Tru-Fi Rat Pack review
Here's my review of the Rat Pack from Tru-Fi. Based on the classic Rat distortion, the Rat Pack offer three different clipping stages - Turbo, Classic and Sweet. Being a huge fan of the Rat, this might be the very best sounding on the market today!

When you broke-out the Strat . . . it was Over. OMG = just Killer tone and playing. I was never-a-fan of the Rat, but this one is like a studio-processed Rat. Sounded great. Always enjoy your "Tasty" phrasing. oNe LovE from NYC

That lead sound at the end is why I love the rat.

The ratpack turbo jam sounded like a mix of Misfits, Black Sabbath and Smashing Pumpkins. Jam at the end was pure Gil.

Wow, that sounds great. It might just be the playing, but I suspect it's both. Seems smoother than the other Rats I've heard on KZfaq. I've never l played one, but this has definitely got me interested. Thanks Bjorn!

Still the best demos on any channel on KZfaq Bjorn! You made that thing sound great. I have a Kinnatone Mischief modded Rat. I'd love to get your take on that pedal. I bought it from Kinnatone effects on Ebay.

Depends on what amp you pair it with. Rat style pedals has A LOT of mid range, so they usually like amps with less.

Great demo! Was that a slap delay during the “sweet” portion or was it like a room reverb? Great sound that I would like to try to copy :)

That's just a very small room reverb and a hint of delay around 600ms.

There's a bit of spring and delay (aprox 600ms) added in the mix.

I've always loved your swirling clean tones (like in the third sample). What effect do you typically use for that kind of tone, Uni-Vibe?

The rhythm guitars? That's a clean amp with a Dunlop Rotovibe.

I’ve got what I think is a Rat plug-in on my universal audio Apollo console and it sound nasty bad not nasty good. Maybe I just don’t know how to use it. Thanks for the video. Maybe I will learn something.

I wish pedal makers would get rid of the toggle switch and make different modes footswitchable. What is the clean up like with guitar volume?

I agree! I know pedal real estate is valuable and all, but one pedal that does more is still better than 2 pedals, in my opinion.

Björn, nice pedal, yeah. But, have you tried the Mooer Black Secret (Vintage RAT plus Turbo RAT)? It would be great if you could do a test of it finding several Gilmour's tones! Thanks, mate.

They’d be damn fools if they didn’t. Andertons did a blindfold comparison of 4 rats (iirc) including boutiquers and the Mooer. I honestly could barely tell ANY difference between them, and in true blind, you’d probably pick any.

Hi Bjorn, that sounds very good! Thanks for the review! Do you know what IC is inside? The original LM308? Anyway I'm a bit disappointed by the name, since JHS had already come out with the name "Rat pack" (which I own by the way and sounds amazing) for their modified RAT2.

I believe you are wrong. The tru fi Ratpack existed before the jhs packrat. Also, the names aren’t the same are they? One is ratpack (a la the crooners) and one is packrat (ie a hoarder, since it has 9 “versions”). So maybe be disappointed with JHS since they were second here. Why be disappointed in anyone though? Everyone is just trying to make their best version of these desirable pedals. Lots of what JHS and all these guys do is derivative bc the demand is for circuits that already exist but are scarce. Anyway, I think your timeline is off. Tru fi launched their pedal first. JHS has done mods to production rats for a long time if that’s what you’re referring to.

@@andrewhartnett2140 first of all chillax buddy. Packrat or Ratpack...it's the same...anyway I'm talking about the modded pedal (which I own) sold by JHS with the mod preinstalled. It was called "Pack rat" and was a modded ProCo Rat 2. So it's your timeline which needs a check. So before sounding so arrogant, next time take a look at the date of the post (which was before the new JHS Packrat pedal was out) and most importantly ask yourself if the guy posting may know what he says.

I didn’t say you dont know anything dude. A simple case of I thought you may be wrong. You still spoke in an unclear way about the pedals so I wasn’t sure. You didn’t bother to bring up modded versions and all that until after the fact. I think you sound like a whiny bitch. I don’t know anything and I’m able to admit that.
