Great band from the 70's-80's. They were a rock & roll band with horns & blended elements of classical music, jazz, R&B, & pop music. They had a lot of great songs such as "Does Anybody Really Know What Time It Is?", "Beginnings", "Feelin' Stronger Everyday", "Questions 67 & 68", "I'm A Man", "If You Leave Me Now", "Hard To Say I'm Sorry", "Saturday In The Park", "Colour My World", "You're The Inspiration", "Will You Still Love Me?", "Look Away", "Old Days" etc.

Peter Cetera got in a fight. Four marines didn't like a long-haired rock 'n' roller in a baseball park," he later recounted. "And of course I was a Cub fan, and I was in Dodger Stadium, and that didn't do so well. I got in a fight and got a broken jaw in three places, and I was in intensive care for a couple of days." While he recovered, he admitted it did literally impact his craft. "The only funny thing I can think about the whole incident is that, with my jaw wired together, I actually went on the road," he explained. "And I was actually singing through my clenched jaw, which, to this day, is still the way I sing."

Chicago - so based, so diverse, so blended. So much sound, so much talent. They have a huge catalog of really good songs, including Saturday in the Park, Beginnings, Does Anybody Really Know What Time It Is?, et al. Jimi Hendrix was quoted as saying that he thought Terry Kath played guitar better than he did. It was later on reported that Jimi Hendrix also called Terry Kath the “Best Guitarist in the Universe.”

Bro, In my humble opinion, that is one of the best live guitar solos ever recorded. There are many to choose from...but...For the time (1970) no one played like that. There are many legendary guitarists from this time frame, but not one of them played like Terry Kath at the time. Great reaction👍✌

Jimmy Hendrix was a big fan of the lead guitarist here, Terry Kath. The drummer is Danny Seraphine who is well respected as a drummer. Being from Chicago I have seen them many times dating back to the late '60s when they called themself the CTA. The Chicago Transit Authority. Enjoy!💕

I think the studio version is important to listen to because you can really hear the instruments better, especially the bass. They're a little muddled in this live version, it might be the quality of the video, but it's still great to hear it live and the guitar solo in this live version is great, but I think the guitar solo on the studio version is amazing. One big difference between then and today is that bands back then were made up of real musicians and singers. The music was as important as the words and the musicians were absolutely incredible. Most fans knew every musician in these bands. From a talent perspective, the musicians were often as famous as the lead singer.

Go dig up their debut album when they were known as The Chicago Transit Authority and play these two tracks: "Introduction" and "Poem 58". Guitar player Terry Kath wrote it and sang lead vocals. He was called "The White Ray Charles" by his bandmates. Soulful baritone voice! "Poem 58" is nine minutes of PURE FUNK led by Terry Kath on guitar, Danny Seraphine on drums, and Peter Cetera on bass. Kath's guitar will have you needing an ice pack for your jaw after you pick it up from the floor! When they were The Chicago Transit Authority, they were the house band at the Whisky a Go Go in LA. One night between sets, Jimi Hendrix went to their dressing room after catching the first set. He walked up to their sax player Walt Parazaider and said, "You guys have a horn section that sounds like one set of lungs and a guitar player that's better than me! You wanna go on the road?" They said "YEAH!". And that's how they became Hendrix's opening act on a national arena tour. If you want a longer Chicago song, the closing track of their debut double LP album is the track "Liberation". It runs almost 15 minutes and is a solid jam session!

Sorry to double dip, but "These are some of the coolest white boys I've ever seen"! Nothing beats early Chicago (CTA).

I agree! When I was growing up in the ‘70s, we had to pick an instrument and learn how to play it, and we had to sing in the church choir. I complained, but I can read music and play some guitar and piano, and I’m grateful now. Imagine if every kid learned one instrument. We would have a lot more music.

In a live version of this song they also introduced the band members as they were playing. That was a wonderful reaction to your first listen of Chicago. Brass has always been core to Chicago's sound. That guitar solo from hell is thanks to being live in concert. Album solos tended to be shorter, but at a show? Oh Yeah, that's why you buy a ticket!. Hell, they got hits throughout the 80's too (Most notable being Hard to Say I'm Sorry). I'm fond of Stay The Night myself. The MTV Video for that one is fun.

He didn't say, "Take Care!" - but he said, "Terry Kath!" - that was the keyboard player and writer, Robert Hamm that said it. Peter Cetera, Terry Kath, and Robert Hamm all had leads in different songs. Jimi Hendrix spoke very highly of Terry Kath. Sadly, in 1978 Terry took a revolver to his head, thinking it was not loaded... bang! Very sad ending for Kath. Please give a tribute band a try that does many Chicago songs, "Leonid and Friends" - if you watch them, not only do they sound very similar to Chicago, but they give Chicago a very solid name!

Great song. The combination of instruments makes this song terrific. My piano player friend played a simple piano part at the beginning (starting at the :42 minute mark on this reaction video) with one finger, showed me how the song would sound without the complexity of all the instruments. It was like the Charlie Brown's Schroeder scene where he gets fed up with Lucy and plays Jingle Bells with one finger, not quite that.
