I'm native American (Navajo) and I'm studying Asian foods, more specifically Chinese cuisines. I'm also learning mandarin as well as Thai because I'm with a Thai family that is teaching me so many things. Food is my inspiration, and we are opening a new restaurant soon. I have to speak at least 4 languages everyday. I love the Fung Bros. You are the best. Found you through the Higher Brothers and CDC. You're great.

If youre studying chinese cuisines then you've got A LOT TO LEARN. There is too many different types of food and ways of cooking, its crazy. Different regions, different taste and style.

Believe me, I knew the Thai foods are delicious with stronger impacting to taste, yet, the Cantonese foods are elegantly different, it smoother and deeper with gentle feelings in you mouth. In fact, at almost every well devwloped city of most of provinces in China, the Cantonese foods are more expensive and high-scaled. I am Shanghainese, in here, almost everyone of our REAL-Shanghainese have to admire that the Cantonese foods are better than others. I sincerely advice you try some Cantonese foods in the areas of Southen China. PEACE!

I definitely like these Fung Bros videos which came out more recently. I feel like it flows better, it's more relaxed, and I really appreciate the fact that David speaks Mandarin in the video. The Fung Bros have gotten better with time and experience and that's a difficult thing for a KZfaqr to keep steady, stay relevant, and never lose their touch after all these years. Keep it up!

I completely agree with representing all sides of the culture you have. I'm American, Puerto Rican, and Cambodian. I had a Vietnamese dude try to tell me that I'm just Puerto Rican, because that's what my father is. I told him to get on with that bull. I have pride in and represent all of it. Proud to be an American. Khmer pride. Boricua hasta la muerte.

Loved this video! You guys are always so descriptive and really informative. Also the editing and the way you interact is so entertaining. The message at the end was real talk. I've struggled at times about being mexican-american. Either not being mexican enough and being labled white-washed, or being too brown and "ethnic" to be american. Fuck what society says! Thank for the lovely message!

Me and my friend stumbled on this spot yesterday looking for shrimp, we didn't know the history at all. Yall video plays in the lobby. Everything we got was like a brand new experience. Just speaking on the cultural stuff yall were talking about at the end of your video, I'm not Chinese at all, just for me lately going around experiencing different things is inspiring and enriching. it's a trip how in all our different backgrounds and cultures we set up rules and barriers. I appreciate the extra history from this video and at the end of the day we all human beings running around in 2022 and we can take what we want, like you said. I love it.

shandong dish originated 2500 years ago called lucai and it has big influence basically, and royals love to eat that

Shandong cuisine is the most influential Northern cuisine and the head of the "eight main regional cuisines". The others big four Sichuan, Guangdong, Suzhou. The big eight includes Fujian, Zhejiang, Hunan, and Anhui. Basically, anything Northern is considered to be influenced by Shandong cuisine since it has existed forever, and the Qing dynasty is based in the North. In the US most Chinese food is Guangdong via Cantonese immigrants or Fujian and Sichuan via Taiwanese immigrants.

Hey, that plate is Hulu-shaped. Yep the name Hulu comes from the Chinese name for calabash. Hulu is a symbol of happiness and wealth in the Chinese culture 'cause apparently, it sounds like fú happiness and lù wealth.

You could get this kind of food about 15 years back near the top of the Summer Palace. It was expensive but having the many courses of food along with the actual scenery in which it was probably enjoyed really accentuates the purpose of the dishes.

Those date paste filled cookies interest me, I'm guessing they or the idea of them traveled the Silk Road and wound up the ancestor of the Arab Mamool a date filled cookie that is very beloved.

Cantonese language lesson of the day. "Jook sing" =ABC "Jook hup" =FOB No one knows where this originated from but I'll tell you the ancient Chinese American secret from the early 1900s. Jook = bamboo Sing = to go through completely Open on both ends Hup= closed So a bamboo open on both ends "rep both sides" hence jook sing. A bamboo that is closed on one end is only open to Chinese cultures hence jook hup. The more you know!

Bruh It aint even an upscale restaurant in China. Bistro Na is a chain and has many locations across China. guess they are positioned differently in the American market. I wouldn't necessarily call bistro Na royal cuisine cuz its quality control sucks at some locations. Bistro Na can be categorized as traditional Northern or Beijing cuisine at most, far from upscale Chinese food.

People with the “Na” family name in China usually are the Mandarin-speaking Hui Muslims (回民/回族) and are found in Beijing, Ningxia, and Gansu.
