In, this video I show you have to save a few bucks and fix your broken tailgate on your own. You may be able to add a spring to the outside or fix the broken spring on the inside. My symptom was that my tailgate would not shut or lock. Thanks for watching.

Yes, there are plenty of things that I can't fix. You never know unless you try. One thing about me is I don't stop trying, most times I find solutions, but sometimes I can' t figure it out. Thanks for watching. Bob

Great video! Where did you buy the new elbow? How did you get it in the latch?

I wish that were true. I have tried to fix many things that I was not successful with. I just spent an hour trying to fix my wife's steam mop, and now I have a bunch of hoses, hose clamps, and a 20" cord. Those parts will come in handy, but I'm still wondering why that thing did not work? Thanks for commenting good to hear from you. Bob

Very cool stuff. I guess you could have just replaced the spring too. They probably don't sell just the spring though.
@doublewide6

Actually, the spring is not for sale. However, if I broke mine I would have put on a new spring. However, the springs are welded in place with heavy (3/8") rivits. If the spring breaks, you will need to grind off the rivet and reweld it back on with a new spring. So the bottom line, it could be done. Thanks for commenting. How is the chainsaw mill working out? I could use some planks.

Great job! (Oh, and I LOVE that step you showed at the end! I've used friends' and family members' pickups, and getting in and out of the back is not easy for an old fat lady like me! That step would be perfect!!!)

The step is a little expensive, but if you use your truck a lot it is a worthwhile investment. Thanks Bob

Good on as usual Bob. I'm going to look into the truck step. That looks real neat. Did your truck come with the hydraulic assist or did you put it on. Take care
@doublewide6
@doublewide6 7 жыл бұрын
I put the hydraulic assist on a little while back, I like it especially when I am carrying something. Also it is safer with the kids playing around in the bed of the truck. The step is really nice, it is pricey, but these new trucks are too high to be jumping up and down all day long. It makes a world of difference and it simply bolts onto existing bumper bolts.

Nice fix on the latch. Did you buy that license plate cover at Getaway Car Depot? I need one of those in the worst way haha

You could call that license plate cover custom made.

One of those deals, you can't just order the spring, because the catch probably doesn't come apart. The way of the world. Throw away a $70 catch because a $1 spring broke. That fix would cost you close to $100 I bet at a dealer, counting labour. That $70 stays in your pocket at least for now. Nice fix. KIT d

Yeah, I think it will hold up because I put the spring through the hole, so it is not over-streched from what I can tell.

A tip for next time. Probably don't go in that access port often so while in there might make sense to lube and treat all pivots and linkages.

that hole idea looks better than just having it hooked over that latch arm.. looks more positive.

I guess there is a little flat relief where the spring sits on the bottom of the metal piece. If I did not have the hole the spring would not reach. Hopefully it does not break. Thanks again for taking the time to comment, you are a regular and I appreciate it. Thanks Bob

It's always frustrating when they advertise how great their vehicles are, then rip the heck out of you when it comes time to keep it running. Nice $100 save, Bob.

Thanks, luckily I have not had to buy too many of them. Many parts are available after market, that is how I did my rear bumper replacement and the step rails. Sensors, I always go OEM. Thanks for commenting. Bob

Amazon is a dangerous dangerous site. Go on there for one 7 dollar part and end up with 150 bucks in your cart. Those "suggested items" know me well

The good thing about amazon is that they have everything. That's why I always go there. If you can't find it on Amazon try ebay. If it is not on either of those websites, Good Luck. Take Care. Bob
