Tron Legacy is an underrated masterpiece

There’s something about this world that I just cannot let go of.

I'm still pissed we won't ever have a new sequel. I absolutely love the Tron universe!

Tron Legacy is my favourite film of all time, and the first Ducati scene is what ended up getting me into motorcycles (I followed up on that dream by getting my Yamaha yesterday.) The lack of praise for this movie deeply saddens me, so I thank you for making this video. Well written and informative!

I have a feeling that Disney+ might be the future for Tron 3. Disney are going need content that isn't Star Wars and Marvel. Tron Legacy wasn't a "bomb". It had fertile ground to grow a franchise on.

I can’t really get tired of Tron. A sequel is inevitable. Just means we might have to wait another 5 or 10 years... the beauty of that though is the graphics should be amazing because Tron Legacy was stunning, especially 2010.

After watching this and binge watching Tron Uprising, i gotta rewatch both the original and Legacy again.

i’m impressed with Joseph Kosinski’s work on tron legacy, especially since it was his first attempt at directing a big budget movie.

A cult classic and one of my favorite disney flims

Underrated Masterpiece

While I may have issues with the plot & characters, I've never seen Tron Legacy as anything other than a visual marvel. Combine that with practical sets & costumes (which the suits made so much noise, they had to do the dialogue in post production) & an evolved yet different world, it was a sight to behold. Nicely done video.

I'd hardly heard of tron before I heard of the sequel and basically I only watched cause olivia wilde but damn, it was such a good experience, I've watched it again and again and again, it's become one of my favourite films for all the reasons you mention in this fantastic video. definitely subbing now

My couch potato self needs a 4K HDR Tron film. I’m such a sucker for Tron because it has 80s nostalgia, great art and music, and blends technology and fantasy. It’s a nerdy boy’s dream.

Such a great breakdown of why this film is an underated gem! You forgot to mention how the filmmaker used 3D to emphasize how different these worlds are which was a perfect way to juxtapose the scenes out of the Grid which we're not shot in 3D.

Tron Legacy is one of my favorite “go to movies” when I don’t know what to watch. It’s a films that deserves more praise then it has. One of the most underrated Disney films out there.

this! i always loved the movie (ive seen it at least 30 times), but i always thought "the story wasnt really there so it isnt as good a movie as i think it is", but then with what u just said i change my mind. this is one of my all time favorite movies.

tron legacy is criminally slept on

Funnily enough, the grid seems enormous and all encompassing, but as far as I can tell from the film language of the ending. It all happens in one fancy desk.

The ARG was absolutely amazing. That was one of the best film marketing campaigns I've ever seen and participated in. I'm really, really happy to see that the Tron franchise is finally getting it's due. Hopefully, Disney will keep it going. After all, they did build the Tron ride at a couple of the parks.

I wish I could have seen this movie in Imax. It would be neat if Disney released it to any Imax theaters that are still open during the pandemic. This movie is right near the top of my favorite all-time. It is easily re-watchable for me and more of an experience when watching at night in a dark room. Daft Punk's music was paired perfectly with the visuals. And I feel the script honored and called back to the original very well and set up a easy conclusion a third movie titled "Tron: Destiny" (search for the fan-made trailer). You have fairly big actors in Legacy that weren't used much that can be bigger part of Tron 3: Bruce Boxleitner can return as Tron (after leaving the Rinzler mantle behind), Cillian Murphy as Edward Dillinger Jr, Jeff Nordling as Richard Mackey. With technology having been improved for faces, it would be very easy to put young faces of the Tron 1 characters. It would be epic to see David Warner's old Edward Dillinger Sr./young Sark/MCP return in a movie with Jeff Bridges' young CLU, Boxleitner's young Tron/old Alan Bradley, and the aged Sam Flynn, Quorra. You could even bring back Michael Sheen's original ISO-Caster after the grid was essentially reset. All Tron 3 has to be is Ed Dillinger Jr. and Richard Mackey conspiring against Sam Flynn who has taken Encom back. Dillinger Jr. is able to resurrect his father's Sark in the grid and team up with a reset CLU to get into the real world via the internet and fulfill the destiny that both Kevin Flynn and CLU mentioned in Legacy. Sam and Quorra team up with Alan Bradley, Tron, Castor, and the ISO's that are now coming through the portal in the real world to stop it from spreading. I want to see a light cycle/light jet battle in the real world.

If i could scape somewhere it would be the grid!!!

I love this film in very similar ways to why I love Suspiria, and I think your video on that translates pretty well to Tron: Legacy too.

What I find is that most videos about TRON don't discuss why it was called TRON. For those who know the history of computers (ref: IBM), there was a command that allowed you to trace how a program progressed as it was being executed - Trace On, abbreviated as the command TRON (and yes, there was a Trace Off - TROFF). So, TRON was the program that was tracing how the Master Control Program was running with an eye of finding a way the program could be interrupted.

Apparently, the exec's at Disney only ever saw "Tron" as a competitor to "Star Wars". So, when they bought the rights to the real deal, they didn't see any need to keep it around. Even canceled its cartoon "Tron: Evolution" on a cliffhanger ending despite its acclaim.

Out of the whole tron franchise, only the first is dated, that is an impressive feat for what many perceive as a cult classic franchise

The love of tron legacy for me descends from my prior existing love of a bit of a cult show I dare to dub as “French anime”. If you know, you know.

I think the main battle of themes is more order vs. freedom rather than order vs. rebellion. It’s true that the Flynn’s rebel against CLU. But I think the purpose is to achieve freedom, not to rebel for rebellions sake.

Kevin Flynn didn't enter THE GRID in the first film-he was sucked into the GAME GRID in a different server, The ENCOM 511. Legacy takes place in Kevin's private server which wasn't connected to ENCOM, nor was it connected to the cyberspace. The ENCOM 511 was. Joe Kosinski mentioned this in an interview 12 years ago, saying (verbatim) the virtual world in TRON Legacy is, "isolated much like the Galapagos Islands".

I find the original movie very immersive. The CG may be much more primitive but to me that is how I see the computer...

Honestly as much as we complain about the marvel cinematic universe and the seeming death of any ounce of creativity in hollywood, its pretty sad that when a movie like this or bladerunner 2049 come along, they always do badly in the box office, only to gain a bigger following afterwards.

Great analysis of the film which largely coincides with my own. However I believe Tron will always find a more niche audience and perform below corporate exceptions which suits me fine. As far as I am concerned the series can end with 'Legacy' and with its great legacy intact rather than being ground down by cash grab sequels.

I loved the visuals, but the world always felt empty to me, like the programs who lived there were nothing, and didn't matter. They didn't really have any humanization. And so everything felt inconsequential. Also the story didn't flow as much as I wanted it to. I think the things they did right were the visuals, cast and music. But it didn't quite bring it all together with the story, which why it didn't do well at the box office.

Disney marketing got all caught up in the 3D nonsense, instead of concentrating on the story.

Any plans to fix the bad deepfaking in this film? Seems like it would be a quick win nowadays.

Sam is not a guy that is not so lucky with the girls in his world ..... He is pulled into the world of tron and must battle for this iso he met that he falls in love with .... jeez

Sorry, but the first one I could believe was inside a computer. The second one, not so much. It was too organic. I liked the story in Legacy, but I think that special effects were a letdown. And thanks to Lone Ranger flopping, we will probably never have the chance to see this fixed.
