Having worked as a correctional officer it still surprised me seeing how creative inmates get with their commissary. I've seen them make pizza, "wings", candy and cheese cakes.

N yes nutriloaf or tofu n beans n apple sauce will be ur only option if u tell them anything. N they don't care if they treat you like animals in county. I learned from prisoners just never been

My cousin was in prison for a bit in Arizona and worked the kitchen. The box of meat they had to serve literally said NOT FOR HUMAN CONSUMPTION, but still had to cook "it".

My mom’s meatloaf sounds exactly like the nutriloaf. It was just made out of every leftover in the fridge. I never understood why people ate meatloaf until it was made properly. Now I love it.

They actually served the "loaf" without silverware because it was given to inmates in confinement for hurting other inmates or harming themselves so they didn't give them silverware, clothes, or anything they can use to hurt themselves or others during their time in confinement.

Maybe..though they usually don't (rapists and childmolesters are famously some of the best behaved inmates, i assume because they need the guards protection) but as long as we keep that "punishment" as an option, thousands who do not deserve it will get it too...is that worth it? Is that "correctional?"

@@saraa.4295 actually from my experience in corrections the ones who are the nicest more behaved are the murders... and the rapest have been causing lots of issues and fights at least at the prison I work at. But nutraloaf I can say I wish some would get but also I treat them with respect as long as they show respect and for the most part it's the same for them. Show them respect and they won't give you a hard time. There's a lot of them who just don't care though that assault staff and other individuals.

I dont think so. Prison is the punishment, and the jail time is based on how bad their crime was. Adding extra punishments in, beyond what has been accepted, is just mean... might as well give em the death sentence if you're gonna torture them.

funny part is for profit prisons have actually done more good for prisoners than state ran systems, this "Cruel food" was developed by the federal prison system not by the private system, but still prison isn't supposed to be a joy ride, it's punishment.

Am quite torn about the nutriloaf. On one hand, I understand and would want people to be treated like humans in prison. On the other hand, feeding nutriloaf to someone that murdered someone you love seems like the bare minimum punishment to dish out.

It’s called a disciplinary loaf. It’s given to inmates that constantly throw their food and trays at the COs. It’s one of the last steps in the disciplinary process for extreme problem children (people or keep fighting, assaulting COs, destroying property)And it’s not made from trash or scraps that’s ridiculous. It contains your daily nutritional value of food groups and calories and is made of mostly beans, rice, oatmeal, and vegetables.

I feel like the Nutraloaf was originally intended as a punishment and a deterrence. They probably assumed that the prisoners would behave better in order to avoid that punishment and the ones who didnt would still get all the nutritional benefits they required from a meal but without the "enjoyment" of an actual meal. It's pretty cruel.

I worked as a CO in an all male prison and I’ve them make food you wouldn’t believe. Taffy, suckers, fried rice, birthday cake, and other things. You have to do what you have to do in order to survive. Plus they make money off what they make.

I used to work in a prison and there were some inmates who liked the nutriloaf. But in all honesty that was only ever used as a punishment in solitary when the inmate would throw their tray out at staff.

i don't know what kinda sweet and sour pork he was making but we used summer sausages from our quarterly packages. heck alot memories came flooding back with this one. oh yeah that was a hotpot they were using in that gumbo recipe, great to have if wanna make your own food all the time.

Personally i'm the kinda person that hopes prisoners suffer in prison. Like not all of them, i get there are people wrongfully convicted or didn't do something awful, but people the SA, murder, hurt others or animals or children deserve the worst shit they can get and i hope they rot there (:
