I am glad that our government is taking a stand against the US. We all knew this was coming. I have been saying for years that we need to move away from trading with the USA and we have started doing just that, but not fast enough. Now we have this mess.

Other countries want our high quality steel and aluminum, no worries...exports to other places still profitable for Canadians after shipping. Be easier to rail south, but if the USA doesn’t want it, we won’t try to any force feed any Canadian products down their throats....just find new trade partners willing to sit down and make a deal. With the G-summit nearing, this is a perfect opportunity to make new friends. Keep the steel mills and aluminum smelters cookin, Mr. Trudeau....you can export elsewhere, if need be. Should these counter tariffs be in line with the USA tarriffs? Why the month delay? I don’t agree with all of your policies, however, I DO appreciate this stand you made on behalf of your Canadian citizens. Sincerely, Jim Hofoss.

It's cheaper to ship products by sea than by rail. It's also better to avoid pissing off the industry, giving them time to adjust isn't a bad thing for us to do. Especially as the Yanks are acting in bad faith by not giving their industry time...

On many issues the U.S. seems to feel that behaving like a bunch of thugs is in their best interests. Maybe it is but it leaves the rest of the world little option but to stand up to them. It really is time to reassess the role of the U.S. in the world on trade, international relations, etc. In my opinion they have become a big negative factor.

We're watching China and know what they are up to. They are patient and determined and will make a push to take over as much as they can, where as the States is rotting from within because of this current government, which in fact is not loyal to the American people or their constitution. How do you think the Americans will be protected under its current government who have many members who have ties to unsavoury governments and organizations around the World. Wilbur Ross is just one of these people who arrogantly told us that 'we'll get over it...". What about the hurt this regime will do to Americans because of these tariffs. Trump doesn't comprehend what 'win, win' situations are and how everyone can benefit from this type of situation. His weak personality feels he needs to win at all cost, but this time the costs will be too high.

The problem is that it will not work in our favor, America is the biggest industrial nation in the world, they also have the 3rd biggest population in the world. What ever raw materials they bought from us, whether lumber, steel, aluminum, or oil, they needed more of it then we could ever need or want, because they have a much bigger population then we do as well as more industry. California alone has a bigger population then all of Canada. The nature resources they were buying from us, America has, they were buying ours because of our lower dollar, yes the products made from those resources now are going to go up in America. The companies in America that sell the same resources, are going to make a bigger profit, while in Canada we are going to loss profit, unless we find another buyer. Demand plays a major role in the economic growth.

In addition Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is not telling the entire truth. He should have agreed that Central America should not have been included in Nafta. and that of the 23 countries that are a part of the current NAFTA agreement have dependent territories controlled by France, Netherlands, Denmark, And the UK. that Literally are sucking on the wealth of the USA and not Canada. Of which Canada is selling there metals to them at an enormous reduced cost.

Every time the Ottawa Government gets into a shouting match with Washington on Trade matters the Canadian consumers loose.. We loose jobs things cost more and the Taxpayer has to fork more of their income over to the Ottawa Government.. We are a country of untold wealth in RAW Materials.. We own more fresh water than any Country in the world.. We are self sufficient in Energy and Everything else that Humans need to survive..Why do we end up giving our Energy and Raw Materials away? Then our Ottawa Government Taxing our Citizens and then give our profits away to any Country that asks for a Handout? Why is that?

Yes 100% agree. We the Americans should not be the world police. War Hawks like McCain and Hillary should be banned from politics. However, your PM Mr Trudeau seems to have affection with Islamic Jihadists and all illegal aliens. He said he would welcome anyone to Canada that the US doesn't want. It's his words. Just yesterday, your govt announced to fund $50 mil to Ontario (or Ottawa) to fund the asylum seekers. You're welcome!

Interestingly the costs to individuals in both countries will go up. The majority of Americans cant find an additional 400 dollars for unexpected expenses. I suspect Canadians can. Who's going to hurt more? I suspect that the Canadian government cares more about it's citizens than the US government.

Now we can easily resort to the idea that, there IS such a thing as "US Imperialism", and Canada is no exception to be affected by that.
@bahsazad8089
@bahsazad8089 6 жыл бұрын
Imperialism is a policy of extending power and dominion by means that one of which is "gaining economic control of other nations and territories". The tariffs that imposed to Canada is a clear but small example. and it is not just imposed to Canada, it is a policy that is systematically designed to influence many nations throughout history.
@bahsazad8089
@bahsazad8089 6 жыл бұрын
In a broader context there is such a thing as US Imperialism; it is well accepted in political discourse (although mostly used by leftists) and it is not just used because now US has imposed the recent tariffs, but the recent tariffs fits well to verify the US imperialist approach. US approach of unilateral scraping of deals(Nafta, Paris agreement, Iran deal, and tariffs on Europeans,...) is bullying, and simply is rarely precedented by other countries. It seems US does not regard mutual interests of parties in agreements, but only their own interest.

Be strong and stand together as Canadian's, we are not the week knead little brother to the North, we all benefit with free and fair trade. If they get a bit rough the American's need to remember we will still benefit if our steal, oil, lumber and lets not forget water and electricity remain on our side of the border. We have the capacity to ship around the world and could allow an increase in our own manufacturing at home and will increase raw and finished products being exported to our other trading partners around the world. The President should not test us.

I like how JT Canada uses terms such as "unacceptable" inapprp[riate" "inconceivable" or if they get really aggressive they say, "non-negotiable." But in this speech he talks about how deplorable is this deal, and he feels betrayed by the US, but they sure did come back with some very acceptable retaliatory measures for Canada, and to send an appropriate message to the US. I do think his use of "deplorable" with his calm demeanor show a very different and more civil culture there is in Canada. America has always been a violent country. Canada has an interesting European settling. Their record on indigenous people is something I'd like to know more about. He comes across as a gentleman but crosses him and he's tough and highly articulate. I love his speech this year about banning the AK47 after there was a shooting in Canada. Good speech.

I'd like to take this opportunity to point out that the Canadian Prime minister speaks not only French, but English and has a much better command of both than our president who has difficulty correctly spelling the word "tap." In fact, I'm pretty sure there is a large number of Mexican immigrants who speak better English than Donald.
