in the tank. You start to get a feel for the remaining range after a while. Always bear in mind that it’s a 15L tank and observe how much fuel the tank takes when you fill up. In my case, when I was already panicking and looking for a petrol station, it usually turned out that I had about 3.5 litres left in the tank. That equates to near enough 60 miles of range ! I’m looking for some temporary luggage myself, something which doesn’t require fitting frames to the bike. Still struggling to find anything suitable unfortunately ! I just want some bags to throw on whenever I want to get some shopping in or have stuff to transport. I wouldn’t want the luggage to be on the bike all of the time, only whenever I need it. I’m glad you are enjoying your Meteor, I hope to get back to enjoying mine as soon as the weather improves. great thanks drill a small hole at the front of the silencer at the top. put 2 stroke oil in an old fashion oilcan with the bike hot and running, squirt several pump strokes of oil in, give it a rev to blow out any excess oil and take it for a ride. done monthly it keeps the rust away. 2 stroke oil in the petrol clogs the catalytic converter, hence directly into the exhaust post cat works best

Thanks Roy, actually, six months later, the exhaust is pretty much back to black. I just spray WD40 onto a rag and wipe it around the inside, as far as I can reach, every time I wash the bike. Seems to do the job aesthetically at least, although I appreciate that your solution would absolutely stop the exhaust rusting through from the inside outwards. Hi Jim, yes, I’ve recommended doing that to others who have had it a lot worse than I have. In my case, just rubbing WD40 in there with an old rag brings it back to black and also stops it getting any worse. I just need to repeat it from time to time. I usually do it after I’ve finished washing the bike. Thanks for your suggestions. It’s a shame the visible inside part of the exhaust isn’t painted black by the factory because you will inevitably get some condensation there and obviously bare steel will go rusty almost immediately in that environment. on the subject of the tripper navigation, as an old luddite, i neither have or need a smart phone, an old flip phone suites my needs, so the tripper is a waste of space, i thought it would be ok as a clock but it seems you also have to use a smart phone to get the thing going so that's a non starter as well, i get my supernover in two weeks time so we'll see how good the thing is, it will only get used on dry days as my other bikes do so it should see me out as far as motorcycling goes anyway, a very informative video, thank you.

Thanks Stephen, I‘m glad that you found this useful, that’s why I make videos, to help others ! You make a good point about needing to use the app to set the Tripper clock, that is pretty daft for people without smartphones. If you have some sort of tablet ( yes, I know, but maybe Luddites do have tablets ? ) you can install the app on that and set everything up. Fortunately there is also a digital clock in the speedo which you CAN set manually, so at least you’ll have that ! Great for exploring new roads and simply enjoying being out on a bike. So cheap to run too ! I can usually manage three or four Sunday rides on one tankful and not having to fill up always puts a smile on my tight face 😂 Good luck with your new Meteor Stephen, I’m sure it will be great 👍 I have a cheap luggage option to fit to mine as soon as the slow boat from China ( with the appropriate bolts ) arrives in Spain, so might be worth checking out when the videos go up in a month or so. @@economicalrides hi and thanks for your swift reply, i thought by the weather on your video that you were somewhere warmer than the uk, the forecast for here according to google is snow just after i get my supernova so i may not pick it up on the 21st wich is a shame because it's a birthday present to myself, hay ho., i have ridden the stella demo bike a couple of times which led me to order the supanova, a few things i noticed whilst out on the demo was the fuel light which seems to have a mind of its own when traveling up hills, the inbuilt clock on the speedo i never noticed but that's good so i won't have to fit a manual one then, the rear suspension was a bit sharp on quick bumps and nearly put my back out, the thing i was most affraid of was the lack of power as opposed to my other bikes but i suppose it's a thing you have to adjust to, the main reason i bought one was the riding position, being past the three score year and ten age and having up and down movement issues with my neck most other bikes give me pain trying to hold my head up to see where i'm going but i don't have that so much with the meteor so it's more or less perfect for me in that respect, i do have a tablet but i don't think i'll be bothering with the tripper, i'll probably just blank out the face so the brightly lit face ( according to some reports ) dosen't distract me if i ever ride in the dark, which is doubtfull, anyway i have heard the lights are pretty poor without changing the bulb, i will, as is my usual thing pull the callipers apart and lube all the parts that don't get any grease on them during production which i did on my interceptor and so far iv'e not had to have the recall done for the callipers which i suppose i'll get around to eventually, all the best and keep safe.

