Her Majesty's Foot Guards march back to Wellington Barracks after rehearsing for Trooping the Colour 2014 on Horse Guards Parade, London
Marches included are:
'Voice of the Guns' by Alford
'By The Left' by Bashford
'Back to Camp' by Blankenburg
and 'Arnhem' by Kelly

This is the way bands should sound, they play the marches like they believe them, not like a concert band forced to march.

Great video troopingadmin. Col. Rodney Bashford's March is one I had not heard before. 'Back to Camp' being played again as on the 2011 Parade return to Buckingham Palace.

Any military bandsmen out there in facetube land help me with this.? This band marches, suddenly stops and marks time for a few bars then all stop at exactly the same moment. Questions.. How do you know when to suddenly stop marching and mark time? There must be a given number of ' left right, left right..stop when you mark time so what are you watching for, who gives the signal and what stops the bandsmen at the back from colliding with the ones at the front? It's an absolute joy to see, but how do you do it?

curlyjim2550 A bit difficult to see here but the signal to halt and mark time is being given by the drum major nearest to the camera. The mace is held up reversed so that the entire band can see the tip of it. It is then held pointing to the left for a few paces as a warning that the mark time is about to be signalled. The drum major quickly moves the tip of the mace over to the right, immediately swinging it down leftwards in a circular movement and the bass drummer beats a loud tap which is the signal for the band to halt and mark time.

troopingadmin Thanks very much for the info. I had an idea that it was the drum major who gave the signal but I couldn't see what signal he gave. Very smart and very impressive to see.

@@curlyjim2550 You'll actually see the signal being given by the nearest Drum Major and the loud beat from the bass drummer from 5 mins onward.

Hi troopingadmin Peter Eames Here Great selection of Marches I must admit Voice of the Guns is without doubt a Classic to March off Horse Guards and follow that with By The left BY Lt Col Rodney Bashford which is one march I have not heard of until now it is a March incorporating Sunset and sounds very Good. Back to camp is a fine march BY Backenburg and was last used in the trooping the Colour in 2011 The March Arnhem by Kelly is a good march to finish with as The Guards march back into Wellington Barracks after a fine Rehearsal. Who is the Senior Drum Major now that Matthew Betts has retired I would be grateful if you can let me know. Many Thanks Petereames1

Queen's Birthday Parade is Saturday 14th June with full rehearsals on the previous two Saturdays.

+troopingadmin with the grenadiers coldstream and welsh who done it in 2012,13,14 and 15. my best guess is this years trooping would be the turn of the scots or irish guards
