I almost cried during this video because I play euphonium and trombone.. I know that was their first time playing but the "instructor" didn't show them how to hold and play it well enough in my opinion.

First thing. Teach them How to properly hold it. Then setting the embouchure, then playing notes, then slide positions.

This is making me cringe, partly because they're holding it wrong, and partly because they are playing like 2 tones flat. I'm surprised with the patience of their instructor. I would be screaming at them at revoking their playing privileges

The least he could have done was teach them how to hold the trombones properly; could've done a lot of damage to them. Very costly.

When he was telling them how to hold the trombones, and she grabbed it and he said "That'll do", in my mind, I was think "Hell no, that won't do!"

Okay get this straight. Any instrument that uses WIND is a WIND instrument. Woodwind and brass are two subcategories of wind.

I've played the trombone for 5 years.. this hurt my soul. But... the instructor didn't even teach them properly!! He told them to grab the slide with a FIST and.. no!! It's three fingers, gosh darn it. And he could have told them to steady their sound.. to focus it more.. so much stuff.. sigh. They need to never pick up a brass instrument again please.

No it wont damage my instrument and i fixed it already. But seriously, cut the crap on how they hold it cause they werent comfortable holding either way.

The way they are holding the trombone...CRINGE I TELL YOU. That's the first thing the instructor should have taught them properly. 'Expert' my ass. Either that or he couldn't be bothered. He SHOULD be though . Brass instruments are very expensive. My tbone cost me over a thousand and it wasn't even branded. As someone who has played over 6 years, my heart breaks.

Hey they are freakin beginners, I bet all of you sucked at playing an instrument when you just started. If you didn't want to be tortured by awful sound you could've just not watched the video

Savant Crystian the trombone is the pretty much the most versatile wind instrument, I say it is as hard to play as, say the trumpet or a sax or clarinet. And I say it has the most style

They play worse than the beginner band I teach! But I know this was done just for fun and not to make them experts. It's hilarious and adorable. Way to go Jim and Zoe! Love you two to bits!

I'm a 16 year old girl and I've played trombone for 4 years and it was so great to see people playing it! Maybe people will finally understand why I think playing it is so fun :P

All people read this, they have never played the trombone so who are they meant to know how to play it and it takes adults longer to learn something than children do. No one cares if you can play better than them, if you can, brilliant, well done, but they can't. They were just having fun.

For all of you saying "omg trombone is brass not wind": Any instrument that requires air to pass through it in order to sound is a wind instrument, hence "wind." All brass instruments are wind instruments. What you are all referring to are WOODwind instruments (clarinet, flute, sax, etc.). Sorry, but I can't help but cringe any time someone incorrectly uses the term "wind instrument."

The term "wind instrument" applies to both woodwind and brass instruments. So you're right, the trombone is a low brass instrument, but it's also a wind instrument.

Out of 3 Trombonist In My section, one is in 8th Grade and has been in advanced for 2 years, so me and my friend dont really mind him being first chair, but we compete for 2nd, and our first challenge was simple Bb Scale, and he played all notes horrible, and i only messed up on my mid Bb note....so mad, oh well, next week gonna cream him with a song not a scale >:)

If your band director is smart he will be looking for your tone. There's a trumpet player I know who didn't practice the piece given to us but up to the 4th measure and he made it into symphonic band (our higher up band) because of his tone alone.

SoulTheScytheOG Yeah, tone matters a lot. Otherwise the easiest note can sound like someone's playing something wrong... In my high school's top band, we spent like ten minutes of our class period tuning each and every instrument... It gets pretty boring actually since my tuning slide doesn't tend to move, so I'm usually in tune, but... For woodwinds I'd imagine that it's quite hard since there are so many things you have to adjust.

I learned seven instruments in year 6, while I was eleven years old, and I am still really good at them. I found this really funny. I learned oboe, alto sax, bassoon, trombone, trumpet, bari sax, and clarinet in 9 months. Most of the time it only took about 15 minutes until I was quite good and able to play in front of anyone a solo....
