Tristian's Reef: Trident Breakdown/Fixing Trident Issues/Test Vial Cleaning
In this video I frustratingly break down my Trident and clean the test vial, replace the tubing, and reassemble it.
I made this video to illustrate how easy it is to disassemble the Neptune Trident without tools. I also go over some maintenance that Trident Owners might want to complete in order to keep their Trident working optimally.

@@ReefAndReptileAutomation, first of all, I love my Trident. I couldn't imagine not having one. But, yes, cars are overpriced. This is most evident when comparing used vs. new car prices. Clearly, the markup is ridiculous.

I really liked your video the instructions were very clear and easy to understand. One thing I would like to see with the trident. I think you should have the option to keep it running even if the reagents are out. The whole point would be to avoid clogs.

Thank you for this. I bought a trident used which had been sitting for quite some time. There was a buildup of salt crystals in the sample intake line inside the machine. With the help of your video I was able to open the machine and clear out the lines. Good as new now.

Awesome video and smooth dialogue throughout. I’ve had my trident for a year and within the past two months, two different issues popped up. First, the cal reading was messing up, due to build-up in the sample line. Second, the alk started reading 15 but Hannah test showed 10, which is what I keep my reef at. Cleaned out the sample line to fix issue one and then used this video to clean my sample vial. This way way quicker than Neptune support and definitely cheaper than sending it in for annual suggested maintenance. Thanks again!!!!!

This has absolutely not meant to be rude in anyway. I would not post this "in order to keep trident working optimally". I have have mine since day 1 and have had to clean the cuvette AFTER support informed me to do so. It should not be done unless you are told to. Also they have mentioned not to use any liquid in the cuvette. Not sure if that does anything to it. Keep up the good work man and appreciate all your videos! I know how hard it is to do them. I just did my cuvette cleaning video.
@TRSCAquatics

Hey Reef Automation - I agree that in order to keep your trident working optimally many people might not have to do what I did. I absolutely respect your point of view and the wishes of the manufacturer. However, like many other things manufacturers will advise end-users not to use certain products because they cannot account for what everyone and anyone might decide to use. We use alcohol to clean sensitive 1200 dollar CPUs and Contacts of oxidation. I choose to use rubbing alcohol to clean my cuvette followed by a through rinse in RODI followed by cleaning the cuvette with a lint free cloth and reinstalling it. How dirty anyone's cuvette might get is probably entirely random, however, my questionable common sense dictated that if the area in front of the LED's were as dirty as my cuvette was then how could I trust the readings. I rely on my trident to test and give decently accurate results for an investment in coral that can purchase a thousand tridents. I choose rubbing alcohol to clean my cuvette as in the medical industry they use it to disinfect crap used on human beings. I figured that if it was good enough to use there it was safe enough to use to clean my trident cuvette. Flushing it with RODI was an added step to ensure what didn't evaporate was washed away cleanly. Ultimately no piece of equipment is infallible. There is a life span to many things in our hobby. Vortech's will rust, Magnets will crack, and I still stand by that using saltwater to flush the lines is probably not the best thing. I personally saw my own tests drift over the months. The calibration solution usually brought it back into spec but I feel like its a bandaid to calibrate to the "new level of crud build up." - If I had to choose another option over the Trident TODAY then I would probably go with something else. But if Neptune released a Trident Version 2 that addressed my issues with Trident V1 I would undoubtedly buy that one instead. Thanks for the comment and your feedback as I highly respect what you do for the community on your channel :)

@@TRSCAquatics Thank you so much for the reply. Again it was in NO WAY a put down. I am glad you are watching and I will continue to support you as well. Hope you have a wonderful day.

No worries I didn’t take it that way at all. I’m actually happy that you did a video and hope to see it when it’s released as well. As for warranty, that’s a tough one. I’m curious how their service program will work, but if it’s like switching my trident for another one then I’m less likely to do it. I want MY trident back and not someone else’s. Similarly as a hardware geek I enjoyed the challenge and learned a LOT about that makes this thing tick, as well as possible issues to look out for. My unit was under warranty and Neptune sent me the part to repair it and at no time was it a case of if I couldn’t do it I would void my warranty. I was told if it was too much I could put the unit together the best I could and return it for them to do the repair. I had excellent customer service and felt safe in my repair attempt :)

@@joshbroadbent2341 I found that they enabled me to use up more of my reagent compared to without them. I also found that even after my Trident said I was out of reagent that I could continue testing for a few more days until I got wonky results. The general idea is that it allowed me to have a lot less WASTED reagent which was happening a LOT. I would continue to test until my reagent ran out at which point I would install new reagent do a manual test, calibrate it a day or so later and be back in action for another 2 months :) - Unfortunately I'm not made of money so flushing all that viable reagent down the drain fist punched the penny pincher in me each time :)
