I've owned two Klaris ice makers for over six months now and I can highly recommend them. Over the past several years, I have tried every popular ice mold that uses directional freezing. Since I bought the Klaris makers, I haven't used any of the molds. There's no guess work involved and I get excellent results every time. Recently, I purchased the Collins cube tray so additional shapes are already available! With two makers, I can produce 16 cubes a day which is more that I was producing with molds and no lost freezer space.

I discovered a while ago that my supermarket sells both chunks and *blocks* of clear ice. I think a lot of bars in the neighbourhood buy it. It costs me about $2 per kilo. I used to jump through hoops making ice. Now I never make ice. Obviously not going to work out for everyone, but I wouldn't have even looked except I saw someone else mention in on the internet. Worth taking a look.

I still use the directional freezing for my home bar use. I actually put in ice molds in the cooler with a metal tray inside so it stays elevated. The molds helps with not having to cut it to size. I use the rest of the clear ice as scraps for when I shake or stir my cocktails. I also let the water sit in the cooler for at least a day with the molds and tray because I see the air bubbles collect on the sides of the cooler, ice molds, and the tray. I just give it a quick stir to move the air bubbles to the top and it will all pop before I place it in the freezer. I know it might sound like a lot of work, but I've gotten it down to a science so when I am running low on ice, I start the next batch.

that's a good vfm i'm making just big ice cubes and collins when the heat kicks so my customers drinks could stay undiluted longer and i'm also buying clear ice. For this price it's a great thing to have in a bar. Clear ice + ice stamp - 😯 wow effect is guaranteed

I have a method that’s a combo of the two described here. I bought 2 silicone ice cube trays that fit perfectly on the top of an open Coleman cooler. The lip of the trays lay on the edge of the cooler and the actual ice cube molds are suspended in the water. If u cut a small hole in the bottom of each cube mold, it allows the air bubbles to get pushed out. You end up with twelve 2” perfectly clear cubes in about 30 hours. Costs about $30 total.

I also done that a lot. Actually still do tbh, and still use my cooler for bigger blocks. That said, since I moved in Europe, my freezer is so much smaller than before, I really like the fact I don’t have to make my ice in there anymore.

What about much electricity it uses and what kind of technology it uses to freeze the water. Trying to determine if it’s an expensive unit to run and if the are moving parts that will eventually break.

The cheapest way to make ice this way is using a Stanley (or like a be) glass. Fill it with water and leave it in the freezer for at least 12 hours. it will not come out as perfect in its format but it will come out transparent

As nice it is for you to get that for free, 500+$ items and doing videos with it, well IMHO...this is the influencer kind of stuff I am not the most fond of. What's next, doing espresso martinis using a gifted 2500$ espresso machine? Home mixology should be affordable.

If this was an introductory cocktail channel i 100% agree with this sentiment, but this truly is an intermediate + channel and I would bet most people who watch this channel come here to learn to be hands on to improve their craft. He has provided multiple videos to elevate your cocktails without spending money. The cocktail smoker he was provided and the iceball maker are just tools to elevate your cocktails, and has always given alternative methods that are cheap and that a part learning the trade. I don’t want to speak for him but I’d bet he would say learn and build the skills before you buy convenience. But I guess it is good for him to know we the consumer do not want to see his channel turn into a non learning platform.

A 60$ insulated mold will make 6 2x2 cubes, I have 4 so 24 cubes a day. This would be a lot cooler 😛 if it could make spears or at least 8-10 cudes, 4 cudes thats like way too few
