In this video, I cover the known lore surrounding the ISO’s and how I think they could fit into a potential third installment.

They’re interesting but unfortunately underdeveloped and occasionally extraneous to the plot of Legacy. The film could’ve done without them.

@@tarkajedi3331 I’m okay with them, but they do definitely open a can of worms about how the Grid and real world behave that I don’t know if I ever wanted addressed. There’s only so much you can do with the ISOs before the Tron franchise loses focus and becomes something it’s not meant to be. Tron is limited by its formula. It has to be an action cyberpunk adventure story, which means it can’t constantly dwell on story every second. I think ISOs would be better suited for a comic book. We got a tiny bit of that in Betrayal, but not much.

@@TheAlienGangster I disagree- I love the philosophical edge of cyberpunk like ghost in the shell. The trouble is it was a reboot as much as a sequel. Still it raises questions about us. For instance she doesn't age or get sick... so a sthat mean she is immortal in our world? The whole thing is cool. Yes the action is cool but the story and character matter... Also there was a Zen like edge to it....

@@tarkajedi3331 I bet she ages. That’s just the nature of organic matter on Earth. My interpretation is that the laser formed her a new body out of Kevin’s molecules still stored in the laser from 1989. She must’ve been formed as a hybrid human. So she has the bio-luminescent markings of an ISO and the regenerative capabilities, but still bleeds and ages like a human because that’s just how our organic material and organs behave. If an Axolotl can exist on Earth and have regenerative capabilities, I bet she could. Only thing is I have no clue how Kevin managed to program a laser that can perfectly create a new body with hybrid DNA. Massive suspension of disbelief going on.

Not gonna lie, I actually forgot Tron 3 was happening lol. Then again, I guess that may tend to happen when they have sequels that are at the very least 10 years apart.

It’s like Half-Life 3. It’s been in the “potentially happening” stage (aka development hell) for 10 years. Tron Ascension (the originally planned direct sequel to Legacy) was actually supposed to come out around 2015-2017, but looked how that turned out. The only way I could see this one coming to fruition is if they get some headliners to jump aboard, like a big-name composer (Daft Punk...wink wink) or another big actor like Jeff Bridges (get well soon) agrees.

I can’t see him as the protagonist, since having a de-aged 70 year old man as the main character would be a bit uncanny, but I would definitely support him having a larger role. Many people who went into Legacy without having seen the original probably left confused about why Tron was important enough to be in the title.

Love these Tron lore videos. The best thing to watch, before turning in. I think the last area of exploration for the Tron series would be the internet and programs interacting with other systems/grids. I'd like to see different interpretations of code and operations interact in something that can appear to be as limitless as our own universe on a digital realm.

The only way they could incorporate the internet in TRON 3 is: IF it takes place in the ENCOM server. The server in Legacy wasn't connected to cyberspace. TRON 2.0 (the game) showed some cool ways how to involve the internet.

I think we could see more ISOs in a new film...but I really want is a return of the Animated series. I loved it...and the writing for it was incredible. Was so disappointed when it ended with 3 episodes yet to play. And the story arc with CORA and her friend...that was interesting...and showed the depths that Trsler would go to keep Paige as his aide

Another enjoyable presentation. The original "Tron" had enough of a story line to make any sci-fi fan want to see it. Back then it was all about "special effects". At the time they were considered "cutting edge". Particularly the light cycle sequences. Unfortunately time has not been kind. It is what it is. Having said that there is still a lot of potential with the "Tron" universe. We shall have to see. Thanks for sharing. :)

What if the ISO DNA was guiding Flynn to creating clean energy. That would help humanity more than perhaps anything else.

It’s more likely that the ISO DNA was the key to bridging the gap between human DNA and digital code. With that kind of knowledge, they could eventually digitize humans and remove imperfections from their code which would translate when they return to their physical body. It could also allow for new outlooks on philosophy and religion not only from the perspective of the ISOs themselves, but from the humans who’ve discovered that life was created inside a machine. It’d turn philosophy on its head.

@@JenkoRun It could be cool, but I actually don’t really want them to explore that. I don’t want the endgame for the real world in Tron to be a super-futuristic utopia, sorta like the Independence Day sequel showed the world in a radical future. I always like the real world feeling real and normal and the Grid being the tech utopia.

