Diesel is awesome! But I'm more of a Gasser. Unless you tow 10,000+lbs it's hard to justify a diesel, diesel's cost a lot more to run but of course saving money isn't a motor heads concern lol. I personally like the sound of modified gas motor. But their all cool!

I cannot decide because I love both.... It true about the cost of diesel, but if do the maintenance it will last you a lifetime! Yes gas is cheaper my 03 Silverado has 492k on the original motor and it has been religiously maintained and not scared to go across country with it.

Have a 2000 Ford- 10 cyl. Daily driver. 60,000 miles on her Never had any issues. Rented a F- 650 Dump-Ford. Has the same Engine the 10 Ford did it on those bigger body's for fleet PROPANE conversation BOY talk about no power pulling the hill to bring the 5/8's gravel to my home. There just was no power at all, on a full load. Now let's talk about my 8-71 Detroit When I drive the 36000 pound beast with that Detroit, raised stacks straight up. And it is that wonderful Detroit sound. It gets into 5th, gear fast 1500 RPM sweet spot to shift. It runs like a raped ape. And there's power to spare. But for daily driver, I like the gas engine in my PU. Only thing I pull with it is a 6000 pound boat. But I alway sling it in water. Never used a boat ramp.

Everyone wants to diesel, until they gotta pay for repairs. I went diesel because I don't want to ever question if my truck can tow/haul anything I have or plan to buy. I wouldn't buy a newer diesel as there's too many EGR components to fail and the repair costs are high! I have an LB7 as my daily and don't ever regret buying it as my first diesel.

@@jonnyg9330 ya but i live 1 mile from work and my boat weighs 7000 also the same thing others have said the oil changes and filters almost double every time you change your oil. In winter diesels suck take forever to warm up my work truck has high idle that's nice but i like my truck warm in a couple blocks the work truck won't even get warm if ya working in town and not towing. All that said if ya going down the highway at 80 big trailer, boat or nothing behind ya taking the diesel hands down everytime. Ok one more and I'm done when i go hunting and it rains your done your stuck tell it dries up and off roading wet or not in a diesel sucks ya it works but the half ton just rides on top and the front end goes where i point the wheel, ya can turn full lock and the diesels just stay in the rut like what because your wheels are turned you think your getting out? If you tow under 8000 lbs occasionally you probably don't need a diesel. If you tow over 8000 lbs often you may need a diesel but not necessarily. I tow a 11,000 lbs camper 6-10 times a year and my 3/4 ton gas engine does a good job 9 mpg I can still pass slower cars fine at 65 mph. If you want to pay $10,000 more for the same truck higher fuel prices more in maintenance nock yourself out just because some people tell you gas engines aren't cool.

Honestly, I don't need a diesel for my trailer. The resale value just makes sense though. Especially now. I ordered a 2500 Duramax and plan to keep it 3-5 years and then sell it while it still has a hint of warranty on it. If things stay the same, I should get most of my money back. If I bought a gasser, that just wouldn't be the case. Meanwhile, I get effortless towing and a fully covered vehicle for awhile. I was lucky enough to sell my house and buy a nicer one in a new area for less so I have the extra funds for it. It's a unique situation.

I drive 04 8.1 gas daily. Bought truck 8 yrs ago from original owner with 40k miles. Delivered from Oregon to Texas 23k$. Diesel truck at time was 15k more money with same miles or 100k miles plus for same money. Have friend with same year 8.1 380 k miles never out of truck only alternator and same suspension issues as diesel. I have allison trans. I have 150 k miles now only alternator also. Oil change tire rotation at Chevy dealer 39$ here. Yes I get 10 mpg all day long . I tow every day I drive and deliver trailers from 12 ft to 40 ft park models. I pull as well at 60 as company truck 6.4 diesel does 75. But that truck and my friends diesels need injectors regularly . I can rebuild my entire motor for a set of duramax injectors. I love the new diesels but until they go back to getting double mpg over gas like 90s and pre def I am scared of them. I also drive semis and large prevost foretravel buses all over nation that are diesel powered and the power is amazing. I keep my truck under 22 combined and allow for fuels and slower time but gas has its place. The new 7.3 ford is amazing I hear and see on internet. But I don’t like fords. I am hoping gm comes out with another big block. The 8.1s are very reliable. Mine has a built allison, leveled, kryptonite full front suspension, 33s, Bradford built flat bed and nitro 4.56s with lockers front and back. I think a cummins swap to mine would be neat. Drive a pre def 24 valve regularly also.

