Join me on a midsize adventure bike, the Triumph Tiger 900 Rally Pro on a single day adventure bike ride out of Sydney Australia, through the Blue Mountains and Newnes Plateau and down to the legendary Blackfellows Hands Cave along Blackfellows Hands Track. This track gets pretty technical but rewards with some epic views of the Wolgan Valley.
One of the best ADV motorbike rides near Sydney NSW.

Thank you for this superb sharing of trail adventure! Very nice track with a variety of landscapes and surfaces. And the Tiger 900 RP seems totally at ease in this type of driving. In France, it's winter at the moment, cold with a little snow and ice. Looking forward to receiving my 2024 Tiger 900 RP in the spring and restarting off-road trips with friends.

@@australianadv: you are welcome! Definitely France is a great place for bike off-roading with a variety of landscapes (high mountains like the Alps, the Pyrenees, Corsica, plains, agricultural area, seaside,...), surfaces (rocks, mud, gravel, forest track , sand, snow and ice for the bravest and equipped for it), places to bivouac without danger (little risk of dangerous animals or insects like in Australia), regions full of superb little villages and heritage historic and great food everywhere! You can even make multi-country trips with our common borders with Italy and Spain. And apart from in summer where it can sometimes be hot (35 to 40 degrees Celsius), it remains bearable and manageable. And peaks at 50 degrees, it's in summer and in the southern part and because there can be hot wind from North Africa. Certain areas may be closed during the forest fire period. And overall you can ride all year round except when it's raining too much, cold and it gets muddy everywhere (not impossible but more pain than pleasure). Australia is also a dream for bikers, as we can see in your video but the conditions can be more extreme regarding weather & wildlife, distance with inhabited areas.

I was searching for just those words on my Watagans video, trying to describe the difference between four-wheel driving and motorcycling. With the car, momentum is not so much of an issue and you can take your time and pick your line, but with the bike you’re on a bit of a rollercoaster ride having to keep the speed up, without knowing exactly what’s up ahead.

Great ride mate! The Tiger is a lotta bike to wrestle on those roads and you did well not to drop her. I have an F850 GS and look like I have 20+ years on you, and am looking at getting something smaller and lighter so I can enjoy Sydney's backyard more. Thanks for sharing and for showing your route at the beginning of the vid...

Thanks for the comments, appreciate the feedback :-) I reckon the 850 GS is pretty similar to the tiger 900. Amazing bikes for getting to the trails, but definitely on the heavier side once you get there. Perfectly fine if you pick your trails right and don’t push the limits, and as an all round package pretty close to perfect. I do get tempted occasionally for a lighter ride, but don’t want something so light that you need to trailer it out there. Pretty happy with the tiger 900 :-)

I'm about to swap out a pair of Motoz Tractionator Rallz on my 900RP after about 6000 miles. They're not worn completely, but the front has cupped a bit and the rear is beginning to square off. Pros: great traction and confidence on and off pavement. Very grippy. Cons: They are hella noisy on the tarmac, whining at some speeds, but relatively quieter at others and when cornering. I've gotten a pair of Dunlop Trailmax Missions to replace them and hope to get them on in the next week.

If a person's bike type/size is limiting their ability to explore where they want to then id recommend they look at another bike. I have always wanted a Tiger Rally, and had considered "upgrading" the Husky FE501 for a Tiger when financially viable. After seeing the struggles of mid to big sized adventure" bike riders, especially when solo, I have decided I will in fact upgrade...not to a Tiger though, rather to a Husky 701. Far less weight, far more capable off-road, comfortable enough for highway travel for a few hundred km at a time. Easily set up for adventure with a larger tank, wind/weather deflection if desired, rackless cargo system, nav etc. Each to their own but I often wonder when I see people breaking bikes and themselves attempting to do on mid and large sized "ADV" bikes what are routes clearly suited to dual sports. Now of course people should get what suits their needs and wants to their satisfaction and adventure means different things to different people so of course these ADV bikes may be better for some than dual sports. I can't deny though that I seem to be seeing, first hand and on here, many that seem to have clealry made the less than optimal choice in that they crave challenging 4WD only tracks, and technical single trakcs but struggle with and curse their 220-250+ kg machines all day.. I almost "rationalized" myself out of the FE501 for a V-Strom 650. I told myself the road comfort and handling mattered more than the down side of being limited off-road and that the V-strom would be a better lead in to the Tiger one - day. Then I woke up and asked myself, having come from 250cc trail bikes, where do I actually want to explore, to adventure to and with whom? How would a mid sized bike go in that environment and what issue would it cause solo if stuck, or repeatedly dropped etc. What high tech electronic gadgetry and assistance do i actually need to enjoy riding, what assists safety and what simply gets in the way of the experience or worse covers for shitty trail craft and riding skills? Horses for courses, just ask yourselves, have you actually backed the right horse for your favorite courses or are you beating a massive racehorse (and yourslef) to death on trails better suited to smaller yet sturdy and more sure footed quarter horse. Here endeth the rant :-)
@australianadv
@australianadv 10 ай бұрын
I love a good rant, thanks for taking the time! Basically it's all just a compromise, the road trip would be comfier on a Goldwing and the tracks would be better on a WR250. The 501, 701 and the Tiger 900 are all great bikes though. The 501 would be my 2nd bike if could have two. The 701 might be too similar to the Tiger.

Just wondering when you lower your tyre pressures does the TPMS warnings annoy you on the TFT? I have the Motoz Tractionator Adventure on the rear, and Bridgestone Battlax AX41 on the front of my Triumph Tiger 900 Rally Pro. Rear is fine, re AX41 I was very disappointed with it and will try something else. I enjoy your videos. 👍😁

It is a bit annoying, but the trick is to acknowledge the alert by pressing the joystick 4 times. After that it's back to normal. Of course you have to do that every time you start the bike. On the flipside it's good to get an alert if you really do have a leak to I suppose there's no way around it. Thanks for the tip about the AX41 front. I've been very happy with the TKC80 front, but will probably try the Motoz Dualventure next.

Would definitely help. I stalled a couple more times but didn't include in the footage. But not sure I'd change the sprocket because need to keep the gearing high enough for the highway. I think I need to ride the clutch a bit more, struggle with that a bit when standing on the pegs.

Hi really enjoying your videos and trips I am changing from my vstrom and deciding between the rally900 and rally pro do you think you specifically need the pro model for all of the off road tracks you have done thus far or as found 900 rally with all the upgrades of quick shifter heated seats bar the extra rider mode but wondering I feel I have your similar riding style would appreciate your opinion
@australianadv
@australianadv 10 ай бұрын
Thanks, I appreciate that! As far as I know the non-rally version is basically just as good as the rally version off road, it just doesn’t have the “off road pro” mode. I’ve found that that the regular off road mode works best for me anyway. The extra features with the pro are heated seats, quick shifter, centre stand, some basic protection. It’s a fair bit for the extra $2500 and might increase the resale price down the road. It’s a tough decision. I do like the quick shifter.

@australianadv

Those upgrades are all the best things the Pro model has over the regular Rally so that sounds like a good buy if the price is right. Centre stand is useful, quick shifter is great. The extra riding mode isn’t that important, and the connectivity stuff is pretty poorly done to be honest, I don’t bother with it nowadays.

Only issues seem to be if you break heavily with the front on the road you can get abnormal wear.