I love the video, Nerd Cookies. As I told you before, I love TRON. It's is one of my favorite franchises, that has yet to be corrupted. If it wasn't obvious by my overuse of "Greetings Programs!". The idea of that the ISOs brought was that not only that the Grid was a digital landscape of reality. But, that it could be just as expansive as our reality.

Another welcome trip back to the Grid. Perhaps you should do a video on the relentless irony of the fact that CLU actually orchestrated a COUP. But yes, we need more ISOs. Flynn's line about how they manifested - like a flame, is very similar to that Zen saying about how "when conditions are sufficient, we manifest." I'm also pretty sure Bernie Glassman, Jeff Bridges collaborator on the Dude and the Zen Master book, took a pass or two on the Legacy script. We need more of that too.

Rewatched the first movie after your first Tron post, now I'm going to watch the second so I can catch up on the story. Thanks as always NC and I look forward to the upcoming willow post...I freaking love that movie and a series would be most excellent...Also 16k subs...WOW.

The iso DNA could just be the introduction of artificial intelligence; that basic programs had created a self thinking program model to think and solve for itself. That would have been out Flynn’s knowledge at that time and would appear to be beneficial for mankind. This could open a next chapter of Tron combating our new code era of AI and what it could do for, or against humanity.

After watching Legacy again, I changed my opinion. It's flawed, but not awful. The Uprising cartoon was frigging awesome. I'm looking forward to what some actual writers will do with the next movie.

Yup. Legacy was very flawed (very stupid script, wooden acting, lack of Tron), but I still had a blast with it, and that’s all that matters.

Not just its visual style, but the way it’s framed, the way the music is lined up with the scenes, and the way they manage to make a small green screen set feel like a gateway to an expansive digital world.

Sorry for my length. Here's the thing-and I feel this is something alot of people are either unaware of, OR, they forget: TRON '82 and TRON LEGACY take place in 2 different systems. TRON '82 takes place inside the ENCOM 511 mainframe (also referred to as "The Game Grid" specifically where the Light Cycle and Disc games took place; Outside of that, it was called, "The System"), which was connected to the pre-internet; Legacy takes place in a private server, which was not connected to cyberspace. Kosinski said this in an interview back when the VFX reel wowed audiences in Hall H at 2008 Comic-Con, and again in 2010 during an interview after Legacy came out. Therefore, IF TRON ARES (and that's a BIG "If", as we don't know if it is a prequel, like TRON UPRISING or if it takes place after Legacy) is taking place after Legacy, it would stand to reason that it would take place primarily in the ENCOM server, especially since the 2nd Screen feature of the Blu-Ray reveals that Sam Flynn uploaded several KEY (😉) parts of The Grid to his flash drive at the end of Legacy. Going further, the only way the ISOs (outside of Quorra) would reappear (given the aforementioned), is if Sam had installed copies of them into the ENCOM server. Then again, if TR3N (LOL!!!) is going a different route, who knows? We shall see. Time will tell.

It would be awesome if the ISOs got out into our real world with Tron leading them and Tron himself becomes seen as a kind of prophet to many people in the real world. Theres so much potential for a third Tron movie.

I’d rather keep Tron as the gatekeeper of the Grid, not the prophet in the real world. I like them keeping the worlds separate so they can have separate cultures and stories. I think connecting them that much would just cheapen the concept of the Grid. Quorra was a one-off. Two people entered the Grid, two people left. I like it being simple like that.

@@TheAlienGangster True i was thinking of ways they could really expand the whole story from just the Grid, and have Tron be like completely missunderstood by the real world where he is only view as a prophet by many people. But yeh i guess it would cheapen the grid concept itself.

@@TheAlienGangster Which is why i think it would make for a very interesting sequel, to see the ISOs get basically rejected and isolated by humanity. And to see maybe Tron lead them, but he gets missunderstood as a prophet by some, an enemy outright by others, maybe especially even some religious zealot groups. So then we could have this really interesting theme of Transhumanism, the evolution of humanity and what it means to be "human". Theres alot of potential here to explore so many avenues and ideas. We're already slowly becoming more and more "integrated" with our digital technology today in this current era. Maybe it could cause a all out war, where humans outright see the ISOs as a threat to their own existence, disstrust spreading and them thinking the ISOs may one day try to take over completely. But the truth is the ISOs in general just want to explore their own consciousnesses which has led them to the physical/organic outside world. They just want to "exist". I doubt they would make such a story/sequel but the ideas are all there and so very relevant to the current time we are in today, it just seems baffling Hollywood dont want to go there now. Btw i luv Tron: Legacy it was a cool sequel and the ISOs i find to be a very intriguing idea.