Is your Tripper behaving differently or are you finding the black background too bright too ? I’ve ridden in the dark and found the pod’s night mode to be perfectly ok. Just wondering whether yours might have a defective light sensor or something. I don’t find the mode with the black background distracting at all. I usually fill up with 95 octane but will give 98 a go next time I fill up. Thank you for the very detailed review. I'm thinking of getting a 350 as well. Love the look of the bike. Took one out for a test ride last weekend and it really seems to fit my riding style so I think there's a Meteor in my near future! A couple of questions: - Those tank pads look great. Which brand are they? - I really like the yellow stripe accent on the tyre of the meteor and how well it ties with the colour scheme of the fireball. But when I was at the dealer I checked it and saw it was a sticker. While it seems pretty solidly attached, given the position and the constant exposure it's going to have to water, dirt, washing products, etc, do you have any concerns about it starting to degrade and peel off in the future? I wouldn't be too surprised if it gets damaged during a tyre change either.
@economicalrides
@economicalrides 2 жыл бұрын
Hello Jorge, thanks for watching. There is a link to the tank pads ( eBay ) in the video description. They came from India. Regarding the rim stickers, they seem to be pretty durable. Loads of sports bikes come with rim tape and they don't seem to have a problem with it tearing or falling off. Obviously it depends on the type of weather and conditions you ride in, but if you just ride on surfaced roads when it is nice and dry ( like I do ) then the rim tape should last a very long time. Also expect it to degrade more quickly if you leave the bike parked outside in the elements. If you keep your bike in a garage and are careful when cleaning this area I don't think there will be a problem. And as you say, when changing tyres, whoever does it will have to protect them in some way ! The rim tape in the correct colour is also available as a spare part, should you ever need to replace it. For the front wheel the part number is : SKU: RAJ00177/C For the rear wheel the part number is : SKU: RAT00200/C I hope this helps. If you have any further questions, please get back to me ! @economicalrides
@economicalrides 2 жыл бұрын
Hi again Allan, check my channel, maybe subscribe if you haven't already. I already have a video with my first comparisons but because of consistent rain I have only managed about 800km on the new Classic so far, so all comparisons are to be taken with a pinch of salt. To summarise : The Classic probably offers taller riders more leg room, the gear lever is not ideal, water seems to get inside the instruments if you are not very careful, no gear indicator ( which the Meteor has ), no Tripper ( which the Meteor has ), it looks stunning, particularly the chrome versions. But check out my videos on the subject and stay tuned to the channel because more comparisons will be incoming as soon as I get more acquainted to the Classic. If I could only afford one bike, I would currently recommend the Meteor. I think that overall it is just the better package. But only if it fits your body shape. Taller riders might find it too cramped. In that case I would still recommend the Classic as a very nice motorcycle. Beyond that it comes down to taste really. Some people only want a classic looking bike, others prefer cruisers, some hate cruisers. Fortunately RE gives us the choice. If you have any further questions, feel free to ask and I will get back to you ! Cheers, ER.

Have they been spotted bombing about on the "Meteor" 650 twin over there ? I think that bike looks awesome with the blacked out pipe running down each side and the fatter rear tyre and mudguard ! Hi, do you wax or polish the tank? At what point do you fill the tank once Trip F kicks in ?
@economicalrides
@economicalrides Жыл бұрын
Hi Rohan, well in the manual it tells you not to, which I find very strange ! I do ! I use what they call "finishing spray". It is a bottle of clear spray on wax, which you just spray on and wipe off. It's really easy to use and it leaves no white residue, it's brilliant stuff. The paintwork still feels smooth to the touch and water droplets form on it when it gets wet. Just spray on and wipe off once you've washed and dried the bike. I always think having some wax on the paint makes it easier to remove dirt and bugs, personally. On the Meteor, once the fuel warning comes on AND STAYS ON ( it flashes on and off quite a lot before it stays on permanently ), I would estimate that you have about 100km to find a fuel station. Obviously I would stop at the first one I find but in an emergency I estimate that you SHOULD be able to ride about 100km with the fuel warning on. That is riding gently. If you are doing 100kph on a fast road, that would probably drop down to 60-70km. I hope this helps. Cheers Rohan, ER.

