I agree, I read this book called " the richest man in babylon" in the book one of the old wise rich man's Lessons was. "Listen to the craftsman not the loud mouth" meaning you don't listen to the blacksmith about building a house you Listen to the carpenter. Basically if you want good trucking advise, listen to the successful trucker.

Haha the melrose jewels sucks big time lol they always take 5hr plus One time a pallet got rejected and they wanted me to go elsewhere to restack it so I went back to jewels the following day and they took it off no issue with 1st shift workers.

What gets me is you're on the phone with brokers all the time, begging for detention, scale ticket recompense, etc. You're using your own fuel cards. The only thing your carrier seems to do for you is find these loads, provide a trailer (some with lousy seals or reefer units), and collect payment from brokers, and maybe one or two other back office type things. How many of these brokers do you have on speed dial? How many of these guys can recognize you the second they hear your voice? You could go full O/O and take one full day off every week to do paperwork, book loads, and collect payment. Boom that's 20% of the work week, and you wouldn't even have to drive! Just a thought. Equipment is cheap right now.

If I work an average of 6 days a week. Taking off one day would be 16% of my week. So I'm going to take all that risk for an extra 4%. Also loads like that $5,000 load from Colorado would not be available to me. That broker does not work with single truck owner operators. So, I would be pulling the spot market not loads that my carrier has been doing for over 10 years and has worked on those relationships.

@@CashisKingtrucking yeah, offloading 800 boxes of bealls in 95 degree weather, I threatened my boss I'd quit if he put me on it or any other driver offload again. They don't pay well as a company driver and the ER visit ain't worth it.

@@CashisKingtrucking This was my question and scenario…. Thank you Cash! Hey Cash , I’m running Regional for an outfit in the southeast doing intermodal. Putting around 2500 to 3000 miles a week on the truck but home 3 out of 7 nights mostly sometimes 4. After fuel and fixed expenses (insurance and stuff) which is only about $105 a week I’m netting about $1.10 to $1.15 a mile . Only other cost is upkeep/maintenance on my truck and taxes. Most of the loads are light less than 30K lbs and pulling empties as well, All drop n hook…. We only have one customer in the regional OTR division that has 40 to 44K lbs loads and I don’t do much of those , at least I try not to, lol. I’m running a 19 KW with Cummins efficiency series engine getting 7.5 to 8.2 mpg depending on load. Should I stay or should I go ? 😉 Just wondering what other options there might be …. ?

40k should be the weight limit it’s really unsafe in todays traffic pushing that 44k-45k they change all the other laws but none to benefit real safety