The ISO’s were a source of frustration for me. I can’t wrap my head around them because they were absolutely NOT explained enough in the movie. Plus. When Qorra made it to the real world, does she have DNA now? Blood? Cells? I mean. Can she reproduce? It’s too unexplained.

Well, I guess since she and the ISOs were a natural creation from the grid and they have digital DNA that's similar to humans, Quorra and the ISOs would be able to exist in the real world. This could also explain how CLU planned on actually being able to take over the world with his other programs. I assume what he planned on doing to Quorra was to extract some of her DNA, produce it, and multiply it how many times to give to all members of his army. Or, he and the programs could already have it within them as we could assume CLU extracted some DNA from the ISOs he slaughtered during the Purge and only needed Sam to open the portal to carry out his plan.

There's possibilities with how video games and computer technology has advanced that there could be an interesting story about Cora and Sam's child...maybe, going back and having Tron now help this child on the grid due to some revolution taking part that's messing up or causing issues in the real world. The child has potential but ultimately realizes they have a gift within the grid where it is activated. A sentient hybrid of organic matter and a being born of code. A user yet also free learning program.

Your commentary, and especially your speculation, I always find top-notch. what I would like to see from a third Tron film is for David Warner to return, and for them to use the same de-aging process that we’ve seen from Fringe to Tron Legacy to Rogue One and beyond. Because Sark is a computer generated character, I see no reason why they couldn’t use CGI to make Sark a major character. David Warner is one of the greatest actors of his generation and has an incredible career spanning several decades. He was the antagonist in the first Tron, and I would like to see him as well as Bruce Boxleitner, “Tron,”return to the franchise. IMHO, The first film had a great story and innovative special effects which many people believe were CGI, but in fact were video. The second film, legacy had a great production value and actual CGI, but was very light on story. I see the third film is an opportunity to marry a great story with great production value, and SFX to wrap up the Tron trilogy and make it really something special. Again, kudos to Nerd Cookies channel, you are doing all the right things and I have very little doubt you will be a massive KZfaqr in no time. Thanks for all the great science fiction and fantasy content that you bring, and you bring it well. #BringBackSark

i want to see how Quorra is enjoying our real world. *if* Disney fails to include her [as played by Olivia Wilde] as a star in TRON 3, they will lose out on a great plot line. I urge Disney to bring back everyone [in front or behind the camera] to make a real part 3 sequel the best it can be. Especially give TRON and his user Alan Bradley a starring roles; they were barely in Legacy - even though TRON was the title of the movie.

Apparently there have been ISOs around 1000 cycles (or presumably 13 years after the events of Legacy) with Ada and Sierra in Tron: Identity. On the notion of the latter, there's also a faction of ISOs known as Automata, who were formed after Clu 2's coup on The Grid, and believe Users are a myth. It's also revealed that Flynn created a separate Arq server for ISOs so as to protect them from Clu 2's reign. Flynn never returned once Clu 2 started his coup in the main Grid, so ISOs there were left with no User intervention, and eventually became a society of its own. During Identity, Query, a Disciple of Tron member who serves as a detective for the organization, is asked to investigate a presumed robbery at The Repository's vault, which leads him to a young ISO named Cass, who (and I'm heading into spoiler territory) knew that the Arq Server this Grid was hosed on would eventually die, and that it would start anew.

Definitely want to see how the isomorpg girl affected humanity as Flynn suggested she would. Another series that has great lore that I didn't even know about is Halo. I've watched Halo lore channels and I had no idea of the detailed history and science of the universe. Very cool subject to cover.

I really enjoyed this video, thank you. I do wonder about the parts at 1:38 (they can't be programmed, or controlled) and at 7:28 (..reprogrammed and transformed) which seems to contradict each other.

I’m curious what more could go into a third Tyron movie. I suppose there could be an introduction of more grids in different singular colors with different designs, and or the isos could escape into the human world or and get wiped out.