Couple of questions from a new owner: 1) I’m noticing very short gear ranges: 12-18-28-37-45 mph without over revving the engine. Normal and did it open up over time? 2) The fuel injection noise is loud in my brand new meteor. Can hear it even after engine start.
@economicalrides
@economicalrides 2 жыл бұрын
Regarding the gears I usually only use fifth once I hit 70 kmh. Since where I ride is rarely flat and straight I tend to only use third and fourth gears, fifth gear is really only on option on straight fast roads. The speeds per gear recommended in the manual for running in are unrealistic here in the west. When running in I just tried to be sympathetic and did max 50mph in fifth, maybe 55mph briefly. Regarding the FI, you can hear my engine running in this video. You can usually hear the pump on any bike but I don’t know how loud yours is. Just compare it to mine and if you think it is significantly louder then mention it to your dealer at the next service, it might be a dodgy fuel pump. I hope this helps. If not, just get back to me ! Cheers DD. Well I used to have a Bullet 500 with four speeds and twin drum brakes, which taught me that the front brake was merely for coming to a complete halt. Otherwise use engine braking and the rear brake for regulating speed. I tend to view the Meteor the same way and have no problems. I’ve also done a full brake power ( both brakes) emergency stop and I felt that the bike pulled up sharply enough. What are you doing travelling in the high 60s anyway ? Still trying to snatch that lap record back ? 😉 The brakes are adequate, I found it hard to say more than that, ‘tis true. As you say, it wouldn’t hurt if RE could offer a twin disc upgrade for those who deem it necessary. You know, like those TT legends out there ! I’m constantly trying to overcome my urges to worry about the bike’s condition and concentrate on riding the darn thing. To be honest I'm surprised there hasn't been more comment made about this. I mean, I am only 5'9" and because of the extremely low seat height, I am already starting ( but only just ) to feel slightly cramped on the bike because the foot pegs are neither far below me nor far in front of me. I feel as though my thighs and knees are very high. It's ok for me but I am fairly short. I'm surprised RE hasn't come up with a solution for taller riders. Do you think you'd be ok with a "high seat" option ? I think that would make the bike accessible to taller riders and also those shorter riders who get hip pain when their thighs are too high ( like my Dad ). I think a high seat option might be something RE could look into. Also maybe a single seat option, to give taller riders the option to move back on the seat further away from the foot pegs would be helpful. If you could sit further back, the low seat height wouldn't be such a problem, you could stretch your legs out more and get comfortable. As I said, I'm surprised there hasn't been more noise made about this, I often wondered how a taller rider than myself is expected to fit comfortably on this bike ! If there are any mods which come out for taller riders, I'll be sure to mention it here ! My only complaint is the Tripper, it's worse than useless. @@economicalrides Just a side note. Here in NSW it's illegal and a licence losing offence to use a mobile phone while you're riding, and technically that includes the Tripper system. You can even get pinged if you sitting on your bike with the motor running while parked and you look at your phone. However, it's ok to use a dedicated nav system on your handlebars. NSW, the "no fun" state.

@@lowend5566 Unfortunately the current state of the Tripper app would easily get you into trouble because you’d be constantly stopping, getting your phone out, restarting the app, reconnecting the app to the bike and restarting the navigation ! If the app worked well enough that you could just start it and then put your phone away and leave it put away, the Tripper pod COULD BE viewed as a dedicated navigation device, since that’s all it does. But if you are constantly having to get your phone out to keep it going, less so ! If the app ever receives a worthwhile update, I will mention it in a future video. Thanks for watching and commenting, enjoy your bike. Here in the northern hemisphere we are currently huddled around our fires trying to keep warm ! Very few riding opportunities here at the moment ! Stay safe ! Cheers, ER.

Grahame, I wish the Tripper defaulted to a compass; at least that would be a USEFUL navigation aid! I don't need another clock when the speedo already has one. I could also do with a rev counter in place of the Tripper.

Do you use E5 or E10 petrol?
@economicalrides
@economicalrides 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Michael, in 2021 I was using super 95 E5 but since 2022 I am still using super 95 but it is now only available as E10. For E5 I would have to buy 98 octane but that’s not available everywhere, so these days I just tank 95 E10. I can’t really say that I notice much difference, just cruising around to be honest. I hope this helps 👍 Cheers, ER.

@@economicalrides Thanks for the reply. It has been reported that E10 produces less power than E10 which affects performance and fuel economy. Nice to know you didn't notice these things.
@economicalrides
@economicalrides 2 жыл бұрын
@@michaelpearshouse1100 No, I can't say that I notice any difference. Before the E10 thing people were saying that the Meteor felt much smoother on 98 octane than on 95 octane and I was always intending to try that out for a tankful but never got around to it. It is definitely something I will do this year though, since the 98 is still E5. Once the fuel prices drop back to more normal levels I will give 98 E5 a go, probably in the Meteor since that bike is fully run in and I can give it more beans 😛 In general I think you will notice the performance drop ( if there is one ) much less on bikes which produce less power. If E10 causes the engine to make x% less power then obviously the less horses your engine makes, the less you are going to lose, so it will be harder to notice. I will do a 98 E5 test with the Meteor some time before the summer, hopefully, weather permitting. So stay tuned and I'l let you know if it is worth doing. The Meteor is so economical that the extra you pay for 98 octane over 95 octane in an entire riding season is probably not worth worrying about ( once the prices get back to normal that is ! ). Only problem for me is that many petrol stations don't buy in 98 octane any more, since everybody here is too tight to use it. So often the 98 octane pump is out of service, I can't get it everywhere unfortunately. Cheers, ER.

