Here's a few tips on how to balance your load when you pick it up at a shipper. If you use these tips I show you in the video, you should be able to scale and balance your load faster and put more miles on the odometer.. Any questions, feel free to drop me a comment...

Always slide tandems toward the heavier weight
@TheLowlyTraveller
@TheLowlyTraveller 11 жыл бұрын
Depending on which direction you slide the axles, each hole you slide will shift approx. 300 lbs. For example, if you slide your tandems forward 4 holes, you have shifted 1200 lbs from your drives to your trailer axles. (4 holes x 300 lbs/hole = 1200 lbs). Hope this helps.

That makes one of us. My trainer never even mentioned it. What a shit trainer. And I passed my upgrade test. So in 3 days they're sending me out on my own to drive solo. And I am completely clueless. Am I nervous? Nah. What could go wrong.

As long as your drive axles and trailer axles are at or below 34000 lbs you are legal. Sometimes the way a shipper loads the trailer makes it next to impossible to balance it out perfectly. I had a load that weighed in at 34000 lbs exactly on my drives and 31500 lbs on my trailer. Although it wasn't balanced, it was still legal. Hope this helps.. Thanx for watching!

Nice info. I worked for the railroad (now retired). My office kept tabs of the intermodal shipments. Much cargo would come into Long Beach & transfer from ship to rail for movement to Chicago. Once in Chicago it would often go over the road to an Indiana or Ohio receiver. I know that the drivers would usually have the load scaled before leaving Chicago for the East. Often they would have to shift the tandems. Thanks for explaining how that works!

You’re awesome man great video it’s extremely helpful and nice n simple! Unfortunately my OTR trainer was really unable to teach me this because he kinda guessed with it.. 6 months OTR training with him we never hit a scale not once! Not being negative.. the guy must known what he was doing because we never got a ticket! Now I know the process though, thanks!

Depending on the weight of each pallet, they may load a few singles in the middle to balance the weight better. I was unable to see how they loaded this one. And yes, you can slide your tandems forward of California bridge and be legal in all 50 states. California just doesn't want the tandems farther than 40 ft. of the kingpin. You can be closer to the kingpin if you want. Hope this helps.

I'm guessing you picked up a AB. They do a pretty good job loading there. Usually if you set the tandems at California Bridge you'll be spot on. It worked for me anyways.

I've run into that problem last week with the mudflaps being ripped off. Apparently the yard dog hit the curb too fast with the trailer and ripped both mudflaps off in the process. Needless to say I wasn't happy. Concerning the diesel as a lube, I have a can of PB Blaster I carry with me in the truck, and I also heard that dish soap works well. Thanx for the advice.

There's one thing you didn't mention in this video concerning weight distribution. That is how much fuel you have in your tanks. If you pick up a load with close to empty tanks you have to remember the added weight of the fuel you get. Just a thought from a driver of O.T.R. of 10 years.

@TheLowlyTraveller
@TheLowlyTraveller 4 жыл бұрын
Certain loads may not allow you to get it perfectly balanced. Stick to the bridge laws first. As long as the weights are under the threshold (12k steer, 34k drive/trailer, 80k gross) you're good to go.
