Using a garbage bag may undermine the purpose of the web bag. The cutting blade is made to also create a force fan effect and blow the cut grass out the cutting deck side and up the chute. If you have a solid bag/ plastic bag, the air can't blow through and filter the grass into the bag. The solid bag will quickly pressurize and blow back the grass trying to come up the chute. Yes, you can coat the back of the bag facing the driver to limit the chemical bug killer, fertilizers... that are applied to the lawn from blowing out the bag and fully covering the driver as it did with my use, But because of the poor design, still too much material covered the driver IMO. The old bagger did not have this problem. Thanks for your input.

I used my old grass bagger on the new mower but I really had a challenge to adapt it. I had to buy the new exit shoot section from the new bagger so it would mate with the new mower properly. I then adapted a mate between the new lower shoot and my old upper shoot. Then, I had to make spacers with long bolts to get the bagger to sit level in the back. I made the wedge spacers out of pressure treated wood. I use my old bagger on the new MTD product weekly. The new bagger reviewed was so poor in quality ( IMO) that I returned it. On the new MTD, Pony mower, there was also various problems like no wheels on the cutting deck which caused lawn scalping at bump or sidewalk transitions. Long story made short, MTD told me that they don't make a wheel kit for this mower so I had to get the one they told me to buy 3 months earlier and remake it. Point is, if you are handy, you might be able to compensate for quality and design problems. Best of luck.

@@jayj429 yeah the Pony doesn't have wheels on the cutting deck. This was one more reason I took the Bronco and 1 half more horses. Sears is going out of business and selling craftsman grass catcher for @$163 and a double bar bumper for $25. Just eyeballing the craftsman it looks just like my Troy-bilt. Thanks

I had to purchase a new bottom tube section that hooks to the mowing deck. The old bagger tube ( top section ) fit inside the new bottom section and went the 2 ft beyond into the top of the bagger hood/ top. So I had a new bottom and an old upper tube that I cut to length and used stainless screws to keep them together at the right length and angle. Then I had to cut wood wedges to make the old bagger sit level on the new mower. The wood wedges were bolted to the new mower frame to correct the angles. I have been using the old bagger with modifications on the new mower since. I hope this helps.

Keep researching like you are and you will find your best option. I cut the grass today and my MTD/ Troy Bilt mower in less than 2 years old and has issues. Keep in mind how small my lawn actually is from the video ( guessing not much over 1/8 acre of lawn). The mower can refuse to move when it is in gear and the vibration from the first day seemed excessive as it was today. I wish that I had researched more or found a mower of better quality. As you can see from a previous reply, I returned the bagger because of the poor quality issues and adapted my 25 year old bagger to this mower.

Hi Joseph, I had to adapt my old bagger and it was challenging. The best start is to find a quality bagger and make measurements compared to your MTD frame. I then bought the lower chute from the poor bagger that I reviewed so I had a proper fit at the bottom to a tube. I hope this helps.

Hi Beth, that was a problem for me too. The mower would vibrate way too much from the factory and the design allow grass to shoot out the front. The vibration would damage bears so I thought the grass out the front, lack of better air force up the tube and vibration (while the deck was cutting) may be a cutting blade problem. I purchased good quality new blades and hand balanced them. It did reduce all the problems noted. I should also mention that I returned that poor quality bagger and adapted the old one shown in the video for the Pony mower. I hope this helps.

TYPO correction: The vibration would damage " bearings "

New bagger was so bad and unhealthy ( IMO) by allowing lawn chemicals sucked up to cover the driver that I finally gave up and returned the new bagger and kept the mower. The 1992 era bagger has no visible numbers and I adapted it to the new mower by buying the lower chute and mated it to the tube. I then had to modify the mount to the mower with wood.

I just bought this same tractor. Been checking for baggers. It seems clear the ‘92 has a better design.