I didn't like the tripper navigation device. I mean, why an extra device with a stripped down monitor from the smartphone in my poket? Maybe it's good for ppl who dosen't want a Smartphone on the handlebars. I plan to replace it with a rev counter. As soon as my Meteor arrives I will look if it's possible.
@economicalrides
@economicalrides 2 жыл бұрын
Yep, that's pretty much the only advantage of the Tripper, the fact that IN THEORY you can leave your phone in your pocket ( but that poses the question, how can you then charge your phone at the same time ? ). I say IN THEORY because in practice you constantly need to stop and get your phone out anyway to restart the app every time it loses the internet connection ! Like you, I struggle to see the point of it. Smartphone mounts for bikes are cheap enough and the chances are you will hang your phone on the USB port anyway so why not just mount the phone to the bike and have done with it. Having said all that, if the app were better I would try to use the Tripper more just to see how I get on with it. At the moment though it is just too frustrating and too unreliable to use. I also agree. A rev counter would be niiiiiiiice and more in keeping with the vintage style too ! Thanks seamon84. Stay safe. Cheers 👍🏻 ER

Awesome Kevin !!! That’s what I‘m here for ! 😂😂😂 Be sure to check out my channel. I just hit 5000 km today and I‘ve documented my whole experience from day one to now on my channel. Still haven’t found anything much to be unhappy about. So far the Meteor has been the best smile per mile bike I‘ve ever owned. Very cheap to buy and run too ! If the bike fits you I can honestly say „why spend more ?“. For the pure enjoyment of motorcycling the Meteor delivers completely. It’s exactly enough bike without being too much. For most people, surprisingly, 350 cc can get the job done 90% of the time. For the 10% you are missing, buy another second hand bike for small money. A 350 really is enough to be your go to bike in most situations. Plus it is so much easier to deal with, heave about and maintain yourself in the future. Honestly, why pay more for the more you will only ever need 10% of the time ? I say, trust your Instincts Kevin 😉 And you are not alone. Every time I park the bike somewhere people come up to me and start asking me about it. I think I‘ve managed to sell at least three so far ! Not mentioning the ten or so I‘ve sold through the videos on my channel ! If you are just interested in the pure joy of being out in nature on two wheels from time to time then the Meteor is pretty hard to beat as a value and enjoyment proposition ! Thanks for watching and giving me your feedback Kevin. Check out some of my other videos if you are interested in the Meteor and if you still have questions about the bike, feel free to post them here, I will reply ! Cheers 👍 ER.

@@economicalrides Thanks, it's been a long trek. I must have watched hundreds of hours of KZfaq - mainly due to the long winter. I'm parting with my Piaggio BV 350 today. I had it only a year, and while it's a fast and capable scooter, my wife and I want to try a real motorcycle again. I think something is missing from riding the Piaggio - in all likelihood it's a more practical machine, but I would not say it puts a smile on my face. The Meteor should do everything the scooter could do - will need to get some decent looking saddlebags - sorry having a scooter with all the built-in storage is hard to give up ;)

@@mattlorenzi5606 Surprisingly similar story to mine Matt. I sold all of my bikes for the practicality of a Honda Silver Wing maxi-scooter. It was so practical, perfect weather protection, loads of space for shopping and plenty quick enough to cover long distances on the motorway. I really enjoyed it and it was just so practical. But it wasn’t giving me the pleasure that riding a motorcycle does. Around the time when I was starting to realise this and had begun saving for a Himalayan, the Meteor was announced. I traded in the Honda and bought the Meteor as soon as my dealer could get one. Best decision ever, although when I’m older, I can still see me finding space in my life for another largish scooter 🛵 In reality we need both 😛 I’m sure you won’t regret the decision. For all of their practicality, scooters just don’t give you the same feelings that a motorcycle can. I think you made the right choice Matt ! Cheers, ER.

@@economicalrides For practicality purposes we still have a 150cc Piaggio. That one does plenty good for in the city - and is in fact more suited for city driving than the 350. I hope EV technology will advance enough so that I could see getting a proper electric scooter down the road.
