Alistair Begg explains how God’s purpose to redeem a people for Himself and establish an everlasting kingdom would ultimately be fulfilled through David’s descendant, Jesus, and the missionary work of His church. Like David, we can hold tight to God’s promises even when they don’t seem to align with our experiences.

Jews didn't leave at the intermission. The promise they're waiting on is that the Messiah will rule and reign from Jerusalem. That's the millennial reign! In the meantime, according to Romans 11:25, it's for the sake of the Gentiles that they cannot see. It's God's doing! "For I, brethren, would not have you be ignorant of this mystery, lest ye should be wise in your own conceits: that blindness in part has happened to Israel until the fullness of the Gentiles be come in." The new heaven and new earth don't happen until after that.
