Hi mate - nice channel! Another Sydney guy here, similar vintage. The guy over the cliff very lucky to be alive, hey? I've been riding with mates and something similar happened to one of them, heli flight for that one too. I was the first on the scene and it was a sickening feeling knowing he was over the edge. That little "off" of yours must have been a worrisome moment. Just tell people you had a sudden fit of curiosity about how hard the road was! Shame you weren't aware about the road back along the dam not being open (it never has, for the risk of idiots contaminating Sydney's water supply - makes sense!). I guess just because there's a road on a map doesn't mean it's open to everyone. I also made a comment on the Murrays Run clip re Hungry Creek. I've had a Tiger 1050 Sport for a few years but this week I picked up a CRF300L Rally, the lure of the dirt was too strong!

At the risk of sounding condescending, I would hope that some major lessons learned on this episode are: - Do not ride alone in the bush. Find a buddy or riding club. - In remote areas where there is likely no cell phone service, be prepared for possible isolation with first aid, water, etc. and especially a backup plan. - Where the chance of encountering ad hoc help is greatly reduced, let someone else know where you are going and what the expected return time will be. - Avoiding exceeding one's physical capabilities especially if not in a training regimen. Never keep pushing on without having an initial riding plan that is rational, and adjust when necessary. - Carry and utilize the right equipment for the job. Street tires on rugged terrain greatly increases the chance for a crash. Don't rely on the bike to be always reliable when heading for the outback. Have contingency plans. Sorry to sound preachy, but even though you didn't go over a cliff it seems to me you could have been almost in a similar situation much further off the beaten path without the ability to carry on by yourself. I know this from my own stupid past mistakes and poor judgement in my younger days of off-road riding. Other vids I see in this realm, like Itchy Boots for example, give me a sense of elevated preparedness and training. A day ride can easily put one in situation of being in over their head without those elements on the table as well. I love my Tiger 900 GT Pro, but hope to always have a deep respect for any risk that is associated with enjoying the fun of riding it. Peace✌🏿, and I enjoyed the video, otherwise.

@@australianadv I ride on my own mainly and always have the InReach as well as water, food (OSM bars or similar), first aid and a tarp in case I have to do an overnighter unexpectedly. How can you possibly say that he is "ok" when we can clearly see that his knee is buggered, enough that it protrudes outward when he puts weight on it. This looks like a a complete disaster, crashing in the evening, alone, on street tires. Lots of luck going on in this so called adventure. Wow two blatant fails from two adventure riders in one afternoon, on one road. Imagine all the other countless injury related drops and such going on throughout the world each minute of the day...hundreds up on hundreds.....This ADV riding fad is pretty high injury per km if you ask me. Probably less injuries and crashing going on the the MX circuits etc. Just saying.....
@zzzsydneyhom1379
@zzzsydneyhom1379 4 ай бұрын
@@greyfisher3897 I believe that you misread my comment mate, cause I said I was glad that he got home ok, not that he was "ok". I have often ridden the same road, which bypasses Goulburn and gets me to Taralga via Wombeyan Caves, and while not super remote getting Ambo'd out would take hours, and having his bike retrieved wouldn't have been cheap, which would have been even worse on the firetrail shortcut he took and crashed on. I suspect you're Aussie so you know that most of Australia's roads are unpaved once you leave the cities and big coastal towns and are not specific adventure roads like American BDR's, they are just good ol' Aussie roads that get us to get where we are going, since they are the only way to travel unless you fly. Speaking of flying, it reminds me of a crop-sprayer pilot mate of mine who maintains that, "any landing that you can walk away from is a good landing"! And while our friend here didn't actually walk away, he was able to get himself home on his bike. Cheers...
@greyfisher3897
@greyfisher3897 4 ай бұрын
@@zzzsydneyhom1379 I suppose I was a little hasty, but...he got home, but was not OK. I comment often on the ADV videos, the ones with crashes that are brushed off as "part of it", and getting back on when I heal up etc. I just don't get it. He hurt his knee....without one working properly you are a cripple. The ADV world downplays injury like I have never seen. I appreciate your comment/analogy with a landing of a plane...your made it down..thats all that matters. Well...I guess, but that only goes so far, and it is a little apples and oranges. Bikes fly, and of course if you land on two wheels as opposed to your head...that would apply, but still apples to oranges as we have no wings....and aren't flying.....stating the obvious. No I am Canadian. We have vast back country, and the risk of having to walk out is always in my prep list...ie I bring walkout shoes, and a back pack style luggage if necessary, a tarp, and the ability to make a fire etc. Its a risk riding alone, I do it, more often than not...safer to ride alone away from other peoples mistakes....a catch 22. I appreciate your reply, I am trying to create discussion, maybe this isn't the best venue, but I search "ADV crashes" on you tube out of interest in the "new" sport. I ride...seasoned championed enduro, instructed, all that BS. I study this ADV world and notice the casual crashing is part of it, and find it interesting...I find it a bit weird to be honest, that a knee injury is shrugged off....I would be seriously contemplating where I went wrong if I crashed like that....on a road. I would also be seriously contemplating the fact that he passed a guy who drove off a cliff...on a flat serviced road...on exactly the same bike.....I think there is a clue in that event that went right over his head....birds of a feather. Dudes riding the same bike, the same road...and both completely over their heads skill wise, and relying on pure luck, and helicopters. I like Adam Reimann....and intellectual approach to riding...using your brain to make intelligent decisions is the only solution to this odd motorcycle cultural phenomenon. Crashing with injury and accepting the risk, instead of "calculatiing" the risk....and making every effort to not crash. The other day I say an Amercian video same thing. crashed out "going for it" up a hill, crushed his foot, and compared the crushing to the last time he crushed it.....the guy was only in his 30's....I replied in a similar fashion, and he was decent about it, and I also referred him to ARiemann. Easily the best teacher of ADV riding, hands down, on you tube, possilby the planet. cheers.
@zzzsydneyhom1379
@zzzsydneyhom1379 4 ай бұрын
@@greyfisher3897 Thanks for your thoughtful reply Grey and sorry to mistake you for an Aussie. I also agree that ARiemann is a next level rider and teacher and I too frequent his page and always learn something valuable. I suspect that in both of these crashes on the same well serviced road were the result of excess speed and or lack of concentration. Modern tricked up "Adventure Bikes" like the Tiger 900 have so many rider aids like Ride Modes, Stability Control, ABS etc. that I believe that it gives many riders overconfidence that the bike will always get them out of trouble. This can indeed occur but more likely on-road and not so much on the dirt, where no amount of computer wizardry can overcome poor riding or poor choices of line, speed, tyres etc... I'm still riding, mostly alone in my mid 70's, and not only do I not want to have to walk out of the bush, I'm not so sure how far I'd get, so I ride careful and slow. I ride alone mostly so I can ride my own ride at my own pace instead of feeling pressured to keep up especially when I'm getting a bit weary. You and I are lucky to have beautiful countries to ride in. In Oz we can ride all year round but the summer heat gets oppressive and a crash or even a breakdown can be iffy, since you can only carry so much water before the weight becomes an issue. I spent some time in South Eastern Canada in my younger days and thought that you guys got the best of the North American continent... except in winter. Stay safe mon ami.

