Did you check out True Lies on 4K? What did you think? Or is this one a hard pass for you?

The original transfer on laserdisc and DVD were flawless. Russell Carpenter's cinematography along with T2, is the benchmark for all action films. So when it's a bit washed out, a bit milky, and the grain is gone. it ain't the same experience. They have to redo the grade. Sorry James, if it ain't broke.....

Watched it last night, and it's nothing like the terrible mess that was Terminator 2. It has moments where the image is too processed, but I'd say there are more moments that don't and look better than ever. Color saturation is far better than any release prior.

Solid review. I agree. The DNR is excessive and faces look waxy and plasticky, especially in the daytime scenes. Film grain contains detail and can be managed but should never be completely removed. This remaster flies in the face of film restoration. Not worth it.

Some people say the Blu Ray has a little better quality than the 4K, because they haven't had to upscale it like the 4K, what's true in that?

I would definitely say the abyss sounds better, I noticed things that could’ve been utilized in the true lies. Atmos mix that was very much not as dynamic as the abyss Atmos. 9:26 the last action hero Atmos track was Miles ahead of true lies, there are simple scenes when it’s raining in true lies where were some reason it was only in the center speaker, but in scenes when it was raining in the last action hero Atmos mix that was done two years ago, you could hear the rain everywhere in the Atmos speakers surrounding you, I think they’re just certain atmospheric sounds that they did not use the Atmos advantage.

As for the movie itself, I was never really a big fan of this one when it came out, I was as you can see in my last comment, a huge fan of last action, hero, and did not understand why it got so much hate, so I am glad that out of those movies, last action, hero, aged gracefully. As I watched both movies in comparison to each other the way things are today last action hero holds more relevancy about how movies can be timeless, I am watching it and I forget sometimes it’s a 90s movie. With true lies I can completely tell it’s a 90s movie, good luck, but never was my style.

I think I'll stick with the pirated version, at least it shows you the movie as it was at the time of its release, it looks a little darker, I can deal with that, but at least it preserves its details and some of the grain, it would be the equivalent to the Lionsgate 2015 version of Terminator 2, the Spanish pirate version, that edition is like the most redeemable of Terminator 2, even with its problems and everything, it retains the grain and the details, only with a slightly contrast wash and blacks that are soft, not strong. The pirated version of True Lies looks pretty good, it's just that it has more intense contrasts and therefore the blacks look quite strong, already going a bit over the top, but at least we can have more details and grains than in this new 4K version.

I think the original scan was so degraded that this was the best they could do to restore it.

I understand why people hate film grain as i am one of them i don't mind fine grain it's the heavy grain i hate

Hey, where can I get these physical copies online? They are not on Amazon and on eBay are super expensive

I used to like the movie when I was a kid, but... later on I've realized that it's not for me. 😜However, I am happy that the movie has finally got at least this as for an upgrade. 😇 Gosh, they took so long to release it on the Blu-Ray that by the time I completely stopped caring about it - here we are, having an interesting 4K Blu-Ray release...! 😂😂😂 A very positive and detailed review, thank you! 😁👍

Never much been a fan of True Lies. Not that its bad but its not at the level for me to over spend on it to import it into Australia (Screw Disney for not doing physical media in Australia). I have the DVD and the seven seas has a 70GB copy to 'try out' and tempt me. The Abyss though was a no brainer. Had to have that one! Love that movie. Paid through the nose to get it imported. I have no clue where to buy these 3 titles. Walmart doesn't sell them. I don't see them on Amazon. Is there a website or store when I can find these titles?

Now that they know the response, they might secretly release new transfers of each title separately for their next and upcoming 5-year anniversaries. And for all we know, James Cameron has the proper copy and the copy he has served us all as test copies for peasants. Why? Because 'he is the king of the world!' 😭🤣
