Charles Talarico So, I know why the democrat city logic makes sense to you. Dems run the cities, so seems like they are responsible. But cities,both democrat and Republican, have long had limited control over their police owing to national policy. The “tough on crime” movements started by Raegan and Nixon shifted the Overton window to the point that sweeping national policies were passed (by both R and D presidents). These policies include funding, types of training, types of equipment, and sentencing practices. So while the cities have local governments, those governments have very little capacity to actually influence their police in the way you are referencing. Also, the protests have been nationwide, with large numbers in cities of all parties. The targeted federal response has been in democrat cities though, as apparent political retaliation.
