As a french who have lived some time in Bulgaria, then Romania (and now going back to Bulgaria soon for half a year), and who has talked and met with lot of Balkans people, I can say without any hesitation that they are the best people to hang out with! They are extremely chill and kind, and they sure have a great sense of partying and having fun, it's always great vibe with them. As someone said in the video, they tend to be very humble even though lot of them are very hardworking, and could deserve more praise. And even though lot of them move abroad, they rarely brag about their home country, I have found that bulgarians rarely even talk about it. However, the moment you show them that you are interested in their country, suddenly they'll teach you so many amazing stuff. You can see how a Balkan person is really appreciative of someone being interested in their country! Overall, Balkans people really deserve more love and more recognition. Another thing is that they have a great sense of humor, they are absolute masters of sarcasm, and they sure know how to make and take a joke! Really great vibes! And it might not seem so at first, because on the outside, at first contact, it's true they tend to look a bit cold and distant, but the moment you show a minimum of kindness and respect, and they suddenly turn into the warmest and most open people you'll ever find! Although, the first impression part can vary depending on countries, for example I have found that Romanians usually look warm and open even from the outside, while Bulgarians give more reserved vibes at first impression. But really, friendship with Balkans people is very valuable and you'll never regret. I confirm what has been said about Balkans girls. While they are stunningly beautiful, they're not the kind of people you mess with. They know how to get shit done, and they'll destroy your sorry ass if you ever dare being cheap to them or taking them for a fool. However, they are sweet as sugar if you know the meaning of the word "respect". Ah, important thing, it's better not to get into political or geopolitical topics with a Balkans person until you know how they react to it. While most young generations are chill about it, some are still very sensitive, and with the clumsyness of a foreigner who knows nothing, you'll be just walking into landmined ground. And of course last thing: food and drinks. They're the best, that's all there is to it. Personnally, I think that Bulgaria has the best food, Serbia has the best Rakija, and Bosnia has the best Cevapi/Kebapche/Kebap, but I need to experience more of Greek food and Albanian food. Love on you, dear Balkans friends and all non-Balkans who are interested in them!

I feel russian people so close really, I have a russian friend , and I see a lot of russians in my city (Varna, Bulgaria), but there is olso something different from us. I think russians don't express emotions and feelings so much or so loud . Don't know. Stay safe ☘️🤗

@@magdalenahristova6698 благодаря! I agree actually:) however let me say just little remark please: as for the Russians they are so different from region to region. I don't feel too much emotional connection to moscovites or petersbourgians or any other people in a west and north. But I feel southern Russians very close. I think people in South and Far East of Russia both have pretty high temperament, openness and they often prefer short distance communication even with unknown persons - exactly same as I've seen in Slavic part of Balcans:) so being native Vladivostokian I feel much more connection to the Balkan people than to Nordic type of Russian people. But in general inspite of temperamental difference manly we have similar way to think and to react. I don't insist of course, but just share my subjective experience:)

I am Bulgarian and I studied in the UK. I was a guest at another Bulgarian from my Uni. On his floor there were one Italian Man, One Greek woman and the rest around 8 people were Chinese. The kitchen was full of Chinese spices, rice cookers and chicken feet (no problem it was just a different culture) Me and my friend made a moussaka from scratch and just as we were about to eat it the Italian guy had some puppy eyes and we invited him to join us. And in typical Balkan and South European fashion we sat at the table for several hours. Even though Bulgaria and Italy have distinctive cultures we have a LOT of similarities in what we value in life. The Italian guy was not just missing home cooked European food. He was missing the whole ritual from preparation, to eating to enjoying the company. 🙂