I bought my lly just after my dad bought his first duramax much less his first diesel in 2007. I love diesel because you can throw bolt-ons and see a great return for the money. Also I love the big billets look!! You can throw big wheels on and it hardly hurts your fuel economy and you don’t have to upgrade to a big brake kit. Everything about diesel is heavy duty

Had to start out on a hill and had to put the truck in 4 wheel low to get moving. Went the next day and got a 2 wheel drive GMC dually with a 6.2. No turbo but I never had a problem pulling anything after that.

I work on pipelines here in Canada, every company I’ve worked for only buys gas powered pickups for the crews as they are cheaper to repair and usually don’t need much work anyway. Underpowered yes, especially towing mini excavators and stuff but still cheaper in the long run.

Same in North Dakota when I worked up there hauling fuel and propane in the oil field, the emission diesels were always down, the DEF frozen, emission and sensor issues, the list went on and on. And no one could fix the damn things, we had five trucks, only one would actually be usable at any given time. The diesels were simply not worth all of the headaches they bring to the table. Chevrolets were pretty popular, the 6.3 and the smaller 1500's for the crew trucks were in high demand. I can see these new Ford Godzilla motors gaining popularity up there too, heard many good things about those.

And honestly I'm a truck driver so I do get my fill of the spooling of the turbo and diesel sounds and torque, I do get a bonus though I have a 3 stage jake brake lol. I am looking at toy hauler campers and have thought hard on a diesel but still believe I can get by with the gas as I'm looking at a 10,000 pd and under trailer! Great video thanks for sharing!

I like both, I have a 95 Chevy Z71 stepside with a TBI 350 5 speed standard at over 400k which is one of my favorite trucks GM ever built. Plus I love the sound of a old V8. I have a 97 GMC 3500 HD cab chassis flatbed with the 6.5 Detroit 5 speed standard with around 121k. I love this truck because it's a true HD truck. Plus it's better built than the 2000+ era trucks. It's not a fast truck but you can haul just about anything you want up to between 7-8k. (Hauling not towing capacity) Last but not least I have a 06 Duramax crew cab dually with the LLY engine with a 6 speed standard in it with over 434k on it. This was my first diesel truck I purchased with over 323k on it. It's been a very reliable truck one of my daily drivers. It's not perfect, purchased the truck when it was ragged out about 5 years ago. Had to replace all the injectors in her which I am still paying for. Lol. Just trying to fix the ol girl up, hopefully in a couple years it will be completed. Very happy with the truck though. Summary, I prefer diesels over gas because it's simpler to work on just more expensive with the repairs. I drive a 02 Volvo at work with over 1.8 million miles on it with no major engine work on it. I have put about a million miles on it myself, one of the best semis I ever drove. Just pick which ever one is right for you.

I actually own both. I have a 1999 GMC Sierra 2500 with a 6.0 and a 2009 GMC Sierra 3500 Duramax. I bought the duramax to pull my 9000 lb fifth wheel. The gasser will pull it but you can definitely tell it’s working hard. And as someone stated … you work all weekend just to get a few more horses out of a gasser. I put a Vinci custom ground cam with headers and true dual exhaust and a custom tune only to gain maybe 60 ho in the gasser. In my duramax I deleted it, put a 4 inch down pipe back exhaust and a tow haul tune on it and it will pull way better than my gasser. Yeah they are way more expensive than a gas motor, I have to put injectors in it now, but longevity of a diesel can’t be beat, and the power to tow can’t be matched.

Having a Diesel and doing to them what you guys are doing is just a following like a cult or an addiction. I see what you are all doing and love the results but it is way too expensive. I have a full size Silverado gas and it does everything I need even towing wise. Servicing is cheap and easy and I do it myself, gas cost is always cheaper than diesel. And if something breaks it's cheaper than the diesel. I see too many guys having pump problems or injector problems and it is very expensive. Then when they boost the heck out of them they sacrifice reliability. It's a blast, but they always working on them.

Was recently in the market for a truck. My dad has always had a 4 cylinder Toyota 4x4 that came in clutch every winter. So I looked into that but I wanted something bigger to tow bigger things. I'm not gonna tow anything 15k lbs or more if even that so I could go either way. I also didint need it to be super fuel efficient or new since I would only use it on the weekends to move things. Just a truck. My father in law has a few cummins and a 1990 Ford 250 diésel truck that sound amazing. But when asking him what to expect to pay in terms of maintenance and time it just wasn't feasible. I ended up finding a 2nd Gen dodge ram v10 dually with barely 100k miles for less than 12k and it fit my needs. I really just needed a truck since most of my mod heavy things go to my BMW. Really wish I could have a cummins but it's to far out of the way for me.

It all depends on what you need and can afford. I’ve got a 07.5 2500 dodge but I also use it a lot and it’s not my daily driver. I love it but I hated it when I had to replace the transmission and any normal service is 2X the amount on what my gas trucks was not to mention the cost of diesel. Be smart kiddos don’t break yourself just to blow some smoke!

For a more modern heavy duty truck i would choose a gasser just because I won’t have to deal with the stupid emissions. But for an older truck definitely a diesel maybe a bulletproof 6.0, a 7.3, or a 12 v.

I drove diesel for work, it was a deleted 08 ford 350 deleted and tuned, I loved it. For a personal I have 2021 Sierra 6.6 gas with 6 speed transmission, 17.1liters per 100 km. Zero problems, knock on wood, but I thinking to sell it and get low milage lb7. Still on the fence tho. I love diesels be cause POWER. Oh also, got my wife 2023 Tahoe diesel in September last year, the milage is amaizing, no problems at all, knock on wood.

Had an 04 gas half ton since 07. Started towing a bit. Instead of doing the smart thing and put new suspension in the half ton.... I drug home a diesel 04 2500 lly. Just needed some body work. And fuel lines... Tens of thousands later.... Had to sell the half ton I could always count on. So much debit I'll never get out... But I have a mechanically brand new truck..... That'll need southern body panels sooner than later.

I love both gas and diesel but when you want some hard work done and more power with reliability got to go with diesel 100%. I also have a 96 GM truck with a 454 and love it as well, has torque all day but no where as much as todays trucks. I aldo love the sound of gas trucks with exhaust but love the sound of diesel truck with the sweet turbo whistle. I love both, gas for one situation and diesel for the other 😁

Here in Vegas the difference between gas and diesel is only about 20-40 cent depending on gas station. With a 36 gallon tank, that is just a 7-14 dollar difference. The 6.2 gasser has horrible mpg compared to the 6.7 diesel. So you would come out on top with the diesel but when it comes to maintenance that’s where things will balance out. It’s always cheaper to maintain a gasser. Now when it comes to resale value, the diesel will have a higher value. Reliability? Both of them is reliable.