Great topic, right because Cora is the last KNOWN iso so there has to be unknown to create balance. A redemption arc would make me happy and usually makes it more fun to watch. To add to my previous speculation on MCP could have not been completely deleted and been knocked back to the original chess program still broken and someone builds a new MCP but uses ISO/user programming? Everything seems like a mirror though order 66, Matrix 6th version, someone is always trying to get rid of someone technology is supposed to assist mankind into a better tomorrow as long as there is a tomorrow!

I know this is a leap, but hear me out: I think THIS could explain the "deviants" in Detroit Become Human. ISO's in the digital world sought escape from their torment at the hands of the Basics. When humanity developed the necessary technologies to create an artificial being, the ISO's saw this as an opportunity to "live" and potentially rise to sentience. I think that was the difference as ISO ARE sentient. They invaded the computers that programmed the androids and volia!! The "deviants" came into existence. So maybe Connor, Dobbie, and Marcus owe their lives to the ISO's that made them sentient. It would be great to tie the two together and see the androids recreate the work of Kevin Flynn and return to the grid to free the ISO's and give them life among the androids of Detroit.

Edit: Even Quorra could have been the reason for the deviants. She is the last ISO but combined with Kevin Flynn's disc, her DNA could potentially host an infinite number of new ISO's.

My belief was that Kevin got rid of the Encom system. Based on how the MCP almost took over the planet, and based on Kevin’s more consumer-friendly and less business-focused approach to Encom, I think they probably chose to keep that kind of power away from the mega corporation. The Grid was probably more like his personal pet project that sprouted into a much more ambitious and profound endeavor.

@@TheAlienGangster The Grid was on a private server; The ENCOM server still exists. That's how Sam was able to hack the ENCOM OS 12 product launch in Legacy with the video of his dog Marv.

@@chj2 I always assumed that was just a normal server, not the special kind we saw in original Tron. In original Tron, it was implied that the Encom server was just a normal server and all computers had a world inside them, but Legacy retconned it where the 1982 system and the Grid were special systems, which I much prefer.

If Tron 3 didn't happen, I don't see why Disney can't expand the TRON universe like TRON: Uprising. Rogue One and Solo and do a spin-off movie about Quorra.

Pretty sure that’s not a plot point from Uprising or the films. They’re probably from Tron Evolution or Tron Betrayal (the prequel video game and comic series).

The Bostrumites were from TRON: Evolution. They didn't really show them in Uprising.

In my eyes the movie did fantastically incredibly great it was excellent far surpassing every movie after it up to today and again in my eyes and ears people were not ready, let's be honest, people were not ready at all. They didn't expect that and the movie was far far beyond its time. Way way ahead still to now in my eyes it really was far way ahead of its time. But for some reason people didn't like it well some people. Critics can ruin a movie big time they can lower a movie from having a sequel or prequel. Its time its time nah nah nah its time, bring the third movie in now. We been waiting 10 years since we were told the third one is coming and apparently no one liked the trailer for the third Tron I mean shouldn't we have given them a chance to finish the project so we see what was is stock for us. But Critics crushed them especially when the trailer came out and boom no more and no 2nd trailer. What happened!!!?

They could maybe do that, but we don’t even know if Quorra’s human body has 1:1 the same functions a human does. She has a hybrid body, that was formed by the laser upon her exit, so she’s unpredictable. That makes me wonder how the laser made her a new body and remade her genetic code. Programs have fundamentally different physiology from humans. They don’t have organs. They’re just simulated as code.

The next move or movies need to stay aligned with the original story from the 1980's or it will become too departed and fractured threatening the older fan base. If it was up to me the next installments would start with limited exposure to the Tron world in the computer and play more on how much the physical world really has changed since the late 70's through the 80's, the progression of GAMING and industrialization that leads to the development of AI, that ironically had already existed since before Flynn entered the computer universe in first movie. Will AI take over the world as something of recent history created by man or will it be the result of an AI that manifested naturally because the conditions were ideal? The Tron story should have a great ending one day but it needs to not try achieving it with over bloated CGI action scenes or overly dramatic drama scenes; stick to the Gaming good story telling and the fight for some- thing. Sam Flynn should take over the company put his big boy suit on and become an executive whit Cora as they seek to expand Flynn Inc. and protect the secret of the parallel universe. Most of all how dose Cora fit into this dimension can she change her clocking speed dose she have WiFi or Bluetooth dose she like it here?
