My Dad moved our family to the country when I was 7 and I learned to love it. I spent my summers Hiking threw the woods and finding stuff under rocks while my siblings found every reason to hate it. They would start their bickering and fighting and I would just disappear into the woods or, to the middle of the hay ring to pet the horses while they munched away.

I grew up on a farm, getting up early to milk cows, clean the pig pen, round up the chickens, pluck veggies from the garden, and do it all over again 7 days a week. Always took time out for Sunday church, then back to farm! I still garden to this day, but can't have any farm animals where we live. Great fun!

So many people get into homesteading, not realizing how hard it truly is, and how much work is involved. I wish they had these farmstays available everywhere, for various climates, because each climate has its own risks and rewards, but so people can do the work while there...to understand what's really involved. This looks more like a vacation.

That is beautiful 👍🏾 the best part is living it and not being a passive observer as you mention. Those kids will remember that experience forever. I grew up in a rural/small town in South America and now living in USA that’s all I crave is the natural life, that I’m really trying to re-create it on my small plot of land in the city. Hopefully blessings of good health I will be able to live on a farm not too far from the city but more in nature.

Now I have plans to set up a retreat and trips to visit other poly culture farms has been inspiration, plus the PDC I just completed. Highly recommend farm stays and tours. It could make that massive difference and help to discover the purpose within.

Looks like a great time. I don't know if there are any of these here in the states. I did grow up in NY's dairy land and between my Dad and 2 of my Uncles we had just under 3,000 acres and many cows. We also raised pigs and all kinds of fowl. We made maple syrup and one Uncle had bees so he had honey. We also did a lot of hunting so most of the time we were Self Sufficient except for paper and soap products. So I do know what farm life is like. By the way our veg garden was on the ground (not raised beds) and covered 2 acres when I lived with my folks. I only have 3 1/2 acres now so the garden is much smaller. Times have really changed. Now I work in a factory where I make Corelle dishes.

i hated my school with a vengeance and spent 4 years determined not to learn whilst being caned and beaten for my efforts, however, it was an Agricultiral school with a large farm including 120 head of dairy, i spent my holidays and weekends there working for free doing the dairy twice a day and all of the other farm duties, i did that for fun, just like you Mark, from the age of 12 to 16, crazy but i loved it

We have something similar in the USA. It's called (I have no idea why) a "Dude ranch." I've never been to one of those, but to get the dude ranch experience I will sometimes go to visit some of my farmer friends and volunteer to help with their chores. I grew up on a dairy farm and do miss the simpler days of farm life.