I own a bread distribution territory. I gave diesel a shot and it was a nightmare for emissions, but may vary by manufacturer. I had a 2017 Mitsubishi Fuso (Daimler product) cab over engine box truck, with a 3.0 turbo diesel, owned from new. I drive about 20k miles a year, so nowhere near as much as OTR drivers. But 80-90% of that is highway (to get to my territory and back) and free flowing country roads. And even when around town it is not stop and go or congested. And no idling. So I’m not putting extra stress on the emissions system. I was getting 10 mpg with the diesel and the comparable gas trucks (most use a GM 6.0) get 7mpg, both figures for loaded box truck. So I was saving $1k-$1500 a year on fuel with the diesel depending on prices per gallon difference. No issues with the drivetrain (125k mile warranty anyway), but the issues with emissions started about the time the 50k mile emissions warranty end. Wonder why it was only a 50k mile warranty, lol. Last year had a PCV filter fail prematurely (which causes a need for extra code resets and programming - something else to charge a stupid amount for) and then the DEF tank needed replaced. These emission errors generally cause a limp mode. The dealership is always backlogged at least a week so have to get a rental truck when the truck isn’t drivable. Spent $3k on emissions repairs and rentals last year. Earlier this year a NOX sensor failed, $1000 repair, $200 tow and $600 rental. Then recently had an EGR leak, $2500 repair estimate. That was the last straw. Didn’t have them fix it as it was still driveable (no permanent limp mode). So $7,300 of additional expenses related to the emissions system in less than two years. More than all of my fuel savings over my 4 years of ownership. And oil/fuel filter changes are $300 on the truck vs less than $100 for the gas, and have to buy DEF. And these issues were from 50k to 85k miles. What’s it gonna do in the next 100-200k miles, scary. For that amount of money you could probably have a brand new gas engine (GM 6.0) installed on a gas truck. Effectively doubling the life of a gas truck for the cost of 2 years of emissions repairs. Traded it in for a new gas cab over engine truck. GM 6.0 engine. Allison 1000 transmission (5 year unlimited mile warranty). A lot more power than the 3.0 turbo diesel also. I bought the diesel hoping to save money, but didn’t work out in my case. I know for extremely heavy loads, especially over a long distance, diesel may be necessary. And for lots of yearly of miles (OTR) you still can make up extra repair/maintenance costs with fuel savings and come out ahead. And the diesel engine should last longer than gas. Or if it is not a rig to make you money, and more of just a luxury item where money isn’t a concern, then emission issues probably aren’t a concern. But if someone’s situation is borderline between the two on the financial savings, I’d say gas is the way to go, until they can get these emissions systems more reliable. Cause diesel emissions is probably going to cost you more money, time and frustration than it’s worth for a lot of situations.

On a new rig, gas is the way to go. Unless it's a work truck that makes you money to offset the cost of repairing a new deisel. A new deisel is a good option if you have a way of deleting all that emissions crap. I'll take an old pre-emission or deleted rig before a new deisel or gas truck.

I have a 5.7 hemi in my 4th gen, initially I drove modified cars. I traded in for my dodge when my wife was pregnant. Need something to fit us all better, good in the winter etc. I didn’t know really anything about diesels at that point in time. ( had I known what I do now would’ve went Cummins without a doubt ) but she’s held up good , moves out, have stuff done to it . Over 420hp, lifted, wheels, tires, lights, tint same thing as everyone else does .lol.. Only owe $2200 then I’m going to a Cummins. Gotta go Diesel man, there’s no better option as far as trucks go, just need to have some cash ,knowledge and willing to put in work on it.

Before I bought my duramax I tossed some 799s on my lq4 with a camshaft from btr and a billet converter, trying to make my gas job tow better. There’s just no comparison, said gas truck now has a single 78/75 on it and it still doesn’t pull like a diesel….it needs rpm which eats fuel, diesels make their power down low. After towing long distance with a diesel I’ll never go back to gasoline

For me it makes more sense for that reason. My diesel, WELL, what can i say, MO' POWA🤣 But on a serious note the diesel truck is just fun. Even tho i could build a fun gasser to, something about the presence in a diesel is more commanding.

For me, Diesel. It's my personal preference, I've owned 3 7.3's, current family hauler is a 2000 7.3 Excursion Limited, I can rely on that truck to take us anywhere in the country with no issues. I've also owned 2 6.0 trucks. My current work truck is a 2005 6.0 F250 Lariat, and I went with that over a gas truck because I drive 50,000 miles per year and I need something that will have a longer life expectancy, as well as better fuel economy. Paying for fuel affects my life in a big way, and even though costs associated with owning and maintaining a diesel are more than a gasser, the longevity and fuel economy a diesel has out weighs the lower maintenance costs in a gas truck. The 6.0 GM gas is a fantastic motor though, and even though I'm a Ford guy through and through, I've been impressed with that engine observing the ones that family members have owned. I also have a weakness for old gas muscle, and I own a 72 Plymouth Fury with the 440, but that's apples to oranges here 😂
