I did four auditions for Better Call Saul (from Texas) and didn't book a single one. I asked my agent (Pastorini-Bosby) what I was doing wrong and they said, "Nothing, they have to see you twenty times before they will book you. They wouldn't keep calling you back if they didn't like you."

You've honestly inspired me to give acting a shot. I have always dreamed of one day being on the big screen and helping these great stories and characters be given life but I always thought I either didn't look good enough or just simply wouldn't fit any roles. But you've made me want to give it another shot! Thanks for being down to earth with us about this stuff, it really makes the dream of becoming a professional actor seem closer than ever before! ps: loved your work in stranger things, you have great talent and I wouldn't be surprised if I started seeing you getting some lead roles in other movies and series soon :D

This makes me so happy to hear as this is my entire intention of videos like this! Truly every singles actor version of the craft is different purely as they filter everything through their own perspective. So you will always have an interesting take if you honor your perspective of it. This issue is too many actors trying to become something they’re not. So keep leaning into yourself and I believe you’ll find your voice. ☺️

This advice is gold. 💫 I especially like what you said about type casting. So many actors obsess over wanting to show their acting range and are offended by being put in a specific character type consistently. I even used to be irritated by that. It’s very true what you said, though. Having a casting director immediately think of you for certain casting breakdowns is a huge advantage when you really hone in on that. Thanks for sharing!! 🙏🏽

I'm only 3 minutes into this video so far, and it's already such a well crafted video! I really love the differences you point out about the idea of acting, and the craft of it. I really like looking at the difference between "acting" as a character, and "being" the character. (Literally after I typed that, I continued with the video and you just explained what I said in my comment! Haha) I've been creating fan films on my KZfaq channel ever since 2020, and I've learnt so much about acting and have had a while to really practice and improve. So whenever I start looking into the acting agency process, at least I've got SOME little experience behind my back. But watching this video, if auditions get declined and what not, I'll definitely remember this video man. Such good explanations. And dude, the way you portrayed 002 was fantastic, you'll get so many more roles in the future I know it!

This is really great advice, thank you! I agree that typecasting is super helpful, but it's also sth. that I'm still struggling with even though I have already booked two classes regarding this topic and have surveyed people how they see me. I always get a lot of different and partially conflicting answers. That's why I'm wondering how you arrived at your type and brand? Did you just make a decision and pick these adjectives based on what you enjoy most and what you feel comes most natural to you or is that based on recurring feedback you got from casting directors/agents/teachers? I’m currently only getting opportunities for commercials as the happy/friendly mom/wife/business professional. Anyway, I really appreciate you passing on what you’ve learned on your journey and I wish you lots of success with your upcoming projects!

I do!! I actually go pretty in-depth about this in my Your Honor Audition Redemption video! Specifically at 3:51 of that video. It’s specifically about identifying the cause of it. It’s either A) you’re not allowing yourself to fully commit to the scene B) you’re letting your nerves override the scene instead of adding to it C) you’re too attached to coming across as likable and so your brain subconsciously smiles as that’s the most likable way of self-presenting There are different solutions depending on which of those three it is.

I'm not an actor, but as a viewer I wholeheartedly support your stance to fight the "bobble-head disease" of delivering lines with over-exaggerated head or body movements. Sonequa Martin-Green did that so much in the early Star Trek Discovery seasons to accentuate the gravity of the dialogue and it got so distracting (and annoying) to me that I almost couldn’t continue to watch it. I read somewhere that this was what the director wanted, so it's probably not her fault. But still a bad decision, IMHO.

How would i start off in a country like Ireland a distant one that doesn't really do that sort of stuff ?
@TristanSpohnAKASpiderman4 ай бұрын
Great question!! My editor, Jamie Barclay, is actually from Ireland! I would actually recommend researching some of Barry Keoghan's career. He's at least the first Irish actor I thought of that is having a TON of mainstream success right now. I will say this...there are a couple of big projects coming to Ireland in 2024. But, I would say, similar to what I said in this video, find ways to start filming yourself to at least start practicing and training your craft and see how it translates to a camera. One thing I could've mentioned in the video is FaceBook actually has a lot of valuable film communities you could join where filmmakers will post casting and crew calls. Try to join a class either virtually or in-person to build a community of other creatives that could film things with you. And then once you have some footage and a great headshot that communicates the character type that best fits you, you can go on IMDB Pro to do a search of local talent agents and managers in your area you could submit your materials to. I hope this helps in addition to the video!

Reminds me of how I approached my audition for James Potter in Harry Potter on Max. I didn't go for just pretending I'm talking to my son, but talking to my son Harry, like he's in front of me. Having different headshots is an eye-opener, which methinks now is what my agent wants from me.
@TristanSpohnAKASpiderman2 ай бұрын
Yes nothing is more important than the relationship to who we are talking to. And the more specific the headshot, the easier an agent can market you for a specific role. ☺️
@jaycemcqueen3063 ай бұрын
Hey man, loved hating you in stranger things! I’ve got another channel under the name “Jayce Sifre” where I’ve been making short films and such since I was 14, 18 now. I’ve edited together an acting reel and have headshots, just wondering how you go about making money while doing the passion. I only do part time but it’s not enough to where I’d be comfortable paying for an agent at the moment. Kind of a silly problem but just some complicated life stuff. On another note, hopefully we’ll work together one day!
@TristanSpohnAKASpiderman3 ай бұрын
Hey thank you Jayce! I’ll have to check some of your stuff out! First major note is you do NOT pay for an agent. If an agent is trying to have you pay them directly, it’s a scam. They take a percentage of work you book with them. Typically 10-15%. Outside of an agent sending you professional opportunities, you can mainly use Actors Access to find professional paying work. There are also some FaceBook groups you can join for even more localized stuff. But Actors Access is the only place you will find reputable professional opportunities before you get an agent. Getting an agent is major first step to opening the door to the big big opportunities though. You can find stuff that pay you money for acting on your own, but they won’t be to the caliber that you will find through an agent, unless you’re looking to get into extra work. Which be very careful about contracts you sign for extra work after some of the reports of studios including clauses that allow them to use AI generations using your likeness. I hope so too!!! Keep plugging away and eventually the opportunity will come! I’m planning to at some point make an agent specific video to answer as many questions as possible around that!

Then I got to teach myself my version of my craft through my audition tapes. I love playing villains or hideous characters. Started out in musical theatre. That's when I realized audience members focus more on the bad guys vs just the good guys. Being pretty and innocent is so boring to me 😆 I've learned also by watching Dacre Montgomery. I did my own version of Nancy from The Craft and I looked psycho. Which is actually good. 😆 I live nowhere near Atlanta. Been trying to apply with Casting Taylor Made for any photodouble for Stranger Things role. I did the extras thing over 10 years ago for other movies. But I'm over that phase. Want something bigger. I have demoreels on my page 😊 kzfaq.info/sun/PLmKU8T4KwGU1ONxAi7RM4VdpeujXUyJCx&si=68aX-pJeKgYnEmnz