Hi, how’s the leg? Hope your OK. Back on yet? Great clips, I got here from the Triumph App connection one you did. I just gave up. Loved your Walcha to Glouster; I’ll be doing that for sure. I’m just back on after months of recovery from a foot accident. I’m taking it pretty easy I can tell you. I was a bit weary looking at your speedo right before your accident. I have read a few comments as I didn’t want to repeat; so have you got the off road tyres yet? Anyway I’m also a proud Tiger 900 GT Pro owner. I have the Gearne SG12s too but like you can’t get them to work on the gear lever and have cranked it all the way up. I’m investigating a smaller rod to the (auto shifter) gear box. I wish you all the best and hope to see you on the road. E.

Hi mate, thanks for the comment. The leg is pretty much back to 100%. I've since learned the most important thing you can do is just don't go so fast. I sold the SG12s, just too big, but I might get some AlpineStar tech7s. Will have to test before I buy though. I've since got Continental TKC80 tyres which have been brilliant, but I kept my old tyres in case I want to do some distance touring. I've done about 5000kms on the TCK80s and the rear is 30%, front about 70%. Better than I thought I'd get.

Um, as a local it is Bull e o. Not rhyming with Jullio. Just in case no one has mentioned this ....From Yerranderie east to the west side of Warragamba dam is not open to the public, is gated/signposted and striclty off limits to public access and if you are caught there - very heavy fines. In the vicinity of tens of thousands of dollars. Sydney Water use trail cameras a lot and have rangers. Any roads on the map that start with a W are Sydney Water - old MWSD&B roads. Yerranderie is one way in and same way back out. Google maps shouldn't be used for these areas - or check and then double check. Same coming in from the Oaks side. No access. The long way around. Anywhere near water storage around Sydney, Illawarra and Central Coast the tracks are off limits - for very good reason.

