Advantages I'm see so far is that keep such high posture makes it harder for an opponent on bottom to gain controlling grips. As a bjj professor I teach posture as the most important element of guard, so this tracks with that. The down side I'm seeing is that you are keeping your center of gravity high which makes it easier for certain sweeps to be applied. I noticed once you dropped your center briefly to gain balance before coming back up tall. I'm a huge fan of knee on belly so some of your concepts apply to the way I do that. The big difference I see in what you are doing is that you stand more in situations where I would normally drop my hips, but we both keep a strong posture. One of the other advantages I'm seeing is that with your mentality is that even when you are off balanced or swept you aren't accepting it, and have a constant fight to stay in a top position. This is a huge advantage and I have particular drills to teach this concept. With two equally matched fighters the one on top will almost aways win. As a smaller guy I have found over the years that rolling with someone near my level and with them being larger, I'm at a huge disadvantage on bottom. I try to stay on top a s much as possible and keep high knee on belly positions which tends to force them to reach up and expose their arms or opportunity for me to advance position. When I'm with guys closer to my weight class, I'm more likely to go more traditional and smash them in normal side controls, but larger opponents tend to reverse positions on me when I stay tight in the exact same positions that smaller guys wouldn't.

I myself started to pass through junior belts in kind of your style, but at senior belts I switch to pressure passes, but this is more of a psychological moment. It seems that with more weight pressure there is more control. Will work more on that stuff, thank you 😊.

@@coachkajan posture is the king with your style, but his lapel grip was super annoying because even when you stand all the way up it doesn't put much pressure on his hands. Strip the guard by the toes, rotate the foot inward because he can only go outwards.

I don't think Judo's departure from JJ and gracie's departure from judo are fair comparisons to what you're doing here. Those were situations with huge differences. Jigoro kano stripped out striking and weapons from JJ to create judo. The gracies took judo and heavily focused on newaza rather than tachiwaza to create bjj. What you're doing here (at least in the video) is just your own game of bjj with really good balance, flexibility and sweep defense which is really frustrating your guard playing opponents ... Having said all that, I agree with you that ruleset is everything. If you were to launch a new sport with a different rule set, then yes, you could legitimatelty call it something else, but until then all you have is your own funky game of bjj.

how to maintain your perfect posture, drive away your opponent's center of gravity, without the latter ever having ours. Putting pressure on your opponent does not necessarily mean chest to chest. What's more, by doing so, once the decisive position is in place, the opponent has a much more difficult time defending the finish. Excellent!

So idk if you can say it's a weird style. It was clearly deliberate to try and always stand up. I didn't see you going for any attacks and standing so stiff with no answer to anyone shooting in makes it very vulnerable. The good thing you did was have great control to avoid getting sucked into traditional guards etc. Also, great work applying pressure with your knees and body weight, that's the key part that was impressive and should be looked into more. Just keep listening to some feed back, I think you may be onto something.

This I how I’ve always naturally tried to pass guard because I have good balance and long limbs. Everyone always makes fun of me for it and a lot of the time it feels like I really don’t know what I’m doing so I just end up laying back on a leg and going for a leg lock.

I loved this video btw. You should show us some.bjj sparring of you vs ali and and jamie etc. These types of videos usually do very well. I loved it. You so totslly could have won. You literally were having too much fun negating his efforts though. And he is really good so that was impressive. Gi bjj id kinda lame but you made it fun. You have training under john Danaher so i knownyou could have mighty moused the whole tourney in a gi but you just love proving a point. Point taken your style is effective and strickland would approve lol

Do you talk on the mobile phone? The step over is to long. That is banna split, knee bar. If the bottom person has a lock down after half guard do not separate upper legs. This is what they want to apply a lock or rock. He wasn't really rocking "hollowing out back and rock for a sweep or a split (knee bar)." Use a short step or steps and free the knee on the leg that is in half guard. Great balance and uses of active posting. In the case is they secure the foot in the opposing knee krook. Use a the other leg as a block and pressure down. Please keep legs closer in this situation. RGHQ this is a advanced concept and I found this out only doing Newaza with the Gracies and also other black belts.

Okay no disrespect but you have mastered the theory of alignment. You just break their alignment and not allow them to break your by staying over them. Todays bjj is outplayed pull guard play guard passing and like you said 7:01 you would have knee cut because sport bjj psychologically sets people up to play into that style. The resurgence of self defense blended with sport bjj will emerge. But this is def Rob Berinacki and Ryan Hall vibes

It’s definitely interesting to watch, but it’s still definitely bjj. You’ve adapted the art to fit your natural attributes as long and lean. But it’s still bjj. I love the concept you you’ve developed. However,I don’t see this level of success with somebody who is equally as long or longer than you. They had a hard time elevating you because of your limbs, and your bad with your long arms to compensate. Shorter guys will have a hard time incorporating this style.

It seemed to me too that you were just kind of pressure passing and using pressure work, trying to keep good posture, but then you know the way they were using their guards and stuff. I’m trying to step over and do stuff I mean, I think if you did what you were doing and then plus you did, removing their grips and stuff I think it would’ve been way better. You would’ve had much more I mean doing the full splits that’s something I don’t do so.
