Have you tried stuffed cabbage leaves? I see the recipes are common to many cuisines. In Russia, we stuff with ground meat, chopped onion, maybe some grated carrots, and a bit of rice. You put stuffing into leaves, like envelopes (collard leaves were great, too, instead of cabbage), might brown them on both sides, put in a crockpot, and fill almost to the top of the cabbage rolls with mixture of mayo/tomato sauce or paste/water/spices. We used to serve them with mashed potatoes. I grow cabbages mostly as flowers, just to look at them, so beautiful. Then I let some go to seed, raise generations of cabbage worms to feed generations of birds, then wrens hang on the stalks, and eat the seeds, then they plant cabbages, and the circle of life goes on:) Great harvest, congratulations!

Mmmm! Yum! One thing I like doing with the outside cabbage leaves that usually destined for compost…they are used to line the bottom of roasters. Prevents burning, adds flavor. Good stuff!

Thank you, I share your enthusiasm for your cabbage harvest! How exciting!! We canned sauerkraut with several of ours this summer. I'm going to try some new varieties next summer. We ended up starting our cabbage from seed sown directly in the garden. It took a while - all summer in fact - and there was a fair amount of bug damage but we still had a good harvest. We will definitely try protecting the cabbage early on next summer with insect netting. Thanks for all you shared!

I love cabbage also! These look amazing. I’m watching this Dec 7th so I’m assuming this is the harvest date, right? You mentioned starting indoors under lights and planting outside four weeks later. What is the start date?

I start the seeds inside mid Aug under grow light in 4 inch pots. Transplant outside mid Sept after you acclimate them . Just harvest yesterday. They are also ready around Nov 1 to harvest ..

Mark how long you been gardening in that area? At what point is there enough NPK to say I don't need no more I just started this land I bought 2 years ago every year I had put leaves over my garden first year I tilled it in in the fall this year I just put on top and have the chickens over wintering the garden bed area. I been hearing good to put manure over the leafs I guess mostly cause the decomposing browns to greens! I try to practice organic it's hard last year my garden was feed only organic fertilizer but that gets very expensive. Going to add some a nockuladed charcoal this year. My nitrogen is low I am assuming from the leafs I put in from last year. I can see in time my soul will come enriched with all the matter that's needed but assume it takes years to accomplish. I know might be able to speed it up probably makei g compost but my garden is pretty big and no tractor to help with that matter plus I work 50+ hours a week. Trying to get that tractor!!

Hello, Thanks for asking. It should only take one year or much less to have a good heathy soil to feed your plants. Answer to your first question. How did your leaves look like changing to leaf mold after the first year.? You need to do a cover crop also each year, Please. No need to buy organic fertilize. Make compost tea to increase your microbes. That is what soil needs to give your plants all the available nutrient's it needs. What do you need a tractor for?

@@iamorganicgardening Here in Europe composting is king. I like permaculture approach , some people compost and do like a no dig bed. I will watch your approach , thank you. I always think the way food appears from the soil is such a miracle and awesome.

@@MimiYouyu Thanks for sharing how you garden. I grow a cover crop to feed the same microbes from it plant roots.as compost. But much less work and it builds soil aggerates while compost does not.

@@MimiYouyu Reduce the amount of seed you use. And cut down the over crop to soil level 30 days prior to planting seeds or transplants in the soil . This way the roots will be softer of the cover crops and dyeing off/back