what a great adventure! some have commented in favor of you getting knee braces to protect against future injuries, and while I am not against knee braces, I think the best way to protect yourself from a crash is better tires. I think your crash was caused at least in part by the OEM Battlax Adventure A41 tires you have on your bike. If you are going to go off road again (which you should), then you need more off road oriented tires. I am pretty sure that had you had appropriate tires, you wouldn't have crashed! Since you ride a lot of road miles, your new tires need to be decent on the road also. with that in mind, I have been very happy with a Motoz GPS front / Tractionator Adventure rear combo. If you don't like that, I would check out the new Metzler Karoo 4, Pirelli Rally STR, or Dunlop TrailMax Mission. All these will give you way better traction off road than your current OEM Battlax Adventure A41 tires! and all the models I suggested have decent street characteristics! I know your current tires are hardly worn, so replacing them might seem like a waste, but if new tires can prevent another similar crash, then new tires will result in a huge savings! It would have been interesting to see the crash video - will you be posting it too? Thanks for sharing - Cheers

Thanks for the advice, I"m definitely looking to get some decent off road tyres very soon. Unfortunately I don't have footage of the crash, my GoPro was set to record the 15 seconds before hitting record, but by the time I came to my senses after the crash more than 15 seconds must have passed because the footage starts with me already on the ground.

Not too bad. I did another video going over the bike in detail if you’re curious

Too bad there is no footage of the crash to evaluate. Hope your knee heals soon.

Thanks. Yeah from a content point of view it would have been good, I'm just glad I had the presence of mind to press record after the crash. Shame the GoPro wasn't set to 30 seconds pre-record. Mind you, I don't plan on repeating the experience!

unfortunate... but we are the inventor and creator of our own misfortune in this case for sure... perhaps some decent riding boots and knee braces would be a good idea as an investment the next ride . heal soon.

Thanks mate. Yeah I was pretty well protected for road riding, Gaerne boots, rip stop jeans with knee pads, jacket, gloves, full face helmet. I think I’ll need more motocross type gear to be safer next time if I want to hit the dirt that hard

It’s risky that’s for sure. I have a Garmin Inreach now so at least I can communicate (if I’m still conscious:-)

Another fine example of ADV riders cashing out an injuring themselves seriously, relying on helicopters and such, and also relying on "luck". A blown knee joint, ligament, tendon whatever...then you talk lightly about getting out again once its healed.....this is terrible example of motorcycling. Many many mistakes led to this near disaster....many lessons "learned" maybe....Tune in to AReimann1 fellas and learn before you head out, the do's and dont's .....

I’m sure Adam Riemann has had plenty of crashes himself, and luck would have played a part in the outcome of all of them. Motorcycling is a dangerous activity, but so is life, and they are plenty of less interesting ways you can be a burden on society.

@@australianadv Pure nonsense, a rider in complete denial over his head. Adam most certainly has had crashes, no where in my comment did I suggest otherwise. What I did suggest was that this new adv market has attracted an alarming number of riders going out on heavy bikes and hurting themselves badly, having to close roads, and require helicopter rescues...over and over....and over again. It was not an odd observation that you made on that one single day, passing a rider on the exact same bike crashing badly...like you did....on a flat road. Adam crashes jumping logs, racing at extreme speeds, competing etc. And even then the rate of crashes you would see at your local track is "without a doubt' less than the current rate of adv riders crashing out, dropping, endlessly, repeatedly, and hurting themselves inevtitably...as you said. To suggest in your comment that I need to be informed that motorcycling is dangerous etc etc, is a repeated comment pulled from the great book of motorcycling myths. Riding a hourse is dangerous, so is hiking in the mountains...so is ice hockey, and rugby. The point your missing in my contribution to your crash and injury video, is that if you learn from Adam instead of from nearly breaking your knee in half, that would be a better approach. Yes motorcycling in dangerous....duh.....but if you listen to Adam you would learn that intellectually, they are not dangerous...if you apply more thought, and less experimenting and learning from your mistakes attitude, all that will ever get you is an injury...that you may not ever recover from....whether its psychologically or physically. I say this not as grumpy comment, but as an experienced, championed, veteran off road and on road rider since 1979 to today, and spent 10 years as an actually certified instructor I ride two bikes, and have not crashed, dropped, or had to learn from an injury since I was in my 20's and I am 60. T7 and DRZE....simple as that. You can take my comment for what it is.....I have a slight limp stemming from a minor knee injury when I was mid 20's, my physiotherpist at the time predicted that limp, and low and behold it was true. Remind yourself mate, that injuries are permanent...and crashes need to be avoided at all costs.....ADV riders are showing a poor attitude, and take crashing...and the crashbar phenomena a little too lightly. Note on Adams bikes....no crash bars...and no bark busters....etc Because he knows they are not a good idea, and not needed. Crash bars, and bark busters...actually make injury risk go up...if you "think" about it.....Your welcome from Canada...good luck with your dangerous experiment.