So, let's see some stereotypes: 1. 100% true. Every single time Balkan families gather, it becomes soooo loud. Also, food. You can't have a social gathering or just a party if there isn't food. Why? Because Balkan food is amazing! 2.Rakija is awesome. Of course, you must have some kind of salad to accompany it. It's like zakuski and vodka - they go together. 3. It is kinda true. There is a lot of bad blood between Balkan countries. You can't just erase that. We are striving to have a good relationship with each other, but sometimes things can get out of hand. Personally, I am never going to hate someone, who is from, for example, Serbia, just because he is a Serb. 4. Um....no. We are not rude. We are just very straight with people. Painfully straight, sometimes. 5. Sadly, this is kinda true. If you are not wearing some kind of brand, you lose your status or something like that. Personally, I never cared about brands as long as I feel comfortable in those clothes. 6. Balkan women are fearsome. They are not like the western women. Balkan women are strong, passionate and can get very scary if you upset them. The one stereotype I'm so tired of hearing is : "Oh, you speak Russian". No, you idiot, I speak Bulgarian! P.S Dimitra is the type of girl I would definitely date. A true slav girl!
@AeneasGemini
@AeneasGemini 3 жыл бұрын
there's no such thing as being 'painfully straight' with people, it's only Western countries who like to lie and obscure their true feelings. Greetings from a Russian cousin, historically not always the best of cousins, but best wishes all the same. 1st absolutely true. 2. I don't drink at all but yeah Rakia is universal cure for everything from sickenss, wounds to drinking and cleaning haha 3. I have a lot of friends and I know people from other Balkan countries (except Bulgaria) and thing is we don't like nationalists be it from this or that side, I live in Sanjak in Serbia and unfortunently 85% of population of Serbia is nationalistic while we do have some here In Sanjak but it's so little it barely even counts, whilst this 15% they are fun people that you can chill,relax and generally good people these 15% I have got a lot of good friends I still talk to. So that is the case. 4.Well I would say its more direct then rude. I personally don't do much of beating around bush . 5. Yes it's true but it's personal choice. I personally think Adidas and Nike have the best quality when it comes to quality of shoes. Puma is good also but it's dependant on model. For cars really the best cars in everything like performance and such German cars are unbeatable. 6. Yea they can be but most important is balance. If you give power without balance then it becomes bad. Stereotype : One good is when I am speaking people tell me are you from Montenegro, or Bosnia and some even say Macedonia which is odd cause our speaking doesn't sound similar at all. Bad stereotype: Are you Serb? No. I am Bosniak. What is that? It's same as Bosnians but albeit in different country , but Bosnians are also Bosniaks . So yeah.

During the debate we all tried to be understanding about both sides of the story and in the end we hugged and had an amazing time together in the next days. It made me realize how sad is it that we allow politics to make us forget about our human side. We have so much potential to connect, love and value each other. We're more than politics, we're more than that. I'm sure better times are coming. There is no Balkan languages. Balkan is the Turkish name for Stara Planina = Old Mountain in Bulgaria. The geopolitical term "Balkan Peninsula" is an invention of the German geographer Johan Zeune from the 19th century. We are not Balkanian. The exact name is Southeast Europe. Yugo = South .Yugoslavia = Southslavia. We are surrounded by the Dinaric Alps or Dinarides. We are not the Balkans - we are Dinarics. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dinaric_race Peninsula is a geographical term, which means the continental surface, which is surrounded on three sides by water. The so-called Balkan Peninsula cannot start from the Croatian-Slovenian border, but from the Gulf of Trieste, which is part of Italy - so Italians from Trieste are also "Balkanians" and Italian languange is " Balkan languange" hr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Balkanski_poluotok_(kontroverze)#/media/Datoteka:Balkan6.png

Balkan is the Turkish name for Stara Planina = Old Mountain in Bulgaria. The geopolitical term "Balkan Peninsula" is an invention of the German geographer Johan Zeune from the 19th century. We are not Balkanian. The exact name is Southeast Europe. For example Yugo = South .Yugoslavia = Southslavia. We south slavs are surrounded by the Dinaric Alps or Dinarides.

Of course there are similarities between the Balkans but I would say Greeks and Albanians are somewhat different, because all the others are of Slavic origin except of them. The Slavic mentality is present throughout Balkans except Greece and Albania. Greeks and Albanians have their own culture, traditions, mentality which is completely opposite to the Slavic mentality sometimes.
@Aleks_Ovski416

I can slightly agree that they are different, but I have to ask, what is "Slavic mentality?" and which culture, traditions and mentality are opposite and how so?
@Filonikis
@Filonikis 3 жыл бұрын
@@Aleks_Ovski416 First of all, in linguistics terms, all the Slavic languages are similar to each other while Greek and Albanian are completely different languages. That is because all the Slavic languages derive from the Protoslavic language. Secondly, there are many Slavic festivities not found in Greece or Albania. Third, the way of thinking is different sometimes. Trust me, I've been next to Slavs most of my life and I noticed that we think way differently sometimes. I'll just give you a simple example. I found out that , for some reason, people in Slavic countries tend to marry very young (for example you can see girls 19-20 years old carrying babies). On the other side, this is not usual in Greece at all. People usually marry after 30 there.

The cultures seem sooo different, what do you think about it? Thanks in advance
@Filonikis
@Filonikis 3 жыл бұрын
@@valouvav2454 That's a very interesting question. I'm curious on what you mean as Balkan man. Do you mean Serb, Croatian or Greek? Because we live in the same Balkan peninsula but, as I said before, there are some differences between them. Greeks are not Slavs like most of the countries in the Balkan area. I can tell you for sure about Greeks, that it is possible for a western European woman to have a relationship with a Greek man. Most of the women in Greece can drive, can have their own jobs, friends or activities without any problem.
