Love the home made "Crayon tops" and the covers came out looking perfect. When this scoot is done, Triumph should be thanking you, this is how the bike should've been built. I have a 2 into 1 RB LSR exhaust on my 2002 Train. The exhaust system comes with solid Aluminum gaskets instead of using the standard crush gaskets and are a pain in the arse when installing, work great and are reusable. I solved this problem by using Hylomar to keep the gaskets in place. Great work Del! 🍻

hi Del, nice to see you annealing the copper washer. Thought I would mention this before all the pedants complain about not using a new washer. I have used Hylmer blue for many years, good stuff. I have never used the paint you are using but will take your word on how tough it is. I used to stove enamel engine casings then get a huge bollak*** for making the oven stink of paint for the next week :)
@Moonfleet41
@Moonfleet41 3 жыл бұрын
Sure thing mate, copper washers are practically infinite, you can use them over and over... just a case of rubbing the nicks out so they're nice and flat... give the Tough Paint a try, it's a flexible stone chip paint that actually works really well, and I prefer it to powder coat, I've chipped powder coat plenty of times, but once this stuff is cured, which does take a little while, I've dropped spaners, screwdrivers and all sorts on it and it just bounces off, plus it's really thick so it coats up in 3 layers and floats out really smooth, as you can see... !

Hey Dean, before I bought this little lathe, I was exactly the same, hadn't laid hands on one since '78, but you never loose the skills, once the principles are clear... and they were bigger mate, way bigger!... they were usually something like a Colchester or Bridgeport engineering lathe, probably weighed the thick end of a ton, and they're like gold dust now, if you can even find one in working order... I only bought this little one to see if I would make use of it and now that I do, I'm always on the look out for a big ol' machine, but they're either clapped out and need restoring with most of the parts missing, or the price of a family car, and I know I couldn't justify that, so I press on with the little one.

Hey Del, I was just wondering if you could put a message in your next video. The other day I witnessed the aftermath of an accident involving a fellow biker and a van here in England. I arrived seconds after the accident and rushed over to help. It was not nice and was not pretty. The biker was clearly deceased and it is not a nice thing to witness, it will stay with me for the rest of my life. Knowing that a family will have that knock on their door from the police is just gut wrenching and also everyone involved that day from witnesses, people involved and the emergency services...just think how many people one accident has affected. So please can you put a message out to all drivers and bikers to stay safe. Regards, Elliot
@Moonfleet41
@Moonfleet41 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Elliot, first of all, extending our sympathies to the family of the poor rider, and it's clear that you were affected by being involved with that, it does indeed have a profound effect to witness the end of a life, something we take for granted and the sudden realisation of how fragile it is. You are indeed right, there are a small army of people involved in such a situation, right through to counselors at the end of the journey for those who made it through... there have even been commercials on TV by the NHS demonstrating this and, of course, the very famous TAC adverts from Australia which were an attempt to drive home a hard message bout road safety. It's at this time of the year with the first bright days of Spring that riders can finally feel the opportunity to enjoy their bikes after a long winter, of either tip toeing around upright on wet, greasy roads or not riding at all, and that period of reduced or zero practice can make us vulnerable to make mistakes and there is a definite increase in bike vs. vehicle collisions this time of year, and I imagine it could be worse this year given that we are only just emerging from lock down... so you are correct, we must all take the greatest care, ride slow, think twice and plan every move carefully... it wouldn't actually be out of place for any of us who've had a season off the road to contact the sterling Advanced riding instructors out there and book a day on the road with them to sharpen up our skills and wake up our awareness again... that would certainly be money well invested. As you may well know, safety is a message we've promoted for 10yrs, and at the end of every single video, every time, I end with the roads 'take it easy, ride safe, and see you next time'... and never more than now is that message been so appropriate. Thank you for sharing that story Elliot, move on from it my friend, I've seen and attended a few myself, and it becomes part of your armour to guard you through the dangerous times, Del

@@Moonfleet41 thank you for your kind words Del and great advice. I myself am guilty of being stupid on a bike and taking risks, as are a lot of bikers (not all), and if we are truly honest with ourselves we sometimes have that invincible feeling..."ahh that won't happen to me".... I just think that we all need a slap around the face sometimes and for someone to tell us how it is, how bad it can be and what can happen. I really appreciate your videos and message at the end of each video Del but I wish I could reach all the people you can with your videos just to really drive it home to people and to remind them of the ultimate price. Ride safe and keep up the great work Del and Penny.

@Moonfleet41
@Moonfleet41 3 жыл бұрын
Hi buddy, TDM850's are rare over here was well, it was the all too common combination of a short production run followed by them being a popular commuter and every day bike, so they never got cherished, just used and as a result, same as you, there are very few left... and the whole bike breaker business over here has been mopped up by two companies who control the market, nobody really buys bikes to break any more, on a commercial basis, the large powerful salvage companies reserve them from the insurance companies before they're even written off, going straight from the crash site to Universal Salvage and sold as crash repairables, they don't really get parted out like they used to. So we're just down to the rare individuals who do it on their own bikes when they are past repairing... best of luck with your project mate!

got a question, pulling a spare divi900s engine apart in a little whiles time. Theres only 1 gasket in the engine, everthing else seems to be metal to metal. The engines never leaked when it was in the bike. Yamaha according to the micrfiche didnt do any other gaskets for the bike. DO I.. go with the blue and put a bit on as a "just in case" or metal to metal as its intended? What do you think?

@Moonfleet41 3 жыл бұрын
Hi there, the second spray was a product called GT85, it's a silicone based product that does many things, it lubricates, protects and leaves a shine, a little like WD40, but not oil based... the silicone is good for rubber, plastics and engine casings, helps to keep the water out and protect the finish!

Cheers mate, I did think of that, but they were too narrow at the base and would just fall over, you can't rely on them wedging in the holes, I was more confident with the big wide base and the plastic cones being solid rather than hollow!
