In tonight’s bonus Ramble, I’m diving down the knit beret rabbit hole thanks to this little wool blend beret I picked up at the Halloween costume shop (I’m going to be a French mime for Halloween). Join me for a fun dive into eight beret patterns I’m loving right now, as well as the story behind this seemingly underpriced black beret. 01:22 Some context. 08:27 The Patterns My Ravlery "Beret" Favorites Bundle: www.ravelry.com/bundles/berets-254

Tip for when your knitting a beret . When you need to block it use a plate to dry it on ! My grandma taught me to do it. It makes blocking so much easier.

I am blocking a hat that way right now! I don’t think it's technically a beret, as it's a little deeper so I have a canister of wipes holding up the center. See Easwas by Kate Davies Designs.

Thanks so much! I knit a bunch of berets last winter and it's interesting to see how people wear them and could actually create a photo essay of its own. Sometimes you just want to reach through and adjust one that could have been worn less nerdy, but oh the fun of wearing them. Love your pattern selections. Personally, I think it's the best hat style ever.

Love your roundup as always, thanks, Taylor! I’ve made the ultra adorable and tres chic Salut Cheri twice, both using a light fingering weight (Lamana Milano cashmere). Held single on first one, smaller needles and cast on more stitches (3mm, 112 stitches), held double on second for a denser gauge (4mm). Both turned out super cute and were fast: done in just 6 evenings (I’m a slow knitter). Can totally recommend for that cute French look. Love your French vibe today!

I have to say, as a French and a Parisian, I don't understand the hype about berets. In my 29 years of life I have seen maybe 3 berets worn outside. And "Cepes" is said "Cep-, same sound as "said". It's a type of mushroom :) It was an interesting video ! I don't think I will ever make one for myself (maybe one for a friend of mine), but it made me want to knit. I've been crocheting a lit.
@WOOLNEEDLESHANDS

I think that the beret will always carry with it a very French vibe given its origin and iconic representation (which is evident in the names of most of these beret patterns--I see that the cèpes mushroom is grown along the French countryside--its inescapable), however I wouldn't expect to see them on every head in Paris. 😅 I'm glad you found this interesting though and are inspired to knit! I will say though, there are some BEAUTIFUL crochet berets available. 😍
